Updates - 21:15 All 3 purple rares now have lots of HP. There was one with a much smaller amount of HP when I posted this video, but it has since been patched and all 3 now are very high HP monsters. 29:21 Only bonepickers can be used to unslot Isle of Dread Augments. Jeweler's Toolkits cannot be used for this. This one isn't my fault, SSG had this error in their ddo.com web guide and have corrected it after I posted this video.
My favorite thing about IOD was a return to shorter storydriven quests with great visuals. Havent really felt that since 2010 with MOTU - up until that point DDO was still on the Module style releases and not the Update season and we had huge set pieces like VON, Sands, Abbot, etc. I liked the more linear settings and just letting the atmosphere and art shine through. Lots of parallels to the CITW flagging quests and Druids chains IMHO It is crazy that the engine DDO runs on was written in 2002 by mostly drunk college interns in the Turbine offices and became AC2 before a majority of that code base became DDO & LOTRO. Hell, there are still sound effects and meshes from Asherons Call 1 and 2 in DDO as recently as Feywild Anyway, great review as always. Enjoy your uploads
Great review Axel, much appreciated. Love how you take notes, old-school style, to recap your impressions 🙂👍 Great work and very useful insights, as always in your channel.
The linear quests have a special place in my heart 🤍 quicker to run, more likely to add another one in on a chain of group runs…I also agree new types of mechanics and challenges are fun…
Pretty much right on the mark, the one thing we really don't need is just another grind. I don't mind that sort but it's much better when it actually has flavor.
I just played through the entire pack today to practice for hard-core. I absolutely loved it very straightforward the quests are not too long the dungeons are beautiful the slayer areas beautiful the music is good the layout of the slayer area is not confusing the dungeons are not confusing I did not struggle in a single dungeon I found everything I figured everything out and I never really felt lost at any time. I think this might be my favorite pack.
I like straightforward quests. I've had to leave quests without completing because I couldn't find crests, figure out a puzzle, protect an npc, or roam around aimlessly trying to find the next place to go. It's not a good feeling to have to leave a quest because you gave up trying to figure something out. I want my character to be smart. Not me. I spend my whole life literally teaching and figuring things out. In my game I just want simplicity.
@@AxelAlexK I don't mind the jumping ideas you offered. I don't mind mazes so much either. Well... as long as it's not Crucible level mazes. I think adding a few of those purple named tough rares into quests would be a good idea too. They'd be great DPS test dojos. As long as they can be avoided if you wish. The secret word tricks using "say" are cool too.
@@PDPresents I think diversity in quest is important for ddo, to have quest we dont like in particular its great because some ppl will and make the game feel fresh and exciting
And people like you killed gaming..wasn't there enough straightforward short quests for you???Yet you still crying like 3 years old.btw this my opinion I've alrd heard urs.
Hey, nice review! I kinda get it why things are the way they are. They prolly spent A LOT of time into creating monsters (both skins and animation) and wilderness size and the purple names in there. Also a race + iconic. So yeah, if they wanted to be more creative they would prolly need more ppl into each quest. Like, ravenloft also have a big wild but nothing crazy for monster variety. Sharn had new mechanics but wild is simpler. They also have issues to deliver their raids as promised since forever. I think its voodu who always says fire on thunder peaks and deathwyrm was supposed to come with shadowfell or something. I guess 1 well done raid is better tbh. I would be very disappointed if they start to say xpack comes with x raids but the raids come in a diff pack. Dont say the xpack comes with more stuff if you are charging me again for those.
Development time is probably a direct result of the player base and their interaction in the game. You mentioned the optional puzzle room. I would be interested to know how many times that optional actually gets run. If those optionals are hardly ever run by the player base it's pretty hard to justify devoting developer time to make them.
Purple glasses yes to longer puzzle driving quests.but that was when we group together. Now it's just solo grind that you want to finesh quickly. But I do agree long rich quests are need it.5 short 3 medium and 2 long.its really sad but it is what it is DB was fun funny have depth to it DBZ have more action and now all we have left with is DBSuper just action and flashes.Anywhere you look everything is so fast Give me that horse I have no time to sit and chat in front of the gate in Qeynos.Or run around for hours buffing people. No time for that when you trying to compete..

I had sooo many pages of notes for this...15 or so. I usually prefer writing to typing.

Great video, making me want to go back to DDO. Loving Lotro but maybe it's time to go back to my barb.
Watched more of your content Axel, got myself a sub and got isle of dread. Keep it up! :)
I like the quest chain "seal of shan-to-kor" it has a more campaign feel to it.
Your views are always appreciated!
I miss the wacky older soundtrack style from the early days. 🤘
I like catchy ones, like feywilds :)
8:30 hey thats me!
great review♥

I found it pretty fun. I like that intro quest. My only criticism is the layout of the town

The legendary dread isle's curse set bonuses are so sick!
It is a nice bonus. But like saltmarsh's 5 piece set I'm not sure I can justify 5 slots so I'll probably end up sticking with a 3 piece Sharn set.

Yeah I get that. I know a lot of people feel that way.

Lightbulb, a quest similar to soar sled buy fly on peridactals that would have been amazing
Couldn't agree more about how formulaic (boring ) the quest are, they need to rise up at least with a couple of quests per expansión
The lack of freshness in an "expansion" is extremely 😔 sad

i cant stand the changes to ranged combat it the wilderness area! they totally suck.. having to run up to things to get them to activate is just dumb.
I get that. Pretty sure this was done for lag reasons though.
@@AxelAlexK yeah but the way to fix it is not to invalidate ranged builds
