    Great video, The SXR 1500 is a great ski. I grew up racing in the hay day of jetski racing in the 90’s and bought an 2019 1500 last year as I’m getting back into the sport. When riding the ski it definitely does not feel as big when riding it, the power of the ski is incredible, For most riders it has to much power. Ski is really stable but definitely has a different riding style than the old 750’s and sxr 800’s.
    3 Simple modifications I’d suggest 1. Remove air box and install air filter. 2 scoopgrate & ride plate. 3 handle bars & grips( stock aren’t bad but not great either) I like that the 1500 can be a good race ski and the rev rider can enjoy it as well.
    1 thing I wish it had is 2 keys like the sit downs that allow you to change the Ski’s power. My 10 year old rides my ski and I get a little nervous that he has that much power at his finger tips.

    When I was just turning 14, I got to ride one of these. It was the first time I had ever ridden a jet ski. I learned how to stand up and actually ride one of those monsters! Still proud of myself to this day! 😁

      Jacob Superjet Jet SKI I hear ya, I didn’t really beat on other ppls stuff when I tried out their toys haha something always broke when I did that. Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when I was racing the Superjet’s a few of us that were out front would drop a leg on the fast turns coming out of a straight aways. I don’t see it really anymore and I don’t understand why not , you can come into a turn whit out barley lifting at all.

    These things scoot. I dumped mine going all out one time and got a concussion just from skipping across the water. Serious power, ended up selling to build a surf ski. They hold their value well, I didn’t lose any money after riding it for 2 years.

    My riding group has a good solid collection of skis, including a 1500 sxr, 1100 Judge ported sxr, not as expensively ported mod 1100 Bullett, two limited 1100 sxrs, and a new Kommander GP1 which hasn't seen the water yet. Trying to be as unbiased as possible. The stock 1500 speed wise is almost as good as a full mod race 1100 sxr. When we dragged race the Judge mod against a 1500 with a few light mods, they were dead even. 1500 sxrs stock do like 61-62. Mod 1100s 64-65. But for me, it's the handling.
    The Judge mod sxr has had its hull set up by one of the greatest behind the scenes names in the jet ski industry. That thing handles amazingly, so much better than any stock hull sxr I have been on. Like a Lotus Elise with 800 hp. It is a perfect ski, the only downside is you have to be in intense shape to take more than a few turns at race speeds around buoys.
    The 1500 sxr is great, but for me the downside is the hull. I haven't spent much time on the one in our group, but the time wasnt confidence inspiring. Where the 800 sxr hull is friendly, the 1500 can high side you and will buck weirdly when you aren't expecting it. I think you need to be careful to lean your weight into turns. For me the real benefit of this ski is offering an affordable 4 stroke engine package. Emissions regs are getting tighter and this is what our sport needs.
    This is all reason why we are interested to try the Kommander GP1. Kommander knows their stuff and has excellent knowledge and people. Dustin and Steve are excellent guys in our industry.
    For me, I am going to keep building my 09 Superjet with a Kawi 1100 and see what Yamaha brings out. Hopefully they still move forward with their 4 stroke SJ.
    Keep up the good work guys. Great content and I enjoy seeing the conversions.

      Frank Maurer I’m thinking that Yamahas tr1 would be a good fit for the new super jet when ever that comes out. Sounds like you have a good group with some really awesome standups 🤘👍

    • @Jacobskibros
      @Jacobskibros 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Hard to beat the size power and simplicity of the 1100. If I decide the krash 997 sucks, I'll probably 1100 swap my 2013 superjet. That is the ski I can really rip on! These kawis are kinda cool, but I'm a 08+ superjet guy! The reason I am not as good when I ride them is because I don't ride them very much.

    • @E30Andy
      @E30Andy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man did you ever ride that GP1? What did you think of it compared to the 1500s and 1100s?

    • @thevetteman3
      @thevetteman3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@E30Andy yep absolutely! And my brother and his gf have put a ton of hours on it during covid. I myself could ride it whenever I wanted, but I didn't much this summer. I have ridden it a few times and enough to speak on it.
      In a nut shell, the GP1 is so far removed from the handling and performance of ordinary skis, that its just in a completely different league. The sxr 1500 is good at going around buoys. But that hull is a compromised design based on all the factors that went into it. The GP1 is a no compromise race hull. Even Dustin Motzouris has told my brother (who owns the GP1) that he can't ride "normal" stand ups as often because the limits of other hulls are so much lower. He needs to stay on his GP in order to keep in touch with what the hull is capable of and continue that trust in it.
      Personally truth be told I have not pushed myself that hard in turns for the same reason. To run laps at a race pace is just exhausting. The g loads on your legs are insane. I am in not nearly good enough shape to ride it to its potential. Yet on the other hand, it's the ski my brothers gf likes to ride most, because it's stable, easy going when you're easy on the throttle, and has that 4 stroke efi ease of engine tuning. Yet what it's capable of on pump gas blows everything else away when you push it. The 1500 sxr hull feels funky sometimes, and downright sketchy too at moments. There is zero of that on the gp.
      Also of note, a buddy in our group got a new 2021 SJ. Stock I do not like it. Although when you get on it and ride it at 4/10s, it seems like a bigger and heavier 2008-2020. As soon as you start to push it, the hull isn't happy. It likes to flat turn more than the 08-20, and can't dig real tight and far over lean turns. Hull and pole mods will fix a lot of that, but at $10-15k, plus another 5k in mods, you'll still be left with a SJ. At that point if funds allow, just buy a GP1 with drastically more capability. At least for buoys and racing. And crucially, compared to my 09 SJ which is well set up but a stock engine, if given the choice 9/10 times I will always pick it to ride. I just love its pure handling.
      So for me personally I am so thankful to have all these skis available to ride. I still like my 09 SJ set up with handling mods and I'm continuing to build my kawi 1100 09 SJ as well. If I wanted anything more specific for buoys I'd figure out how to get a GP1 myself.
      Hope that helps.

      @E30Andy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thevetteman3 wow thanks so much for that in depth reply! I'm in the market for a nice buoy ski and just really trying to justify the cost difference between a GP1 and SXR. GP1 is $25k vs $10k for the sxr... Hard to think that there is 15k extra performance in that GP1 hull.
      I've only ridden an 1100 swapped sxr800, and a 1100 Kommander K1. Both were so different and tbh the K1 felt sketchier than the 800.
      Any tips maybe on how to try out a GP1 and SXR 1500? I'm up in WA but I feel like traveling down to Havasu is definitely on the table and maybe my best bet. Figure I could maybe try a proforce while I'm at it.
      My friends and I are slowly building up an awesome fleet of skis like you guys are! So fun to hop on all the different skis and bang some buoys. Cheers!

      @Jacobskibros 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 1200 superjet just never had the hot setup. You know that engine had the hp for 60+ mph but the pump/impeller set up wasn't there. It was a mess to work on and I never saw its full potential. The smaller skis with that much power are a more crazy ride. It's like comparing an ls1 swapped miata to a corvette in a way.

    • @jeffbryner5355
      @jeffbryner5355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jacobskibros yeah i get what mean. I put a pissed off 760 in a fx1 with the stock 122 pump. The motor was way to much for the pump. If i remeber the impellor was a skat 19/24. I would fry that impellor. Haha. I re worked the pump tunnel and put a 144 pump amd shoe and holy cow it came alive!! @@jeffbryner5355 Yeah I don't think the 1200 and the 144 pump is as bad as the 122 in the fx1. I think you can work with it. But let me ask you this since it seems like you would know. @jeffbryner5355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jacobskibros i think it will work fine. Mine was fine with a 61x in it but once u start modding it is when it gets bad. It felt like it spun the impellor way to fast. Like it could push enough water thru it. Once i switched the 144 all that went away. Even with a oem sn superjet impellor. Does a wave jammer have a 122 stock?
