    OMG, what a nightmare. When things go bad, THEY GO BAD. Sorry you guys had to endure that, but it's something you'll never forget. Welcome to the Philippines, . the people in the islands remind me of Ma and Pa Kettle, Ma wants it done right now, and Pa just thinks about it.

    That story was hilarious. It is almost like a Jerry Lewis Movie or Seinfeld Episode. I realize that it wasn't funny at the time, but such a fun story to tell friends now. I will definitely show this to my wife, so she doesn't decide to move too many things when we do our build. When they decided that there was a stow-away on the ferry, I would have offered to pay for him, in the hopes that they don't offload the ferry.

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol, it was a rough couple of days. The stowaway did not have a bar code to travel. It wasn't about skipping a fare. They were very strict about the pandemic. Thanks for watching.

    A sound testament to your will to forge ahead. I had a similar, yet not so frustrating, experience on Siquijor. I had booked a tuk tuk to tour us around the island. 8 am am sharp became 10 am....10 am became 12 noon and finally, he showed up at 2 pm...just as we were hopping into a different tuk tuk.
    His bewilderment was priceless. Too bad for him.

    Trust me, challenges abound here in the Philippines. You need patience, wisdom, adjustment time ect. Once you get boots on the ground or your ship has come to port,( Army& Navy puns, served in both branches honorably ) you will get the real reality and the true picture. Do not be misled. It is real in the field. Come and SEE for yourself. Inflation has hit here too. No free lunches. Trudat. Real talk&Nuff Said. All be blessed, safe, healthy, happy, aware, smart, prosperous and great!! ❤

    This is more excellent info, I am sure something similar, has and will happen to others. When you can't really 'sue' anyone for 'damages', it bounds to happen. Things can happen in life, but when people BS you time and time again, I don't know what to say.....but, also these two workers worked very hard for probably not much money. I guess it is more 'fun' in the Philippines :) If one does not have lots of patience and is 'strong willed', one should not 'move' there, just go for a vacation. You guys are lucky to have found each other, this is what makes you 'strong', the two of you working together, it seems you can do anything. The Yin and yang :)

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you really need to just go with it the best you can. Can't change things. Wilma and I definitely compliment each other. That's one thing we can count on. Thanks for watching.

    That was an absolutely great job explaining that fiasco! Maybe, because I love horror movies, I was enthralled with your story, and Greg you can explain things very well. God that was an awful experience to say the least, and poor Wilma, I felt like strangling those guys.
    A really good retelling. I uncomfortably felt like I was there with you guys. Good job! I'm glad nobody got hurt. Unlike the safety of a seat in front of a horror film, you guys were exposed to the real thing. Scared the shit out of me! Gary Lapointe

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, they were based in Manila. Only found one moving company that would take that trip. It was a backhaul, so that's why they did it. We had no choice but to use them.

    My girlfriend and I are moving from California to CDO Mindanao in the next 5 years or so. We’ve purchased land for a house as well as land for commercial purposes. I totally understand your frustration. You seem like a normally pretty calm person. Sometimes the customer service there is non-existent. My girlfriend who spent the first 14 years of her life living in the Philippines has less patience for the customer service than I do 😂. As I’m watching your video I’m laughing away as anything that could go wrong did go wrong and more. While I’m sure it wasn’t funny at the time, you can now sit back and shake your head when you think about it. Unbelievable situations one after the other yet they happened right in front of you. My girlfriend said that she would rather sell her old furniture and buy new than to make a move like you guys did 😂. Hopefully when we move it will just be stuff that we send LBC and whatever we can carry on the airplane. We know people that brought appliances and other large items via container ship, but I’m hoping not to do that.

    I remember when you told this story before but it does not get any better or easier with age. What a struggle.
    Did you have some one move you from the apartment to the house or was that all you two in the pickup?
    Selfish interest as I’ll live in an apartment for a year while our house is being built. Then have to move about 5 km only. Plays into my consideration get a furnished apartment or unfurnished and buy furniture before the house is completed. Unfurnished makes the best financial sense but might not be worth the hassle.
