We have a senior Jack and she doesn’t really get the zoomies anymore, but when she get excited, gets the jumps, or is enjoying a good bark at the window, we know she is having a good day!
I had a Jack for 11-odd years, and watching this video was borderline uncanny. Ned used to do exactly this, running through the lounge from one door, out the other, run screaming through the kitchen, back into the lounge, behind the couch. If you sat in the right place, he'd use you as a waypoint, and the feeling was rather like being surrounded by a biker gang, except that biker gang is a tiny dog who is very excited.
They are called “the zoomies” {or the technical name is Frenetic Random Activity Periods [FRAPs]} and there are many breeds that get them, especially if not properly exercised or mentally stimulated enough. And, I’m not saying you don’t properly exercise or stimulate your dog, not saying anyone is a bad dog parent. That’s just one reason dogs get the zoomies, there are several. They are caused by a build up of energy {can also be nervous energy} that they have to express. i.e. being let out of a crate, after a bath, before bed or after eating. And, of course, the most evil reason {according to the furries anyway} they get those zoomies is the one all pet parents have borne witness to, after that damn Vet. appt. 🙃 Plus, the younger they are, the more likely they are to zoom around quite often. They usually, not always, but most usually grow out of them as they get older. Not my Red Heeler though, LOL! I have a six year old Australian Cattle Dog & she’s nuts like Henry here or Jack Russells, in general. Which, BTW, I absolutely adore both breeds. I have always wanted a Jack Russell Terrier, timing was just never right, I guess?!?! When my Vixen gets her zoomies though, she runs around in circles, at a dizzying speed & chases her own tail. It’s so funny & entertaining, she’s a great dog. Walking her an extra 30-60 minutes a day, letting her set the pace & sniff to her hearts content, stimulates her enough mentally to keep the zoomies away. I have also come to discover, I love this breed, they are very intelligent & extremely loyal. They are loving & sweet to all people around them daily, but they usually forge a close bond with one human they live with, they claim their human. And, you will find them glued to said persons side or at their feet 90% of the day. I tell my daughters all the time “We should have named our dog Velcro Vixen.” But, I wouldn’t have her any other way, she’s a special girl 🩷 She survived Hurricane Harvey by herself, at 6 months old under a bridge overpass.
Best dog ever the jrt .the world would be inva better place if we all had a jrt in our life...the funniest , cleverest, affectionate ball of energy dog in the universe
Our miniature JRT, 11 months old, also does zoomies and is so fast it’s incredible. He can switch a straight run into a zig zag motion to avoid any obstacle, in microseconds. His energy is mind blowing and I wish I had just a small portion of it!
You just obtained a new subscriber. I have had as many as 3 JRTs at the same time. NOTHING is safe in their presence. Pet parents who have never lived with a Jackie just don't understand them. Wild and mischievous yes, fiercely loyal to their paw-rents.
I have a jack russell and he's four. He does zommies all the time. We all say whey hey hey sends him even madder. Anyone with a Jr should try an interactive giggle ball. That is so funny as well. He goes mental in the garden with it.
Whether it is the Jack Russell or the English bull terrier. They have that much energy. They have to burn it off some way and this is how they behave before owning one of these type of breed of dogs you need to be very hands-on and committed owner.
Often when they have sudden access to a larger space. Run more wild if it has one more jrt companion to compete with toys. When my jrt reaches about 15 months old, the zoomies becomes less and less.
wow the walk must have been so exciting for him 😄how often do dogs do it? cause my cats usually have them almost every day whenever they're playful, which is usually in the middle of the night lol
He gets them at least once a day, usually after his morning walk, lol. He also loves running into the house to greet those who didn't go on the walk, haha. Such a funny lil terrier.
This is what happens when the Terrior, who naturally needs to engage in running, baying & chasing, outside -- cannot. Perhaps at least a long dog run outside could be done for short periods. They honestly need at least about 2 hrs of total "exercise" a day, on average. (My humble opinion, and Common Sense. :)

This one was right after a walk! It often happens when only one family member takes him. Maybe he misses having the whole family on the walk, lol. Or he gets so excited to share all the fascinating smells and sights that he just can't contain himself when he returns. Ha! He's such a fun little guy. But he also gets post bath zoomies!
This is a dog that is probably confined in a home all day, and doesn't get enough time outside to hunt, play and run. Jack Russells need lots of exercise and need entertaining things to do.

My Jack does this whenever you mention food or walkies, it's so funny.

I 🩷🩷🩷 Jack Russell Terriers and Henry is precious! He is so damn cute, I would love to play with him.
Ah the zoomies: a great way to burn off excess energy ⛮. Love 😍 the plop on the floor when he was done 🐕🐾❤️‼️

Since I'm down to only one, the house has become too quiet. I would love to get one more but Spouse says no.
Haha! They are so funny. Such little characters. :)

Henry - "The self-exercising 🐕" 😅
LOL!
JRT the best dogy!!!
That was so cute.
My JRT is 9 years old and she has the zoomies every day after I wipe her down...I just step to the side and get out her way!!
Hahaha! That's the same with us. He gets home from a walk, we wipe his feet and it's zoomie time! :)

Three JRTS?! Wow! Yes, fiercely loyal! :) He is fearless and feisty and we just love him to bits!
I've had 2️⃣ JRTs at once and I Loved every minute with them 🐕🐾❤️‼️
So lovely
Well at least Henrys getting his exercise! Lol what a cute little pup 💜
Who needs solar power when you have Henry power? If only there was a way to harness it! 😄
LOL!!!
Mine would run up and down the hallway. Best just to stay out of his way. When he was finished he would drink and then find someone’s lap to sleep.
Haha! So cute! :)
My JRs di the turbo all the time. Who could not LOVE such furry little beast? Best breed on the planet.
Love it, that's terriers for you.
My 2 jrt chihuahua mix don't do this as much anymore 😔😔 The zoomies are funny!!
Soooo funny! He usually gets them right after a bath or a walk! lol

Yep, always going to the park, she insists on it haha
😂😂😂💕💕💕
You need to take him on more walks.
We walked our two Parson Russell terriers every day or took them along on long mountain bike rides. Zoomies we’re still a regular part of their day.

Yes, regarding the larger space, when I let him off leash at the dog park, it's instant zoomies! :)
😂❤

oh boy \\\ can henry move\\\\
It is only replays.
Mine will do that
Is he always like that? 🤣
Every time he gets home from a walk, the park or a car ride, he runs into the house and the zoomies take over, lol!
My Edie a boarder terrier has them they happen after every bath , l shout move train coming ,
Haha! :)
