It looks cool to have that horizontally split rear tailgate - until you need to reach deep into the back of the vehicle, and that lower half is making the cargo area a foot deeper to reach into... I have a 2015 FPIU (Police Explorer) - the thing I like about retired police cars is that they are factory-stripped-down and designed to be modified (the factory publishes a modifier's guide). Less crap in them than the luxury stuff being shoved down people's throats, you can actually remove the vinyl floors and hose them off in a few minutes (great for kids). Things like the "Ford Digital Experience" - is just a distraction, and "over the air upgrades" means your car now has an internet-facing attack surface. My FPIU has a 3.7L V6 - this has a 3.5L Turbo, which was an option on the Explorer versions (disfavored by many agencies) as the engine is a bit high strung for its displacement. I'm guessing it's the same 3.5L EcoBoost available in the current 2020+ FPIU for pars commonality - but would be better if it was a hybrid (like the MAX version with an extended-range battery pack under the floor instead of a third row of seats).
No, and they aren't meant to. Its a SSV, meaning not pursuit rated like the FPIU. The line of Ford vehicles good for pursuits are called "Interceptors"
They shouldn’t need a new fleet of the newest car every year. It’s a waste of the tax payers money. 1 f150 cost around 80k not including you have to turn it to a cop car.. they aren’t catching anyone time soon in a f150. If they still run with no issues the car should be used in till the wheels fall off.. there are many good cop cars being sold at auction to make room for the new cars every year
@ what rock do you live under Suburban country boy? The moment you enter a major city there’s a fresh fleet of new 2024 cop cars. I’m from Philadelphia and they always have newest ford explorer..
They need to put a V8 in the Expedition SSV. Also, more departments are using the Mustang 5.0 V8 over the EV.
Does it have frame mounted crash bars like the F150?

TAX PAYERS have deep pockets to pay for non law enforcing operators.

Who are you talking about? I don’t know of any department that gives officers a new car every year.
That is not true, 1 police f150 costs around 60-70k with all the police equipment

FWD's ;-(
Not front wheel drive. The Explorer's have rear wheel drive / 4wd for 4~5yr ish.
