Very comprehensive review, thank u.. Ive had my Pit Boss Platinum KC combo for 8 months now and I use it at least 2-3 days a week. This combo grill has met and surpassed my expectations. Versatility and quality are prevalent with every cook. I flipping love this grill and actually enjoy using it. From pancakes to brisket, this thing does it all. Just recently, I used the griddle side as a pizza oven, and it worked great with the crust I've been looking for. I was really interested in an outdoor pizza oven but couldnt justify the expense and space, but there is no need for one now, I am considering a youtube video, stay tuned.
First time watching Barbecue Lab and would like to say what a terrific review. Very detailed and helpful. Absolutely love how you mention the minor details about things you wouldn't think about. One of the best reviews I have seen on any product. This was a huge help. Thanks so much. You now have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work.
I bought it and love it so far its really heavy duty and made very well the combo is the nest feature about it I was able to get rid of my smoker my propane grill and my blackstone and combine everything down to just one which is awesome!
Hey man!! Love my new pit boss mc combo. I went off of your review!! Bought it tonight!!! Here’s the best part. Wal Mart had it as their display model... paid 475 with tax. Cover was pricy but worth the 60 bucks I paid. Great channel buddy. I’m subscribed and liked too!
Yes thinking of purchasing this. I like the griddle. I love cooking veggies and seafood on a griddle. With this unit, I can do it while cooking steaks or burgers over a wood pellet fire. Plus who doesn't like a smoker attached. Thanks for the great review.
Put mine together 5 months ago, just used it for the first time tonight. Everything went good except had a bit of a problem setting the temp. Gonna have to keep playing around with it til I get that mastered. I’m not sure what I was doing wrong but couldn’t get it to turn up through the different heat temps correctly. Finally pushed a button and was able to get it set but not sure which one I pushed. Pretty excited about this Pit Boss. We had a smaller one before for the last 6 years and I really liked it. Firebox got a hole in it and decided not to repair it, I’m all about fixing stuff instead of throwing it out. Learned tonight to keep ashes cleaned out more then I was. Hope this one lasts as good as the old one.
Had my Pit Boss Platinum for close to a year now. Expensive grill yes, but you can pay as much or more and get a lot less. Bought most all of the flavored pellet's with it. Grilled & smoked everything from Pork to steaks, fish, chicken, Veggies, and some foods I stole from the neighbors. Absolutely love thins grill. Love that I can smoke different flavors, love that the temps are easy to control, and love that this grill is soo versatile! Top notch grill that's WELL worth the money!
Wife & kids brought one home for my birthday. I've be solely running the Pit Barrel cooker, but admitted some times the effort to prepare the charcoal and get timely cooks done don't always align and my wife just wanted something easy to startup in addition to the griddle. Time will tell, but I can guarantee that the PBC will still be there to continue the more important cooks that have made many neighbors envious.
I have had many grills & smokers THIS is the best unit i have ever used It took some getting use to as i never used a pellet grill in the past It dose everything i need to do I have had flat top Grills Smokers & this unit replaced them all This unit is the only unit you will ever need to cook anything
The combination of pellet and propane WITH A GRIDDLE....had to go to 3 wal marts to find it in stock. It wasn’t a terrible build, but I’m an old man lol. Looking forward to firing it up tomorrow. Spent 200 bucks extra on a cover and griddle accessories. They had me in mind when they made this thing.
My amazing wife surprised me with this upgrade from pit boss 750 last night, I was so excited. After this review I'm so fired up to get home from work tonight and slap this thing together. Thank you for the review great channel keep up the great work guys!
I had some fajitas off the Platinum KC Combo this week. Man was it awesome. Frying the veggies and cooking the chicken at the same time with no cooking mess inside was great. Nice Video. Great review.
Jumped the gun and bought the last one at a Walmart that certainly was not close to my house, but was the only one available in the area, due to this video review! Cannot wait to start smoking/grilling/griddling all at the same time. Just performed my burn off and ready to start looking up recipes now! Thank you for this thorough review!
I have mine, I picked it up with a F-150 pickup, tail gate down. Take two strong people to load and unload. Was easy to assemble, about 2 hrs. Look for on line app, the book is hard to read, small print. Not all pieces are numbered, but not a problem. Smoking a brisket now.
No one does reviews better than you. Loved it. I was going to pick up the Pro Series 1150 this weekend but now I have to think that over a bit. Thanks as always!
I JUST bought this grill for my hubby as a way to get the deck I want. He LOVES it. I bought it in-store and only paid $447. I love clearance sales! I can't wait to use the griddle for fried rice and hibachi veggies/meats.
Think I’m gonna buy it. Been on the fence between griddle (which I think I would use the most especially during breakfast) and a pellet grill to learn how to smoke food. Problem solved it would seem!
Just got this for Father’s Day, and boy do I agree, have it delivered, as it was a pita getting this thing home, with that said, I love the combo grill and it made some killer burgers on the pellet grill
2 briskets, 1 corned beef smoked so far. AMAZING! A few rib-eye steaks reverse seared (the best ever) and tomorrow I will be smoking up some pork ribs. I love this so much! I have seasoned the griddle, but have still yet to use it. Can't wait!
I have one for about a year now, its a great product. I really enjoy the griddle. My only caution is this, if your cooking for large groups, you may want to consider separate units.
Thanks! We try to put as much detail as we can into our reviews. It’s core to us that people understand as much as possible before they spend their hard earned cash. It’s what drives us. Best wishes!
I just found this at my local Walmart for 240 after tax on clearance with the box being a little damaged. Figured I'd roll the dice on that price this video makes me feel better about the box damage with what happened to their grill in shipping. Looking foward to putting it together after work!
Great review! I am looking to replace my Traeger that I have had to order parts for twice with a KC Combo so I can also pack up my Blackstone for use in the RV.
I really like the look and versatility of this grill for the price. I bought a pit boss pro series with the pellet gas or charcoal feature that had dual grills like the kc combo but were larger like there single drum grill. It worked great at holding temperature from start to finish of grilling.
Excellent presentation. I currently have an Oklahoma Joe Longhorn, but I've been thinking about getting into the wood pellet game. I love having the option to use the gas grill. It's fast and convenient for a Wednesday night, but there is no replacement for the flavor that comes from burning wood. Which is why I was considering the KC Platinum. The griddle seals it. I'll be ordering my KC Platinum as soon as the wife says I can. Thanks for the video. It was very informative.
Thank you for this review. I just purchased this grill at the end of season clearance for $320 and can’t wait to set it up. I want to build an outdoor covered kitchen area around it. Any TH-cam suggested videos on that?
This video really helped in my decision. Bought the kc combo a few days ago n love it so far! It’s my first pellet grill and first smoker ever, so I’m still quite new to this. When ur done cooking w w pellet grill, do u just press the power off button and unplug it or does the flame in the fire pot need to be doused before unplugging?
Glad it was helpful Haamid. When powering down the KC Combo, you just press the power off button, and then the fan will keep running for around 8-10 minutes to consume the remainder of the pellets that have been added to the firepot. I don't unplug my pellet grills until the fan has stopped running as that means that the grill has completed the power down process. Happy smoking!
Thanks David, great review! We just purchased this grill at Walmart today and we are excited to see what it can do. It's been 15 years since we have purchased a new grill and we have never had a smoker. So looking forward to years of wonderful memories, blessings!
Just bought one yesterday. Haven’t used it yet. Definitely liked the “all-in-one” aspect. I wasn’t really thinking things through when I bought it as to how I was going to load and unload it. It was fully assembled. I wished I had brought my trailer! I devised a plan. I had one of the Walmart associates grab a pallet and a forklift. I slid the pallet (they were smaller pallets) in between the wheels and the used a couple ratchet straps (always have a bunch with me) to cinch the pallet solidly to the grill. I then had them put it in the back of my truck withe the forklift. I finished by securing it in the back of my truck with more ratchet straps. Luckily... I have a tractor with a pallet fork attachment so just went in reverse at home. I would HIGHLY suggest using a trailer if you can if it’s fully assembled and you have no way of mechanically lifting it. It’s HEAVY.
Just picked mine up. Very solid and a well made grill and yes very heavy you are going to need 3 men and a boy to put this thing in your vehicle. Great grill and a great review.
I have owned a KC Combo for over a year now. While the pellet stove and griddle each function OK, I can’t recommend it for the following reasons. 1. The integral metal lid on the griddle half does not keep stormwater out, it penetrates the lid and pools on the griddle surface causing rust if not caught and rectified quickly. 2. Even if you buy the fitted fabric cover, that is poor quality and degrades quickly in UV if the unit is kept outdoors. Additionally, the metal tabs that hold the lids open during use will cause the cover to rip at those points during storms, I’ve gone through two covers so far with each lasting less than six months before tearing so I’ve had to “nerdgineer” a fix by using padding and plastic sheeting under the fabric cover to limit ripping of the cover and keep rain out of the griddle. 3. The griddle is on the small size, probably only suitable for 1-person households. Issues 1 & 2 are clearly design flaws. I’m wishing I’d bought separate pellet grill and griddle units. I believe the increased initial cost would be offset by their longevity, usability, and convenience.
I bought Austin XL a couple years ago and have been happy with it once I learned how to cook on it and look forward to some needed modifications done to it, but the KC Combo is looking pretty good overall to the point I might purchase it instead of doing the mod to the XL.
Actually this came out after PB made a Double Chamber Half smoker / half LP propane ..they discontinued it before I could buy it but it was the rounder one with brown paint. I like this color and the "Square" footage
Great review. How does it work if you want to smoke at say 225F when the smoke settings are 180 to 200? My understanding is that the smoke setting is more than just temperature, but also adjusts fan settings and stuff for maximum smoke.
I’m seriously thinking of getting it myself I actually went to Walmart just to look at it like you said it is heavy duty so I’m thinking like you just ship it home forget about all that trying to get home and if all you gotta do is put some of it together it would be worth it to me
This thing looks like a beast but worth it. I wonder if anyone has tried putting it in a built in outdoor kitchen and avoid using the base. Also wonder if a natural gas conversion would work
I really want this combo but I can't find it in stock anywhere. Is Walmart still selling them exclusively? Their website always says it's out of stock. Any help in locating a unit would very helpful!! Great videos by the way - keep it up!!!
Love this smoker/griddle/grill so far! Couple of things I thought were interesting. Here In Alaska, they don't offer delivery to your driveway...my husband had to unpack it by pieces from the back of the truck haul the heavy parts in the lawn cart to the back deck to assemble! It's a beast! Also, price point, starts at $859.00, not $759 or whatever you mentioned, so we are definitely paying extra for shipping. Thanks again Walmart...🙄
My sister lives in Alaska, and she’s told me all about how shipping is a nightmare up there and prices are much higher than the lower 48. Glad they at least brought it to your drive. Thanks for watching Shelley!
Thank you for best details on this unit. I just bought this in Wal-Mart but I need the know how big is the cartoon (I hope is gonna fit to my SUV) Update: Finally I got my baby but can someone tell me how I should season the cast iron plate,I can't find in the instruction book. Thx
It's been so long since we got is off the pallet, I don't remember taking the dimensions on the package of this one. I hope it fits in the SUV for you though!
I believe that this one is the one we're going to go with, I've been reading a lot and watching videos on a few and specifically the KC Combo and the Pro Series 1100. I just wished they'd have included the mix box option so that the KC could also get smoke from the pellet side like the Pro Series has. Also, the extra side burner would have been a nice addition on the KC Combo. I'm not sure but I believe that you can put a taller piece of meat on the KC, at least on the pellet side, because of the difference in the top design, I need to look into that.
I think so too. These are the two I am comparing. The Pro Series 1100 has more cooking surface area but I feel that the grill area is too closed in to easily flip burgers or hot dogs or chicken pieces, especially the ones in the back. I like the open design of the KC combo's grill side better. I have had multiple grills with side burners but have never used them so that's not a real issue for me. The smoke pass through would be nice to have on the KC though. Still not convinced that the combo is the way to go. If one side fails, you have to replace both. Is it better to go with two seperate units and get a smoker and a grill?
@@tinarobertsstudios We ended up going with an Old Country Pecos offset smoker from Academy Sports. Yes it's more work and time involved than a pellet grill but so far it's been worth it. Plenty of offset smoker videos on TH-cam to learn from, I kinda hate to admit it but the reason we went with a wood fired offset smoker is because someone in a TH-cam comment said that pellet grills were for nerds 🤓! After I thought about it for a bit I agreed! 👍
Great review and thank you for showing me the grill! I just got done putting mine together and yes, my son and I picked it up ourselves and it was a beast to move...
This grill looks great. Question: Camp Chef sells an accessory Pizza Oven that sits over gas grill section. Will it fit on KC Combo? If it does, that would be awesome. Please advise.
Double the height of the smoker box and add atleast one if not two full depth split (two piece) cooking racks up top, WIFI PID Controller with 5 degree increments and an App that works is a must have and add a cast iron grate to the propane grill and I'm All In!!! I Would buy 2 tomorrow. Hopefully this gets forwarded to Pit Boss I would love to purchase ASAP
When it comes to choose between the two, I think it really just comes down to how you see yourself using it. Are you more likely to smoke food for an army (Lockhart) or would you like the versatility to make smashburgers, diner food, hibachi and more in addition to smoking for your family and friends? Either way, I think you're going to have a good time.
I'm very interested...curious how others have experienced it. I have a Traeger 22 junior---had it for a year. It smokes great, but tonight it took me 50 minutes to get chicken breasts up to 165 IT. I'm done not having a fast and hot option. I plan to sell my T and use some of the money to get this. I'm curious how others like theirs.
This smoker will heat up really fast. I actually used it on 275° for 3 1/2 hours. It will have you at 300 degrees or less in like less than 5 minutes. It also doesn't use a lot of pellets, I filled mine up and have used it 3 times for over 9 hours and it still looks full. What I'm saying is, this grill will do the maximum temperature you want in minutes. She's amazing and my favorite grill. I need to name her. Also on a funny note, my neighbor said he wants to marry my grill. You definitely won't need another grill after this one.
Just cooked some prime steaks I bought. My son said it was the best steak he ever ate, we live in Houston Tx. and have been to some of best steak houses in the world. The flame searing feature allows your grates to get in excess of 600f sear. It can easily reach a reasonable cooking temp in 5-10 minutes.
Now there is competition as the Cuisinart ($699) and I was impressed. I didn't even see the Pit Boss nearby. I'm off to the store again today to check it out
There's very little info on the Cuisinart Twin Oak and I'm especially curious on the controller (P&ID?) www.walmart.com/ip/Cuisinart-Twin-Oaks-Pellet-and-Gas-Grill/172146129
I have a question. I have this grill. Why would my smoker only smoke for 30 seconds then not smoke again for the remainder of my meal? (3 hours) Could this be because I had the temperature on 250°?

Congrats on the new smoker Dwayne! Here’s to many years of rolling smoke my friend.
I got mine on clearance for $340. I think they had it priced wrong but the clerk assured me that was the correct price.
Yes thinking of purchasing this. I like the griddle. I love cooking veggies and seafood on a griddle. With this unit, I can do it while cooking steaks or burgers over a wood pellet fire. Plus who doesn't like a smoker attached. Thanks for the great review.

I'm going to get one. I like the multifunctionality. I currently use a weber kettle and have pretty much mastered everything that can be done with it.

I just ordered it for 600 at Walmart how do you like it. I'm gonna have to show these indiana folks how to smoke a brisket
That's crazy. Just saw at Walmart for $750. Damn.
I got one for 450 on clearance as well
Actually this came out after PB made a Double Chamber Half smoker / half LP propane ..they discontinued it before I could buy it but it was the rounder one with brown paint. I like this color and the "Square" footage
Great review. How does it work if you want to smoke at say 225F when the smoke settings are 180 to 200? My understanding is that the smoke setting is more than just temperature, but also adjusts fan settings and stuff for maximum smoke.
Pick mine up today! First cook went amazing. Glad it does bbq and smoker
I love it best $800 bucks.only down side is smart app sucks ,better yet don't work .but other than that it's a beast
Just bought this bad boy today. And I love it. UPDATE: the APP is Smoke IT for bluetooth connect.
I bought one pre-assembled at my local Walmart. My flame broiler does not look properly assembled installed. Is there a video for that?
Awesome grill! Love mine
Great!
Stephan Morgan I'm going to get the KC combo smoker this will be my frist.
highly recommend this purchase
Is there an easy pellet clean-out? I wouldn’t want to leave the pellets in the hopper for long in Florida humidity.
Hi Nathan, yes, there's an easy pellet cleanout on the hopper. Something I missed in my review, so thanks for pointing it out!
Thank you for best details on this unit. I just bought this in Wal-Mart but I need the know how big is the cartoon (I hope is gonna fit to my SUV)
Update:
Finally I got my baby but can someone tell me how I should season the cast iron plate,I can't find in the instruction book. Thx
It's been so long since we got is off the pallet, I don't remember taking the dimensions on the package of this one. I hope it fits in the SUV for you though!
Bought, brought home, and built today! Time to cook!
Have fun Robert!
Hope you enjoy it!
Still working fine?
Your reviews are top notch
Fantastic presentation
Thanks Jay!
I’ve been looking at this KC combo and the Masterbuilt gravity fed. After watching you videos I have decided I just need both of them.
The struggle is real Jared. Can you have too many cookers? I say no.
Got one and absolutely luv it! Cover are just now available at Walmart!
How hot does the griddle gets??
@@jsmrgen the griddle gets very hot.
Thanks, your review helped my decision to purchase this unit.
I just purchased the pit boss platinum kc combo and can't wait to set up and use it
Congrats Brian!
This grill looks great. Question: Camp Chef sells an accessory Pizza Oven that sits over gas grill section. Will it fit on KC Combo? If it does, that would be awesome. Please advise.
Just got this at Walmart for 550 brand new with assembly. Can't wait to get cooking on it.
Tremendous review! I’m sold! Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words Bradley. I hope it's a great fit for you.
I agree with the 5 deg incriments lol
Just bought this unit and love it so far
Congrats Robert!
I am up in the air between this one and the Lockhart. I think they would both be great, but this one seems to be more versatile.
I’d like to buy this but can’t find them at any place. And can’t buy online
you should compare this to the camp chef woodwind models they have the same thing and have been doing it for over a year
Great review! thanks for the details David
Love the griddle option - SOLD!
Who else has one that wants to tell Aaron their experience with theirs?
Just got one of these my girl found one for FREE from an elder couple that were moving into a retirement home, I couldn’t believe it
Is there a pellet dump so you can unload unused pellets and replace them with a different wood..?
Now there is competition as the Cuisinart ($699) and I was impressed. I didn't even see the Pit Boss nearby. I'm off to the store again today to check it out
You'll have to report back and let us know what it was like.
There's very little info on the Cuisinart Twin Oak and I'm especially curious on the controller (P&ID?)
www.walmart.com/ip/Cuisinart-Twin-Oaks-Pellet-and-Gas-Grill/172146129
@@DennisInVenice I am in the same fence but the PID and smoke stack have me leaning towards Pitt Boss
I bought the Cuisinart. Really good. I've had it for a year now and the pellet side holds the temperature spot on. Quite a good bargain, also.
Definitely getting this machine!
Does this grill have a pellet dump in case you want to change flavors of pellets?
Very thorough. Thanks!
I have a question. I have this grill. Why would my smoker only smoke for 30 seconds then not smoke again for the remainder of my meal? (3 hours) Could this be because I had the temperature on 250°?
has there been a video about seasoning the kc combo?
