Excellent vid as ever , wonderful finds along the way .Never fails to amaze me the effort they put into building stunning structures to resolve the simplest of issues . The farm track wit the two damaged bridges I would guess has been damaged by the farmer travelling along the track . Did watch this when it was released on YT but just watched again . Looking forward to your next escapade .
Thanks for watching and your kind comments. It was such an over engineered railway I think it was always planned to be expanded in the future but those days sadly never happened. Thanks again 👍
Great video Middy This is my neck of the woods so I know it quite well, it’s slowly disappearing as time passes so it’s good to watch your video. I can tell you that between the M6 and the Newton bridge, there was another bridge called Bromwich bridge about where you were standing asking if anyone knew what that brickwork was. Bromwich Bridge was just a over bridge for cattle and sheep. It was demolished completely in 1969 when work started on the New M6.
Thank you and thanks for watching. I guessed there was a bridge there at some point but as always with these things it's never obvious! I have been caught out so many times!! Thanks for the information 👍 more coming up from the area very soon 👍
Thanks Middy. We live right next to the old line just outside Rugby, near Newton, so interesting to see the bit between Newton and Lutterworth, such a waste! Happy New Year.
Thank you and thanks for watching. The whole thing is such an incredible waste. More coming up in the area as I have found some more things I missed!!!
Great little explore, and how these bridges still stand with no maintenance for near 60yrs just shows how grand the GCR was! Built to last !! Catch you soon 👍
Evening, interesting video there 👍 I am aware of this section of the route but also didn't know there was so much to see. I'll be having a wander down there soon.
Hi Middy another nice one.I have,nt looked at this bit as not as mobile as was but often go up to Newton parking area do a bit of that. Not much chance of from here to Lutterworth being opened up I fear.Keep exploring! Chrs PB.
Thanks for watching. It's the first time I have returned to Newton since I filmed it and it demands another visit! No I don't think that section will ever reopen as much as I would love it 👍plenty more on the way 👍
Great video and thank you for sharing. Can't believe the amount of trees that are growing on the bridges and will no doubt make them redundant with the structural damage that will be caused. Maybe an opportunity for someone with a chainsaw to obtain some free wood and preserving some of our heritage at the same time
Loved that opening shot. Great video as ever. The gcr never fails to impress me. The structures are absolutely amazing and surviving after years of abandonment.
Thank you I am glad you enjoyed it. The opening shot was too good not to use!! I am the same, the fact they still look so good after all this time is a r5eal credit to the generation that built them. Hopefully now back to strength and more GCR (and others!) to follow. Thanks for your support!
i live in shawell. there is a footpath near shawell manner that leads into fields towards the quarry . you will see the railway line again and can follow it to see a few more bridges . some in bad condition. if you follow the stream towards newton there will be a cool underground tunnel . and if you jump the fence and climb the hill that the tunnel follows into your see some interesting areas. it is quote steep trough :)
Fantastic mate, great video, I needed cheering up as FB have disabled my page, so no postings from me for the time being. They haven't given a reason, just a message telling me I can't use it!!! I've seen the relic @32:20 it is an old signal post, I saw it when I was down there last spring. I do hope the bridge on Lutterworth Road(bridge 430) doesn't get demolished as I have every intention of paying it a visit fairly soon.
Thanks for your support as always. Get onto them! I love your FB page surely there's no reason for it to be pulled!!? 430 is in pretty poor shape which I think I caught some of in the video , 50+ years of no maintenance... The area is worth a visit and thanks for the info 👍
You`ve done it again Middy that was fantastic. What a great way to start the new year and Happy New Year to you and your wife Sam and not forgetting Daisy, your lovely Westie. We used to have a westie when we lived in England in Derby. So, I was just wondering if there is anything left of Derby Friargate station? I remember that the bridge was still there that passed over the road, but as regards the actual station,I`m not sure. There was also a big goods shed yard and a small loco shed along Slack Lane, but that is probably long gone.Anyway,I`d be most greatful if you could explore around Derby Friargate some time in the future as it would remind me of my younger days, now living in Australia.
Thank you for watching and the kind comments. Couldn't be without a westie, great company! I am going to explore some of Derby in the very near future so keep watching! Thanks again 👍
Good to see you out making more videos again. These old bridges would obviously last even longer, if nature wasn't allowed to take over and get into the brickwork. I can't believe they dug the buried Newton road bridge out. At least they did something right, so we can all see and enjoy it.
@@MiddyExplores Same applied to the canals when industry changed and towns and cities were getting bigger by the decades. People would move for a better way of life. Motorways etc were developing rapidly so people took to buying vehicles and less passengers taking to the rails. The GCR could of been in good use as relief roads probably in the last 40 years. Now I think it's to late and towns and cities are swarming with vehicles.
@@greywebs1944 totally agree but the answer wasn't to rip them up and make people rich off the scrap etc. These lines should have been mothballed or used for freight until such time (now) that they were needed. We were handed a very thorough and usable railway network from the Victorians that with some tweaks would have been so usable. The minister's who ordered the destruction were only interested in building roads and selling cars. No thought was given to the future unfortunately.

I will never get the opportunity to visit that place, thanks for giving me the next best thing, cheers Middy.
Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it. Loads more coming up over the next 12 months !
To use your phrase. Another 'gem' of a video. A master at work and some great finds.
Thank you so much and thanks for watching. More coming up on the GCR in the near future.
Beautiful bridge 430! Hope it stays open & not demolished would be such a shame. 😊
Thank you for watching. Hopefully they will stay but you never know with developers as they are now!
Great video Middy

Thanks for watching Paul. I didn't know either! Completely missed it but well worth a visit 👍
18:40 Fantastic find, great to see a bridge that's graffiti-free!👍

Thank you for watching. Very good idea! Unfortunately most of these structures are falling apart after nearly 55 years of no maintenance.

@@MiddyExplores even down to small agricultural bridges, there's that one between lutterworth and dunton Bassett that's amazing.
