The reason that there seem to be forfeits in competitive Pokémon is because, In Pokémon competitive play, resistance is the average of an opponent's win rates. For example, if you've played against three opponents with 2-0, 1-1, and 1-1, your resistance would be 66.67% (1 + 0.5 + 0.5 / 3). Resistance affects standings, and if you have the same match points as another player, resistance is the tie breaker. The Pokémon system ranks you higher if you played against better opponents than that player. Some players decide to forfeit matches because their friends will make it to day 2 if their opponent have a higher resistance.

I think Wolfey and most people heavy in the Pokemon scene are weird dweebs who rub me the wrong way.
That being said, this game on a competitive reality level is utterly broken. We know and it’s freely and openly admitted that practically every top player or even serious competitive player at this point has a team of people and/or employees who do the utterly unnecessary grinding work for them. They catch the Pokemon, they breed the Pokemon, they put in the hours. It is practically impossible to get into high-level competitive Pokemon at even an entry level unless you either have a ton of money to outsource your own teambuilding, or no obligations in life other than grinding. For what? If being a serious competitor boils down to 1% talent and 99% resources put into grinding, that is not an accessible let alone viable e-sport, straight up.
Practically no other video game with an official competitive scene operates this way. Maybe you could say games like MMOs do, but the metas of those games aren’t remotely as ever-evolving and fluid, and thus don’t require the sort of grinding that Pokemon does.
To be clear, I am NOT advocating cheating in any way. But if official competition operated like, say, Smogon, wherein you don’t have to spend eternities on things that aren’t battling, it would be better for the competitive scene. There would be far more experimentation, far more interesting teams and exciting battles, far more people wanting to get involved. The sole and only things that would wind up mattering are skill, knowledge, and ingenuity, nothing else. Right now it’s just a tiny gaggle of teenagers with all the free time in the world, and 30-somethings hiring teams of 30-somethings to press buttons for them.
Official competitive Pokemon has been kind of a joke for a few years now, when it should be huge. Considering it’s the largest media franchise to ever exist, and a continuing global phenomenon with tens of millions of players, you’d think it would be. Nobody really wants to touch it though, because most of what makes a player competition-ready is completely, utterly, objectively pointless. It’d be like having to paint an entire house and then watch it dry for each chess piece on your side before entering a chess tournament. Why?

@@lucassykim I disagree. Training has always been a very important part in Pokemon choosing Pokemon you love and training them up increasing friendship through battles that's a core part of Pokemon, this is a jrpg after all. If you want no love Pokemon then just play showdown. Ask yourself do you want to play competitive for the aspect of being the best with your favorite Pokemon, or do you just want a battle sim. If Pokemon got rid of iv's and ev's I think it would put the focus back on why people want to fight others. To show off Pokemon and their battle prowess, it would be a lot closer to the anime that way and I think a lot of people would enjoy that much more then Pokemon stadium 3.

      @Sickness4daThickness หลายเดือนก่อน

Someone else is just gonna hack and the VGC needs to get on their shit and maybe idk look at the save file and pokemon they're going to be using before the tournament. Even running it through a pc program to confirm with a card reader that cheats have never been used or something like that, idk, but its players exploiting the loose rules. Morals are based person to person so in situations like this its so easy for one person to come in and ruin the fun for a bunch of people who actually care about this.

Nintendo actively has terrible online communities and does nothing about it while spoon-feeding dogshit, its not a surprise to me at all. They won't push Smash Bros, they certainly seem to have a death grip over the pokemon community (atleast the pokemon company does), like what are they doing? this is why people dont support shit they do anymore. Sword and Shield was dogshit, Scarlet and Violet was subpar and not optimized for the console whatsoever, and they can't even add all the pokemon on launch anymore. They hire a team who have never made a game before to remake Gen 4, the most highly requested remakes, and they look terrible and aren't even remakes of Platinum.

If you look back from the nugget bridge days, it's crazy how this narrative of Wolfe being the "golden boy" of pokemon has been crafted for so long, and it eventually succeeded given the worlds "win" and growth of his youtube channel. I wonder if there's way more going on beyond "me and my buds using save edited mons for the 140th time", although it's still strange because Wolfe is the only one with something to gain from this, not Markus, not his fanboy minions, not anyone else...

so let me get this straight, i watch wolfey but im not a "fan" i could care less if he did cheat or not because i dont subscribe, or follow him on any platform nor do i care for competitive pokemon, but this caught my attention because at first i will admit i thought it would be some cringe video where they hated on a youtuber for views, but i listened and i can see where you come from but i do got some genuine questions. I am a bit of a novice when it comes to competetive pokemon and i don't know too much about Evs or wtv. But what im hearing is that the main problem is not necessarily that ONLY wolfey is a cheat and is doing these things, the whole "competitive community" as a whole is corrupt because other players do this too and the company/ tournament allows for these things to happen because things aren't being enforced? I felt like the Ev thing i did not quite understand fully, what im understanding is that you are saying it is impossible to get perfect evs for pokemon? or atleast the consistency that he has? AGAIN im a noob and have not played or dabbled much in pokemon at all, ive never owned a game and have only really watched here and there, but that to me seemed like it would just take alot of grinding to get that to happen? unless im missing something, what really sold me was the time-stalling thing. I did not know it was against the rules, it almost made me want to discredit this whole video as just a stunt to get views till you actually showed and pointed out that the rules clearly state that it is considered bad sportsmanship and that players would receive a punishment for doing so. I have not watched the battle but seeing how his fans pointed it out and tried claiming it was a legit strategy, i saw that you was cooking a bit. This is the first video that i have watched from your channel but i saw a video from wolfey in my recommended from 3 years ago where he speaks out about a youtuber that is claiming he's hacking mons? im assuming he's talking about you. I did not really watch that video properly but he mentions something about his incineroar and how the pokemons are different or inconsistent? and the reason for that is because he had other people catch it for him like his subscribers and people he trusts so they are all different because they were caught and ev trained by other people or something like that. Idk at the end of the day that's crazy to hear but like ive said, i dont care enough abt competitive pokemon to do further research, just thought this was interesting and wanted to write a comment.

I can’t even play through the game without worrying about natures, IVs, and EVs. Whatever happened to playing with your favorites, and using moves just cause they sound badass? If you don't that is fine, but lemme tell ya, i see the reason why people don't grind and just create perfect mons. Provided you wanna actually compete, would you rather sink lotta hours finding perfect nature, iv's ev's (not to mention sometimes needed hidden abilities AND MOVESET in case of breeding which literally burns away your priceless time for potential shit, like be real, would you use +SpA -Atk weavile for example? I sure wouldnt cuz its shooting yourself in a foot) and then farm over and over and over again the exp for 6 mons? It takes batshit load of time, between allat you gotta practice your PVP skills. Just to put my rambling in a short sentence i will tell you: grind can be effing long, that's why people cheat.
I don't say grind is a bad way, just people have other stuff to do than sinking literal hours to make a team for it to don't play in the end. If you wanna grind and feel through it accomplishment, go for it. If you wanna join competitve scene but cant afford that much of a time for a game for kids.

I love pokemon from the games standpoint but when I tried to get more competitive. I didn't care anymore about that side. I still breed perfect pokemon as a bit of a hobby. Took me almost a week of chain catching Ditto to finally get me a 6IV ditto from Let's Go. And that is just one of the fun things I like to do. Having legitimate 6iv Rotoms and whatever else.
But it is impossible to get into a competitive sport if it doesn't look fun. And modern VGC doesn't look fun. The steams are really slow paced. Lots of time between matches. And really hard to follow the nonsensical plays you see most of the time. It is like no wonder the viewership for VGC is so low. And once you do a little digging you find out most of them cheat and by that time any interest in the eSport is gone. VGC will not be able to sustain if Wolfy gets banned is so stupid. Because he already comes off fake in his videos. His breeding tutorial felt more like this is why I cheat than him actually understanding breeding mechanics. And over all him being the golden boy of VGC is why I think the eSport as a whole has been crumbling over the last few years.

Just the term hacking alone is wildly overlooked. I mean, i get there's skill in playing the game once the things are obtained, but i feel like you shouldn't be allowed to hack to take shortcuts, it's just bad taste. To give my own shot at a metaphor, it'd be like printing out cards for a TCG tournament. There's skill in playing the cards but you're still cheating by printing out cards and not obtaining them normally. Anyways, this is certainly wild but just keep your head up. At regionals and worlds, you could have official paid breeders who could be requested to get and trade to players given proper heads up or pay extra for short notice. Pokemon has a special competitive environment where the company can offer solutions outside of "just do it". There would have to more logistics that have to be looked at, however it could be on the table. To me, this feels like being an athlete and having someone else do your programming for training. Personally, I think at a certain level, Worlds or international tournaments especially, no player should be using their own account or equipment and Nintendo should give all players a way to "make" their pokemon for the tournament and lock them in. I have commented before that, as someone outside looking in, the need for a player to be a "trainer" feels unnecessary when a lot of it is just busy work so they interact with the rpg part of the game as Nintendo desires.

Genuine questions from someone that doesn't follow competitce scenes.
1.) dont they normally have use a third party program to find out if a pokemon is hacked? Cheat to find cheaters?
2.) wasnt there an intense case last year about a guy who though their pokemon was legit, he got it back in og dp or something from a trade. Trained it and transfered it all the way up to find how it was hacked?
3.) If youre unsure if a pokemon is hacked or not and you use a third party app to check, would that be cheating?
4.) would using hacked candies and items on a legit pokemon make it hacked?
5.) with all the different items now like ability patches, candies, bottle caps, proteins, mints etc is there anything that cant be changed on a pokemon?

    • @Verlisify

Reading the rules answers most questions. No hacking of any kind no matter what. Items, illegal. Hacked pokemon that isn't yours, illegal.
Common sense handles the rest. Dude with the Pokemon he thought was legit was clearly lying and Wolfe bringing that up shows how much of a liar and cheat defender he is th-cam.com/video/P2lqtO4D1ko/w-d-xo.html . Max IVs in Gen 4/5 on a legendary are billions of odds and there's in game checks for those IVs. Using hacking to check a Pokemon you want to use in competition is cheating since its exclusively used to get past the hack check.

Okay so after watching it all the way through, it seems the deeper we go, the worse it gets. So much so that, I think the part where he uses hacked mons and lies about it is really irrelevant on a scale where rigging matches with multiple entries from the same group or covering up allied pedos exists. Does that make sense? I think your vehemence is appropriate for such atrocities, and although cheating is cheating, I do genuinely think it's ridiculous to expect players to actually grind pokemon to perfect sets for the highest levels of officially sanctioned competitive play. However, VGC clearly isn't simply about actually being good at pokemon. Someone else in the comments mentioned having "official breeders" that supply pokemon, and although that specific idea is unnecessarily extra, the point is a good one (they said, in league, nobody uses their own accounts/champs, it's all available). The reason this can't happen is because it goes against the ethos Pokemon serves being a product. Pokemon is NOT just a battle simulator, it's supposed to be played with the mons you caught/traded/trained. Unfortunately, it's just not being enforced, and if the reasons why have anything to do with Wolfe, then yeah this is pure evil. Genning in older generations was somewhat understandable. Breeding was tedious due to only 1 IV being transferable prior to Gen 6, but doable, but getting the IVs you need on your legendary pokemon often took about as long as shiny hunting, if not longer. In Gen 5, the time sink required to build a viable team in the first place was extreme and would have majorly gatekept the competitive scene.
Gen 6 was about where everything became more reasonable to obtain due to having 3 guaranteed 31 IV stats on legendaries and Destiny Knot allowing for 5 IVs split between parents to be transferred. This made obtaining perfect IVs on normal mons simple and legendaries still tedious but reasonably so. Gen 7 introduced Hyper Training and made the whole process super farmable aside from 0 IV on Attack on Special Attackers, 0 IV Speed on Trick Room mons, and some specific IV value for Stakataka specifically to get an Attack boost from Beast Boost instead of Defense.
Cheating in current gen is unreasonable, but I can at least understand why people did it a long time ago.

Cheating is never understandable lmao. It was way worse in older generations since it created Pokemon with better stats than legal players could obtain.

I agree with you. The community is corrupt. You do back up your claims with facts. I would LOVE to see the community flourish based on a legit community that listens to Pokémon company rules, but YOU DO insult people who disagree with you. You’re another steadfast, adamant, person who backs up what they believe in. I use to LOVE your content, but seeing how you use to genuinely enjoy uploading content, to seeing now uploading where it seems you only do so to defend, or accuse another player hurts. I wish you success in your purge of the corrupt vgc scene, I’ll be back when it’s over!

My content hasn't really changed and I still show hype and enjoyment with SwSh and SV. Not my fault TPC gives ZERO news and its only fake leaks in the community. I was doing exposes in 2013 and the community has always been rotten, toxic, and cheat filled like with Scrafty, Duncan, Shofu, Poketips attacks.

While I think Wolfe is a skilled player, and comes up with great strategies, but he shouldn’t be allowed to gen pokemon. It completely removes the effort that is needed to put into making teams. Plus, as you said in the video, it’s completely unfair for Wolfe to have a massive advantage over other player for example when he used the Raichu, and when he flipped off the whole crowd is completely unacceptable.

If Wolfe was good he wouldn't have cheated. He isn't skilled, just a complete fraud

This is the exact reason I stopped playing competitive pokemon...even at a regional level hacking is rife...most of the popular streamers also use hacks...I have no problem with the ones who say they are but most of them claim to be legit and there dumb fans believe them even when the encounters they get are statistical anomolies.

Its real bad in general gaming. Every other week a "top streamer" or "top ranked player" that had been known for years gets busted as a cheater
