And now for something a little different, geeks! Today we'll be pimping out the Jakks pacific R2-D2 figure with a steampunk/ rustic inspired finish. Enjoy!
That trick you did at 17:00 proves how much of a genius you are. Chris you seriously need to get into the movie industry, you could make props professionally no problem.
I'd like to see another one of these but maybe a slightly battle damaged custom astromech that we haven't seen before like what one you'd get if they real things
When I first started watching I thought this was going to be too goofy to be cool, but it's amazing. And apart from the monocle, I can see a Star Wars story set 1,000+ years after the original trilogy where an R2-D2 like this would make sense. Great work, yet again!
Amazing transformation of such a beloved hero! Your work is outstanding. Not just from a surface level but the storytelling aspect of these kinds of projects is creative and thoughtful. Thanks for sharing your work. Great job mate!
While I am not a fan of the whole "steampunk" thing... I think this is awesome and very educational in many ways when it comes to how to apply various finishes.
Do a Custom Collectible on the Star-Lord Nerf Blasters from Guardians of the Galaxy! The sculpt is definetly there, but they don't look movie accurate at all.
As always outstanding work man. This has got to be by far my favourite custom collectibles you've done 👏👏👌👌👌. true inspiration man! as always keep it up!
I always thought that a Viking darth vader would be so cool, and wacky. Just imagine Vader with like a wooky fur cape, and an empire symbol shield. We all know you got your hands full Chris with some amazing stuff, but that would be so amazing to see in the future, especially from you.
Chris this was my one of if not my favorite custom collectible love the imagination, and this one was extra special because you went above and beyond with the creativity, steam punk R2 came out great, keep up the great work!
I love all of the toy and prop customizations you do! Keep them coming! I've actually learned a lot from watching you and tried out some of the techniques you use. Great stuff!
Hey Chris, next time the tape takes the paint off, embrace it and use it as part of your weathering rather than fixing or repainting. it's surprisingly effective and the washes take to the paint layer well.
Looks like you were using full on masking tape there. If you don't already know, they make blue painter's tape that masks off just as well, but is far less grippy on freshly painted surfaces. Perfect for modeling or customizing
every-damn-time everytime you amaze me more and more Chris. You deserve so much more attention then you are already getting. Please keep amazing us, keep us say "wow how did he come up with that?!" Keep "doing it best" cheers
the stuff you do is absolutely amazing! I've never done anything like this before but I really want to try it, thanks for inspiring me! keep up the great work
Even if you do plan on priming it, it's always best to rub the whole thing in some steel wool in order to give the paint something to grab to. Paint hates to stick to glossy plastic.
HOLY CRAP YOU ACTUALLY RESPONDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that I thought you were some pompous ass LOL But totally wicked AWESOME you replied!!!!!!!! Anyway that's about as "fan" boy I go since this is in comment second. Email different story hahahaha
The bandolier looks very Witcher inspired because in the games Geralt carries 3 potions across his chest. Also the sphere filled with dirt looks like a witcher bomb. I guess Roach will need a two seater saddle from now on.
some advice, a lower tack masking tape would have prevented the paint coming off (although it ended up looking quite good) and could have done with some tracks sculpting into the base, but again we could imagine the winds blowing, he's stood still and they've blown away, inspirational work as usual :) p.s. made me think a white medical version of k-2so would look cool as well as a c3p0 style gold one :)
hey Chris, i was playing Gears Of War 4 recently and just realized that you look exactly like the main character JD and i think you should do a cosplay of him! only if you want to but i think that would look awesome! have a good one mate. :)
Try frog tape when you want to paint a part of the item. From what I've heard, it won't leave a sticky residue and it comes off clean.
That trick you did at 17:00 proves how much of a genius you are. Chris you seriously need to get into the movie industry, you could make props professionally no problem.
what trick?
Golden Assassin i hate you
He needs a top hat
Chris you are just nuts. How are you not working in Hollywood?

I'd like to see another one of these but maybe a slightly battle damaged custom astromech that we haven't seen before like what one you'd get if they real things

Thanks Shannon...

Love your creativity man.
He's the best at what he does, and what he does is pretty.
hi Chris yet another amazing video and just love what you did with r2 😄😄😄
Thanks Phil.
The bandolier looks very Witcher inspired because in the games Geralt carries 3 potions across his chest. Also the sphere filled with dirt looks like a witcher bomb. I guess Roach will need a two seater saddle from now on.
Awesome work! I love steam punk. One idea though, since R2 had been driving, you may want to add some tracks in the sand.
the r2 d2 looks AWSOME
some advice, a lower tack masking tape would have prevented the paint coming off (although it ended up looking quite good) and could have done with some tracks sculpting into the base, but again we could imagine the winds blowing, he's stood still and they've blown away, inspirational work as usual :)

I love your work, keep it up
Thanks Andrew.....All the best.
If you can get your hands on some of the blue or green masking tape, go with that instead of the cream colored tape. You'll have a better time. :)
Awesome! An amazing job Chris!
