I imagine that before the curtain falls, right after the last note with that little *brrm* sound cue, all the lights go dark. Then when they come back on the curtain is down already
Penelope takes away the headband that Odysseus had gotten from Polites, losing that last bit of humanity. Also, not sure if you noticed in the different monster flashbacks you can see Polites glasses on the ground 😢
I feel it’s more of fully rejecting Polites’ philosophy of greeting the world with open arms and truly accepting that the only way he’s going to see his wife and son again is to embrace that Ruthlessness really is Mercy Upon Ourselves
There was a song that got cut that was Polites calling himself Odysseus' "light" and i feel like there are some references to that thought process in other parts of the other songs. I feel like removing the headband was basically calling to the fact that oddy's lost all his "light" and is officially "gone dark"
@@m1sh474 Sometimes I think it's necessary, though. For example, in God games I don't think I would have had any idea what was going on in the end if I didn't watch the livestream. In fact, Casper thought a completely different thing was going on up until Mortius showed him the animatic
@@lauras.3863 Well at the end of the day this is a musical so visuals are as important as the songs, I've seen people react to the songs with no animatics and most of the time they misunderstand some scenes since they don't know what is happening.
@@Dangsm You're right, but unlike the other songs, I got the impressions that God games was specifically made to be enjoyed visually, not only acoustically
I honestly dont get how this was confused there was no musical cues to say it was athena the monster odysseus design was used in this video when he was talking about the trojan horse and he even says he lost his mentor which hed not say if that were athena I can understand forgetting the visuals for just a man though that was long time ago that she reacted to that
I'd just like to add that one of my favorite, subtle things that gigi did was at the line "And if I gotta drop another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don't die." Towards the end of this build up, he's holding the infant over the wall again. And then when "die" is sung, he's replaced with the Monster. But one of my favorite things is that the monster's hand is *open.* Cause yes, it's open in terms of offering a handshake. But it's also open cause *he dropped the child.*
Yes, gigi is super clever with the imagery and I love it 😭 Their stuff is amazing. I also adore their color use and theming! I love when clever talented people collaborate creatively with other clever talented people 😊
Can we talk about how Odysseus mentions all cretures that directly brought him problems AND HIMSELF IN THE SAME VERSE??? As if he is counting himself as a "monster" in someone else's (Troy's) story
And he is giving them all more empathy than himself in the phrasing. Is Polyphemus feel guilty or is he just happy to avenge his friend? Is Circe driving herself mad or has she harden her heart and learned to hide the weight of her choices? Does Poseidon feel like he is doing wrong or does he see it as a requirement to maintain his power? Did I do the trojan horse scheme and kill men in their beds because I "am vile" or is that what I needed to do to keep my men alive?
It took me *so* many plays to realise that the opening guitar riff (and for that matter the closing notes of No Longer You) is the crew's "woooah-oh-oh-oh-oh" melody from Remember Them.
15:04 She took off the headband from Polites, showing his shift from the open arms mentality to the ruthless mentality, making him the monster he needs to be in order to get home! ((I LOVE that detail, Gigi is an absolute genius!))
When you get to the Wisdom Saga you should definitely check out the live stream version if it's still up on Jay's channel! He commissioned a bunch of animatics and artwork from several artists (including Gigi!) for it and it really just takes the storytelling for that saga to the next level!
I love this song, its one of my absolute favorites, especially with Gigi's animatic. Also, i know it wasnt planned, but at 3:35, you were talking about how its so empty and we hear Ody then the instrument, and i just love how much AMBIENCE the rain in the background gives to that one section 😂
When you finish watching the musical, you NEED to watch epic fandom memes and compilations of the cast and Jay's channel. They are hilarious. Also, "Basically Epic the Musical" is so amazing.
Ayyyy, looking forward to the shock. Jen's reactions are somehow more than her insight and I have a feeling monster will get her. Also something I really like about this song (from a storytelling perspective) is that towards the end of keep your friends close Odysseus tells Penelope "So much has changed but I am the same" and this song begins with the theme of "Do I need to change" as this is where the underworld saga ends and from here on out we will be seeing a changed Odysseus
I know you tend to do one song videos for this and that's fine but: The next two songs lead into each other at the same speed as Polyphemus and Survive. Even if you separate the video might be a good idea to do them back to back when recording. If you haven't already done one...
Great analysis as usual! I'm very excited to hear your thoughts on Suffering and Different Beast specifically, coming up. The quality is definitely kept up from here. 😊
I mean odysseus didnt "beat" the prophet he got the answers he seeked just ones that he didnt want Ah you forgot what happened in the just a man animatic honestly makes sense because of how long ago it was but no it's not athena its the monster inside him that you actually even see in this same animatic when he talks about the trojan horse but i guess that was overlooked anyways before this it was shown last all the way back in the first saga You'll know if any person is returning because they almost always bring back their instrument which was the big hint that it wasnt athena Final big hint was him openly saying he lost his mentor
I believe visually Penelope takes the headband that Odysseus kept from Polites as a symbol of trying to follow the ideals of "open arms". And in taking the headband it visually tells us that Odysseus is now abandoning those ideals of mercy and moving towards a more ruthless path to make it back to Penelope.
im so excited for you to get to wisdom saga, there are so many amazing new characters/singers, especially in the last song god games, its all so so good
Odysseus took that headband from Polites when he died It being removed is a way of showing that he's now completely rejecting Polites' philosophy No more mister nice guy
I have always questioned what "I am the only line I haven't crossed" means, and honestly i'm still confused lol Edit: Also just want to say that is NOT Athena that is in fact the monster Ody perceives himself as before he kills the baby (Just a man)
He kept trying to find middle ground, and in doing so he failed to stay on the "right" side of anyone. To ruthless for some, and not ruthless enough for others.
Odysseus' line is his own moral code, which includes sparing the Cyclops when he could have killed him, seeking the good in people or god, striving to save as many lives as possible and greeting the world with open arms. His refusal to cross the line into ruthlessness or become a monster stems from his guilt over the pancake baby and Polites.
I believe it’s in reference to the saying “you crossed a line” or similar things, and he’s saying that out of everyone he’s encountered (monsters and crew alike, I interpreted. May be wrong though), he’s always crossed their lines but he’s never crossed his OWN line. This whole song is about him doing so and becoming the monster :)
Ok, so the headband that was ripped off his head was Polites's and he took it from his body in Wolfy's Animatic an. Everyone else just kinda ran with it because that was just a beautiful scene.
Thunder Saga should open with the house lights going down and Zeus saying over the speakers so that it seems to come from everywhere, "I DON'T THINK YOOOU'RE READY." Because we weren't.
And with that, Odysseus ensures the Prophet's prophecy will come true. He has decided to deny his true self to become whoever he needs to be to get home. "A man who is haunting, a man with a trail of bodies...a man who gets to make it home alive, but it's no longer you".
That's the thing about prophecies, you only understand what they fully meant when everything's already over and you can no longer change the outcome. I love when it's done smartly 😁
Jennifer: “Let me look at the other monsters Ive kinda dealt with along the way..” “Did they have that same amount of guilt or is that just the role that they play…?” Me: “Bars, bars…🤔”

To get a full spoiler-free experience, do check out Crazycae's POV video. Be warned, though, she combines the first 2 songs together for a more seamless viewing experience.
idk if it just me but around 9:43 to like 9:48 when the shadow or monster moves when he sings i thought of it like he is the monster so i thought it was like saying hey im moving so im the one technally singing
Great video one recommendation for the next two sagas, it would be awesome if you reacted to the live stream, cause that’s still up and some of the visuals are perfection specially the wisdom saga, maybe you can record both sagas back to back using the live stream, just a suggestion, but the animatics for the thunder saga are also amazing 😊
The headband belonged to Polites. The man who kept telling him to be kind and great the world with arms open. Having it ripped off represents his movement away from that.

Odysseus really said “Cool prophecy you got there, bud. How’s about I make it self fulfilling?” 😂
Tiresias: That is generally how prophecies work around here, yes.
Just to clarify that figure that appeared out of the ground is not supposed to be Athena, it's just how Gigi visually shows the monster
Penelope removing Polite's headband reflects that Ody is no longer embracing the "Open Arms" philosophy and that breaks my heart 💔
Right?!😭
"Monster" ends, curtain falls. Intermission time. The bathrooms are _dead silent._

Right, because those are moments when Odysseus is being ruthless! That's cool. Same thing happens in the future too.
I believe that building up sound right before the guitar starts playing is also the same one at the start of the Horse and the Infant.
The same we will hear later on in Different Beast
Gigi absolutely KILLED it with this animatic! Especially in the part where he accepts the monster inside him.
Fun fact, the dark figure is “the monster”. The artist, Gigi, actually used this representation of the monster in their “Just a Man” animatic.

Yeah it's more of a "Athena wears a war helmet like most warriors", not really "it's Athena's Helmet (tm)" 😄
@elieli2893 plus silhouette-wise, it really does look like Wolfy's Athena, which, I'm guessing, why a lot of people assume it to be her lol
