After Mano acted in Singaravelan, quite a few acting opportunties kept coming. But Ilayaraja advised Mano it would be difficult to shuffle between singing and acting and he may end up losing some songs which are in pipeline. Mano abided by Maestro's advice and rest is history. I was so fortunate to meet Mano sir in Dallas in 2016 in Maestro's concert and also got his autograph for the 1000 movie book I made for Maestro. 🥰
IR explored the length, breadth and width of Mano's vocals and utilized him to the fullest, grooming and nurturing his vocal talent. He was the one who christened him "Mano" and also rightly guided him at a crucial moment that he will be lost if he quits playback singing / chooses to become a comedian, following Singaaravelan movie. My personal favorite songs of Mano: Thenmozhi, Shenbagame (the moment he starts Pattu pattu poochi pola was/is refreshing), Nee oru kaadhal, Vizhiyil oru kavidhai padithaen, Or poomaalai, Yenge iraivan, followed by a ton more!
