    Hi Paul! I just wanted to say that I am a huge fan of your videos as they have helped to make me do decent work with Captivate. Thank you so much for the tutorials.
    I also wanted to add in one thing that I have learned with timing in Advanced Actions. I noticed in your order you were showing the object first then applying the effect. On slower computers, when that is done, it is noticeable that the object appears for a split second before doing the entrance effect. I have found that applying the affect first in the Advanced Action, then showing it helps to prevent that. If that doesn't help, put a 0.1 delay before it shows but after the effect. Doing this will help to start the effect and when the object comes in, it won't appear in place first then jump to the animation.

    This was awesome. Hadin't considered this because of states. Can you tell me if the audio in advanced action like this are capable of using closed captioning? Or is that only on the main timeline audio?

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only on the main timeline. My solution is to include all the text onscreen for any triggered audio.

    Thanks, good stuff! Question: is this the only way to control time line after a button click? It seems like a lot of work and I want to have it on numerous slides? Goal: Have textboxes display one after another automatically based on timeline , but only after the initial button is pressed.

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  ปีที่แล้ว

      Like most things in Adobe Captivate, there are multiple ways to achieve this. Personally, this is the best method, but depending on your slide design, you could have pausing and continuing the timeline with button clicks.

    Hi Paul. Thanks for all you do with you video tutorials. I was wondering if you could apply an effect to different state views of a multi-state object, so that when you click a button to change the state, the effect will trigger? I have been trying to apply the AlphaFromTo effect as a fade in for each state of the object whenever the next button has been clicked, but the state always comes in solid. I have it going from 0% to 100% over 2 seconds. Do you know if this is possible? Thanks again for all you do for this community.

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do this but it needs to be done with actions in an advanced action. I might do a video on this at some point.

    • @CR-pc9lg
      @CR-pc9lg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptivateTeacher That would be great. I did try using an advanced action to show the object, change the state from default to desired, then apply the effect. Everything worked except the effect was never applied. It went from hidden straight to desired state. Thanks again for all you do for this community Paul!

    Thanks for sharing this Paul! Was disappointed that you could not apply effect to items in a group when "Shown" but this approach allows it. One issue though is that "Easing" does not appear to work when using this approach. It does not appear to work on your either? Is this a bug? Thanks!

    Hey Paul, Thanks for all your videos. I'm just getting into captivate and these videos are so helpful. I'm doing a software simulation and trying to find a way to have an arrow appear after 3 seconds of inactivity. This arrow will be pointing to the next user action required. Unfortunately i have no clue about the terminology to describe this so finding a video is tough.

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just do that with the timeline. Extend your timeline to play for the three seconds after the narration or instructions and place the arrow on the timeline three seconds layer. Extend any objects that pause the slide to beyond the appearance of the arrow.

    Hi Paul! What's your typical workflow to collaborate on E-Learning development with team members who have no E-Learning development experience?

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First I would design a Captivate theme file (template) that provides all the design decisions, so their only job is to populate the content. I would also take on the role of "Solver of Complex eLearning Problems." While they continue to develop more of the training that falls into the category of level 1 and possibly level 2 eLearning, I would work on the more complex learning interactions that fall into the level 3 and 4 eLearning.

    Hi Paul, I have a question, I am adding multiple audios to a single silide and since it is a click and reveal when it is clicked it shows different texts
    add sound in status view to each
    but now when I'm going to add the main audio to that slide and I preview it, it doesn't play the main audio, only the one from the click and reveal buttons
    and on the other hand, the radio button that shows "stop audio when" appears to me disabled and I can't click so the main audio and click and reveal sound together.
    Thank you

    Hi Paul! I am working with a timeline in the advanced action that will assign a variable a value of 1 after the audio for that button has played. I also have a conditional action that will show a continue button after all the variables have a value greater than 0 but the button is not showing up. Is there an easier way to do this? I am trying to prevent the user from skipping through the audio on the buttons.

      Yes you can. There are an assortment of animations and motion paths that can be applied to your objects in Adobe Captivate.

    Hey Paul, I have a question, it may be a bit hard to describe, so bare with me. In my learning module, I have a list of text that I want to appear, point by point, after a button has been clicked. Each point on the list has a fade-in of .5 seconds. I have grouped the text and hidden it, and have tried using an advanced action to show/trigger the start of the list. However, because the list is on the time line, by the time you click on the button, it is already halfway done appearing. Is there any way to stop that from happening? I.e - Is there a way to prevent the list from appearing unless I have clicked the button? Thanks, I know that was a bit long winded

    • @CaptivateTeacher
      @CaptivateTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the problem with using the timeline is that all the objects and any audio are synchronous. This solution is asynchronous and I don't see how you could mix the two.

    Hey Paul, thanks again for all your tutorials! I am pulling my hair out just trying to understand what I thought would be so simple. Here's a scenario. I have 5 text caption boxes on a slide. I want them to 'appear' at different times on the slide to add a little impact. I have textbox one set to appear for rest of slide and after 1 second. Then I have a second text caption set to appear for Rest of Side and appear after 2 seconds. etc etc etc for the remaining text captions. When I preview my project, only text box 1 appears. And I've checked the entire slide duration is something like 25 seconds, so there should be plenty of time to move through each text caption box. I never move beyond the caption at the 1 second mark on the timeline. It seems like this should be very straightforward. Any idea what I'm missing? I have a screenshot of my timeline but I can't paste it here.

      I suspect you have one or more buttons on this slide. Buttons add a default pause at 1.5 seconds to wait for the learner to press them. Try changing that pause time on the button to be after all your delayed appearance of your other objects. You can do this by selected the button and looking at the timing panel. You'll see an entry called Pause after...

    HI Paul. Grateful thanks for your excellent tutorials. I have an issue where I have to use the name of the student at the beginning of the course and have that name automatically entered in the completion of the course certificate. I would appreciate it if you could point me in the correct direction. You may have already done this. I also need to figure out how I can do it, so that another student just does not enter his name and print the certificate without going through the course. Thanks.

      The best way to do this is to use the system variable *cpQuizInfoStudentName* which pulls the name of a student from your learning management system.

      We have a project in which, the first step is filling up a form. The form is on our website. From this form, we are fetching only the first name. The name is shown using a variable onto the captivate Welcome slide from the database of ours website.
      On the final interactive video output, the name comes without any problem, but we are trying to set a voice over for this welcome slide, as we have used Text-to-speech feature of captivate for the rest of the slides in the project.
      But on the first slide we can’t use voice over as it is Dynamic Text and not Static. So, speech notes can’t be used for Text-to -speech feature on the first slide.
      Is there any feature in Adobe Captivate where the voice over can read the text of the slide when its dynamic? We have tried few java scripts to achieve this and we were able to get the output in system voice over.
      The script used for the Voice over is:
      “var msg = new SpeechSynthesisUtterance(text_cap_name);
      window.speechSynthesis.speak(msg);
      This generates the audio for dynamic text, but the duration is not fixed if the name has entries with long characters. Because of this, the video plays and the audio keep on playing onto the next slide in the output and interferes with the audio of the second slide.
      We want to try to match the video duration with the audio duration, using dynamic text-to-speech for the first slide.

      First and foremost, I can't help you with this idea. I've never tried anything quite like this before. But let me share my thoughts about this. I understand your desire to increase engagement from your learners by using their names to create a personable quality for your eLearning. Unfortunately, I suspect that having an electronic voice use the learner's name will have the opposite effect. I think most people will be annoyed or possibly creeped out by this. Think about the last time you got a phone call from a machine trying to sell you something "Congratulations. Your name has been selected..." If you're like me, and I think most people are, you find this annoying that a company values you so little that they can't even have a real person call you up. I prefer to use a real person narrate my eLearning course. Even if this prevents you from using the learner's name, it will be more natural to hear a real person's voice. Ask yourself, are you trying to impress your boss with your ability to use technology or are you honestly trying to improve the eLearning experience for your audience.
