Elite star QBs are a late 90s-on type thing. Before then, it was the RBs who were the stars, and the Bears have 2 in the top 10 all time. Walter being top 3, Sayers maybe around 6 or 7.
Not to mention 3 of the top 10 ILBs of all time, 2 of them in the top 5.

@themilwaukeebrewerswillnev7545 It hasnt been throughout most of the NFL's history. Running backs and defense were far more important to a teams success pre 2000s. Plenty of teams won super bowls with mediocre QBs and incredible running backs.

@@A69M67 It is important now, but when have the bears really pursued QB's early in the draft? The bears have only drafted 3 QB's in the top 10 picks in their history, Trubisky, Fields, and Williams.
If you look at the past 20 years, when most teams have gained a QB to throw for 4000 yards, and/or 40 TDs, the Bears have only held the top 10 pick 3 times, (once trading up for trubisky). Meaning they've been good enough in recent memory they haven't been able to draft a decent QB. When they have been bad enough, in the previous 2 attempts, they failed at drafting a franchise QB.
The NFL wasn't always a QB first league, which is why the Bears just recently started prioritizing the QB position in the draft. also is the main reason they haven't had a 4000 yard passer or a QB to throw for 40 TDs, but still have the 2nd leading rusher in NFL history.

Bears fan (pretty obvious with my username) I think they WILL make the playoffs as the 7 seed, but that is IF they mostly stay healthy. If the offensive line becomes a revolving door of backups, it will make life much more difficult for Caleb Williams, so I really hope the coaches are dedicating an equal amount of their efforts to developing their backups and scout players as they are the starters
Also, the Edge position is the worst in the league not counting Sweat. If he goes down the defense goes from top 10 to bottom 5. The value of a top tier DLine heavily outweighs a top tier back 7, yet nobody is talking about this in the local media here
They're expecting Javon Dexter to take next step and I still believe they'll pick up a free agent DE before season or during Training camp but I agree that is on paper our Achilles heal but I'm optimistic about Dexter's growth as well as a possible pick up off the market!

I don’t think Sweat is the difference between a bottom 5 and top 10 defense lol that’s pretty wild. I think without him though they’re pretty average. FWIW big dex already looks like a potential breakout player and they have some decent depth at DE though no one as good as sweat. I’m not worried about D Line, I’m more worried about O line. If the Bears lose Wright at RT or Jenkins (which is almost expected at some point) they’re looking at a bottom 10 O Line. They need some interior help badly even rn at full strength imo.

Even as a Packers fan, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bears are competing for a Wild Card spot this year (mainly due to the Lions and Packers likely being in the top of the division), but I seriously don't get the overhyping of Caleb Williams

@Cooler_By_The_Lake the were a top 5 defense in the league after they acquired montez sweat. They aren't even close to the worst OL in the league. Even last year they finished at 15th in OL rankings. Also if you think Keenan Allen isn't talented, you don't know football, odunze is a great young receiver, kmet is a top 10 TE and they added swift to the RB room.

They’re going to come to every game with everything they have. Unless the team is at 100% all of the time, they won’t be able to match up. Bears have some easy games against Carolina, Wash, AZ, and Pats, but the AFC South games should all be very difficult and the Rams and 49ers are going to stomp them. And the divisional games are going to be brutal. Even if they magically somehow split with their divisional rivals and win all the easy games, that’s only 8 wins IE only one game better than last year.
Why do you think the bears splitting with our division rivals is some magical feat? We literally did it last year against the Vikings and Lions with a significantly worse roster (and we should’ve swept the lions if we didn’t collapse in the final 2 minutes). We won 7 games with a much harder schedule last year so I feel like 8 is the floor for us. Not to mention our first divisional game is in Week 11 so Caleb will have plenty of time to adjust.
@@noahnkr1023 I fear DET and GB will only improve this year, and to be honest we caught DET in a weird slump in the middle of last year. They significantly improved the last quarter of 23. You made some good points too, so maybe “magically” is a strong word, but the point stands that it is not guaranteed we will be able to split the divisional games, and we will have to do that at a minimum if we want to make the playoffs, because I project DET and GB to both be 10+ winners.

This seems like a much more realistic prediction. Their team has improved significantly, but it's not THAT good, and it's also the first year many of these guys have played together. I know they do training and practice together but it's just not quite the same as being in an actual game against another team. They need at least one season to really gel with each other. In a couple years, I could see them potentially winning the NFC North, but that's yet to be determined. Although, I guess it also depends on what happens with th Lions, Packers, and...I was gonna say Vikings but let's be honest it doesn't matter what the Vikings do this year lmao.
The rams defense has always been more than mediocre.
