For real, after going through the arduous ether mines and meeting Xord the first time, I don't know what to expect here on out. Which is good and made me wanna play more to find out!
I recently replayed this game on NG+ and let my mother watch. When I got to this scene, she somehow knew Zanza would be evil and kept telling Shulk not to release him, but it was because she thought he’d do evil things as soon as he was released, because of the vision Shulk got when fighting Metal Face in Colony 6. Then when he released the Monado, and then got impaled by Metal Face, she felt bad for him. Then when he was revealed to be evil, she yelled in triumph, “I knew it!”
I just noticed how at 2:30 when Meyneth and Zanza are speaking telepathically, their thought waves are red (meyneth) and gold (zanza) to match their respective color schemes. Kind of a neat detail.
SPOILERS While shulk is contemplating the purpose of his life, alvis talks about the passage of fate. "The lives created by Zanza and Meyneth inevitably attempt to escape the passage of fate. This signifies the beginning of their destruction." This means it was actually Egil who set Zanza's reawakening in motion. Egil tried to stop zanza by robbing the Bionis of its ether, but by doing this, Fiora, who was close to shulk, was captured. This angered shulk, so he follows his visions and takes revenge on the Mechon. He is eventually led to mechonis core, where zanza tries to get him to kill Egil, the soul of Mechonis, so the mechonis itself would die. Shulk comes to understand Egil but Dickson intervenes, awakening zanza who destroys mechonis. Egil tried to escape his destruction, but he angered shulk, so his destruction was inevitable.

HUGE FUCKING SPOILER ALERT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED when you found out that the Monado couldn't hurt homs I knew that the faced mechon were homs, and I had a suspicion even before that that mumkhar was metal face and I don't know why I knew something was up with Zanza
The Devious Duplighost I haven't yet completed it, but mine would have to be either this or the beginning of the quest, when Fiora gets killed(Shhhhh...). I loved that one because it showed you how much Shulk wanted to kill Metal Face and it also introduced us to the best track in the game, engage the enemy.
One thing that really gets to me about this scene is that it is later implied that that is the first time Melia realized her father loved her. It's implied that she didn't believe he loved her until the very end, right before he dies. She spent her whole life thinking her father didn't love her.
Shulk; Paragon of Plot Relevance. Reyn; Follower, just enough plot relevance. Fiora; The person that moved the plot forward, also happens to be the person who gets snagged onto the person with equal relevance to Shulk. Sharla; Just a shred of plot relevance. Dunban; A really cool dude, but has more relevance in his own personal plot with Metal Face and Dickson than Shulks. Riki; Zero plot relevance, but I highly respect him. Melia;... The punching bag of the whole plot.
This cutscene is so hype. It would be utter perfection if they had resisted the urge to have Melia (who should be grieving for her father at the time) blurt out "IT'S CHANGING FORM!" Yes we know that. You didn't have to say that.
Personally, this moment is just cathartic. One of the best cutscenes in the game, and for good reason: you have a culmination of Shulk's journey for revenge up to this point of the story, followed by, once again, the despicable Metal Face interrupting and seemingly ruining everything, stating that once again, you're utterly powerless to do anything to change fate... and then it happens. The Monado changes, and the power is yours. It's a cathartic moment for the player and the characters, and the game KNOWS IT. Silver Face, who if you know who it REALLY is saying those words "We cannot withstand such power!" is the moment where you go: It's payback time. Time to make them pay for absolutely everything they've done up to this point with this shiny new power you've just attained. The transition from Engage the Enemy to You Will Know Our Names is masterful as wel, and the noise the Monado makes as it powers up... just everything visually and audio related to that moment is incredible. One of the MANY highlights of this game, ip there with "Your blade... it did not cut deep enough."
I love when she says to Metal Face to "Be careful, we cannot withstand such power!", that's so awesome, it's the moment you realize the "oh boi, shit just got REAL". XENOBLADE CHRONICLES DEFINITIVE EDITION ON SWITCH HYPE

I have just recently watched End of Evangelion, that moment when that ether spear pierces the barrier and pierces Zanza reminds me of when the Lance of Longinus pierces the AT field and pierces Unit 02.

The giant is NOT Zanza. .. He was just possesed by him , but by imprisoning the Giant, a part of Zanza was trapped also ... With him released the end itself is put in motion ... 2nd time playing this gives a whole other meaning to the things happening here
I love how Zanza talks about the MONADO'S power being "shackled" as a way of referring to himself being shackled. The parallels are so obvious upon second viewing
I have to tell you the HD does look a lot better. It looks like an animated cartoon and you get a feel for the art style they were going for. There are still things like having squares for fingers or washed out back grounds, but considering it's a wii and it's just an awesome game. I wonder if Nintendo could just apply a different filter over the game along with raising the resolution of the game. Sell it for 30 instead of 20 for old wii games. and make it a port for the wii u.
Just got through this cutscene on the switch version and I was so shocked about metal face literally it was so obvious who it was and I had no clue I was so shocked by it. Was spoiled about fiora unfortunately but that was the only thing I was spoiled about in this game. So excited to see where this story is going!!!

The staff is obtainable (Imperial Staff), but it can be missed. You need to talk to Kallian in Alcamoth after setting out for Valak Mountain but before he leaves Alcamoth for good (I don't know when he leaves, though). It's pretty obscure and I probably didn't even know that back when I recorded this.

Yea I tried Dolphin on my setup. I get some frame rate problems at 720p and 4x AA. My CPU is fine but I think it's a little too weak for dolphin at times.

I hate when morons try and point out inconsistencies. Since you can't use your damn eyes, I'd like to point out that Metal Face knocked Shulk on his ass and, when the Emperor gets stabbed, Shulk is still trying to get back up. But none of that really matters since your logic is severely flawed. How the hell would he manage to distract Metal Face if his weapon won't fucking work and the time span between Metal Face reactivating and killing the Emperor was ten seconds at most? Please think next time you try and sound smart.

I hate when morons try and point out inconsistencies. Since you can't use your damn eyes, I'd like to point out that Metal Face knocked Shulk on his ass and, when the Emperor gets stabbed, Shulk is still trying to get back up. But none of that really matters since your logic is severely flawed. How the hell would he manage to distract Metal Face if his weapon won't fucking work and the time span between Metal Face reactivating and killing the Emperor was ten seconds at most? Please think next time you try and sound smart.
