- Let's play Victoria 2 as Sweden with all available DLC (even the sprite packs!) We will form the nation of Scandinavia, and then teach as many Africans as we can how to read good. (Yes, it's a play on the "center for kids who can't read good" joke.)

It boasts having pops, but what it does have is a one-dimensional, basic, awful system for kindergartners. Which is also named pops.

The population mechanics is why Victoria 2 is one of my favorite games. Its great, i wish more games implemented such detail.
Quick Swedish pronunciation guide:
Å/å is pronounced like “ou” (in four) or “o” (in long)
Ä/ä is pronounced like “ai” (in hair) or “e” (in best)
Ö/ö is pronounced like “u” (in hurt) or “e” (in her)
J is pronounced like “y” (in yellow)
K is (generally) pronounced like English “k” (in kite) before a, o, u or å and as English “sh” (in shell) before e, i, y, ä or ö.
G is (generally) pronounced like English “g” (in great) before a, o, u or å and as English “y” (in yellow) before e, i, y, ä or ö.
“Götaland” is a word where “g” is pronounced like a “y”.
(approximate)
U and Y are somewhat harder, as they don't have direct English counterparts.
“u” is kind of a cross between “oo” (in boot) and “u” (in rude). Or as some kind of short version of “oo” (in boot).
“y” is like german ü (if that helps att all), an “ee” (in see) pronounced with rounded lips. Or as “i” (in bit) with rounded lips.
Also: In 95% of cases *all* letters in words are pronounced. Nordnorge is literally nord-nor-yeh

+XkmI You must remember that Æ-Ø and Å differs from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland etc. of how they are pronounced! Most of Scandinavians understand each other, but it's pronounced diffrent in every country and in some parts of the countries!

Yeah, well, true. The pronunciations are fairly close to each other though (at least in Swedish/Norwegian/Danish).
The pronunciation is probably best for standard Swedish (Heck, it's not even entirely true for my own dialect).
In any case, I did say that it was a Swedish pronunciation guide.

Chimney Sweepers and Sweden has a facinating history.
They are the only group allowed to use the large version of the Swedish Coat of Arms, the only other person who uses it is the King of Sweden.
This stems from the 1640's when Queen Kristina as a reward to the chimney sweepers halting a fire at the royal palace in Stockholm gave them the right to use it.

thus somehow preventing you taking it. you're better off liberating a country, which is significantly harder and more expensive, plus much more valuable if you're a great power. i expect him to surrender the cores on Finland, liberate it, and then form Scandinavia taking Finland with him, as i did.

I remember way back when, in the 90's, there was a little game called Lord of the Realm, to raise an army you not only had to make weapons but took your soldiers directly from the working population (which of course fed your army/city and created goods to make weapons/castles). It's cool to see that mechanic in this game. I think for Lords of the Realm was head of it's time in realistic nation mechanics like that.

1 uncivilized state is 5 and a full conquest is 10.
if yo excede the cap SP's like big bad' great britain will get a cb free of infamy to cut you down to size.
so you only want to conquer strategical states. also sometimes new states don't make things better. i've seen many times equador have the one of the top industrys on the world with 1 state and a half. xD

Arumba I really, REALLY need you to do a let's play on "Rule the Waves".
It's an "as-real-as-it-gets" real-time, mostly text based, naval strategy and it's awesome, but because it's virtually unknown there are very few gameplay footage out there (like two channels?) and even less by people who know what they're doing.
I think you can;
1- Get a lot of appreciation from your viewers for bringing an awesome game to their attention.
and 2- add a lot to the limited let's plays of the game out there by providing in-depth and knowledgeable commentary.
Please think about it.
FYI Västerås is pronounced pretty much the same way as Westeros (the continent from Game of Thrones).

Glad to see this on your channel again, finally something i have more experience with. You could maybe do a Prussia campaign, showcasing different tech groups with the eventual prussian tech group as well as the sphere of influences in the forming of NGF then Germany.

hey Arumba I don't know if you already know this, but the optimal percentage for clergymen is 4%, that 2% is related to the optimal % for research, however 4% is the optimal percentage to increase literacy, literacy in turn also increases research speed and makes industrialization easier.
And even though Sweden starts with the highest (I think) literacy in the game, it will start dropping if you don't increase your clergymen percentage to 4.

Edit: You actually want artisans to promote or demote to other pops since they're just (much) less efficient factories, so feel free to tax them as high as you can.

You need to play the Pop Demand Mod, it makes Vicky2 better in every single way and makes its a living, breathing, game. At least that was my experience. I can assume you're already far into this series but in the future it would definitely be cool to check out!

The only problem with Victoria 2 is that playing with HPM is almost a requirement. It just makes the game so much better.

FYI Cavalry-Dragoon is still highly effective in the battles. I use armies of 6 Infantry, 4 Dragoons, 1 Artillery, and 1 Engineer. They win most battles against any AI and can handle sieges pretty well.
they should apply vicII population mechanics to other paradox games, it would really aid making powers rise and fall in a sensible manner

just what i have been looking for.
I know nothing about this game, although I've read and studied Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. It seems like a really cool reference to the imperialism which was one of the main themes. :) I read the story as an existential journey I was really focused on the imagery and some of the odd allusions... I don't think I'd be able to write a good essay about Heart of Darkness, I came to the story from a French postmodernist philosopher who mentioned some of the themes in passing. My reading was probably too heavily influenced by stuff like The Lady of Shallot by Tennyson (absurdly) and Apocalypse Now (which was loosely based on Joseph Conrad's story). Anyway... I just had a nerd-fest with the whole idea of a river/journey allegory.
Joseph Conrad does use some really cool metaphors and imagery. There are also all these allusions to Greek mythology which are communicated through symbolism... he was a great author, using those allusions to comment on the morality concerning imperialism. I might need to re-read the story.LIke... black and white, beautiful.
Also don t notice if you said, but infamy increase justification time, which increase the chance of you getting caught while justificating a casus belly, and usually you will receive a higher amount of infamy, since you getting caught earlier in the process of justificating. So it s better to wait the infamy come closer to 0 before declaring the next war rather than justify with 10 infamy already, as well it s good to make the wars as quick as you can since infamy fall in slower speed in war times.
Arumba, Historical Project Mod makes this game better in all ways. Consider looking into it. I haven't played vanilla since.

What's cool is that the current king of Sweden at this time would have been Charles XIV John who served as a general under Napoleon Bonaparte and also married Napoleon's sister I think.

I've just started this LP, looking forward to where it goes. I have to say, I've always had a ton of trouble getting into Vicky... I think the combination of UI and the focus away from war convinced me it "wasn't for me", despite giving the game a couple tries (I purchased the expansion). I'm hoping I learn something during this LP that inspires me to try Vicky2 again.

Also the best army combination(at least for me)is 3 intantry,1 cannon,1cavalry(dragoons),1 engneers
+iravenBG you want practically half your army made of inf and artillery (artillery can engage from second line)
you then want 2 ancillary units such as hussars and engineers to provide flanking support in combat and to cap/seige provinces.
+iravenBG dragoons are actually the worst cav i think, hussars are the best.
why ? because dragoons have no reconnaissance value, and reconnaissance together with siege value is what makes sieges quicker
and sieges are far more important than battles i feel.

The soft limit is 25, the pesudo-hard limit is 999, but you can have more than 999 infamy

Hey Arumba. You should totally do a Vic2 playthrough with the PDM mod (Pop Demand Mod). It fixes a lot of the bugs and the economy. And it doesn't fell like another game.

ah good to know, a lot of people know that 2% clergy gives the most research bonus but not alot of people know that the literacy bonus is at 4 or well 4,5 as you said

I think you're right about POPs being part of Stellaris. In this week's Dev Diary, they were mentioned several times. You said it's way too early to build factories - wouldn't some basic factories (cement or steel for instance) help your industrial score and move you into 8th place quicker?
The thing I don't like about Vicky 2 is the fact that except for nations that literally can't invade Sokoto (landlocked nations, nations militarily incapable of getting to and/or beating Sokoto in a war, etc), there is literally no start in the game for which the optimal strategy doesn't involve invading Sokoto ASAP.

Sweden is a great starter nation! Tariffs should always be as low as possible, the upper class should never be taxed so they can invest in factories instead. Middle class is also good to have lower taxes so they can promote to upper class and become investors. Army composition should always be 50/50 regular inf/artillery - irregulars are useless and guards are too expensive. Some hussars can be attached too.
If you research high military tech you could easily stomp on Russia.
I played as Sweden my campaign was relatively successful I annexed most of Denmark , got Greenland and Iceland off them . I got Cyprus from the Ottomans but I failed to make Scandinavia as Austria had Scheiwsig and I was only a secondary power but I'm not an expert in the game
IIRC you don't have access to 100% of your spherelings' markets unless they are uncivilized.
