I’m 62 years old and have been Catholic my entire life. Going to Mass is part of my life, but after watching The Chosen my prayer life has come back to life in a more meaningful way and I opened the Bible for the first time in years.

This has got to be hands-down my all-time favorite interview of Jonathan so far. I love when he gets a little personal and honest. It feels like you get to know a little bit more about him as a person instead of the actor. It really does show that he is on a spiritual walk like all of us.

This may be the best interview yet. I love that you talked about Jesus laughing. One of my favourite images I've ever seen is of that. It's so rare to see depicted. Jonathan mentions how there's all this life-changing stuff about Jesus that is so serious. As I listened I thought, what if Jesus' laughter is equally life-changing as all the other things. A God who laughs with us is just as powerful as a God who weeps with us. Thank you for the hearts behind this interview. Many blessings.

Thanks Monique! It isn’t something we normally think of, Jesus laughing. But he experienced all of the emotions we feel, and humor and laughter would certainly be included🙂 So glad you enjoyed the interview!

What a fantastic and relatable interview. I love the series, support it monthly and have watched the available episodes through twice now.🤣Msgr., you are a fabulous interviewer. I never would have know you had not yet 😉watched it. Eucharist Communion, Sacramental or even Spiritual that is always available, I believe, will bring the Strength and Fortitude needed to persevere, to the cast and crew of The Chosen. I have prayed about this, posted it gently in a comment to Dallas 2 days ago. This couldnt have been accidental after just watching Johnathan and Msgr. discuss how the Sacrament influences us. The Chosen is reaching all people. 100% of people around God's world. Amen! To see now today that Jonathan is a practicing Catholic who is constantly forming his faith I know The Holy Spirit will bring us who are Catholic to Offer up both types of our own Eucharistic Communions for people to come to have personal Relationship with Jesus, for the protection of all involved in making it possible and success of the show as a 7 season series. Msgr., thank you again and may God Bless your Ministry.

Personally, I miss the Catholic Mass in the Latin Language. I studied Latin for 20+ year and whenever I see a notice in the paper for a Latin Mass… I seek it out.
My son paid the forward the 1st season of THE CHOSEN for my Birthday. I watched Season one, over and over again & was delighted to watch Season 2 . It always brings tears because I’m so grateful.

Oh that’s a worry. Catholic teaching still states we are not to be in the state of mortal sin when receiving the Lord. If we are in this state the graces received from this wonderful sacrament are not able to be received, as we have turned our backs on the Lord through sin. Serious sin. Reconciliation is such a wonderful powerful gift from God. Restoring our friendship and relationship with Him once again.

I agree! This is important and not to be taken lightly. We are not required to be perfect but we are required to be contrite, absolved and in a state of grace. I can understand Jonathan not fully understanding this but Msgr. has an obligation to clarify this.

I go to Latin Mass quite frequently and kneel to receive eucharist on my tongue. I also go to Norvus Ordo masses where people take the Holy Eucharist with their DIRTY HANDS. I never receive Eucharist with my hands or from anyone other than a priest wherever I go to Mass.......Learning Latin has been quite fun and the reverence shown to the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus present in the Eucharist with all the incense, gregorian chanting, everyone singing and participating in Latin, ladies wearing head coverings, kids screaming in the back of church because everybody has 4 to 6 kids, is GREAT. It is frustrating at first, to keep up while learning Latin. But if you watch what is going on, you know exactly what is being done: Transubstantiation. I am there to worship Our Lord and Receive Him as the Bride of Christ, which we all are. There isn't going to be any laughter, but there is much joy. It is hard to laugh when you are staring at a crucifix of Jesus that is a reminder that he is the sacrifice that we are taking into our bodies.
The Gregorian Chanting and the singing of the prayers in Latin is like experiencing an opera or concert. I get lost in it. It has also taken me about 6 months to get the hang of it, and I still lose my place in my Laudate Missal on my Cell Phone....... It is mostly young people who go to Latin Mass in Texas and Louisiana, which is where I go.
I think that Mr. Roumie should not judge others in CHURCH. That is not appropriate. I find the Norvus Ordo Masses BORING and PLAIN, showing no reverence. Everyone in Mass at the Latin Rite BELIEVES that the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ and it is a reverent act of surrender and prayer. They make a point to be there and learn Latin. 80% of current Catholics do not believe in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. And that is A SHAME.
One Bone to Pick: If you are not Catholic, you should not be receiving the Holy Eucharist. Why would any Catholic say such a thing and why would the good Msgr. Jim not correct him? Mr. Roumie is an actor, who plays a character. That doesn't mean he can tell people that if they "feel" they need the Eucharist, then go get it. That is wrong and it is a sin.

Well said! I went to The Latin Mass all during the fifties it was taken away... I returned to it in Rapid City in the 90s drove 3 hours from Nebraska to South Dakota Rapid City to go to a Latin Mass to a young priest Fraternity St. Peter ... He was in his thirties ...We used to take him out to eat after Mass...The young Priest joyful, Holy, Happy.... There's no comparison from the Latin Mass to the Novus order! The Latin Mass is complete reverence people come 1 hour early they are not miserable, they reverence the one Holy Sacrifice of Calvary presented at the Latin Mass... The Novus order everybody is smiling laughing like they're at a ballgame downtown talk all during Mass go up the communion chewing gum stick their dirty hands out... No reverence, the choir singing silly songs from the 60s .....No comparison! the late great Archbishop Sheen called the church after the Latin Mass the ape church Novus order it's a replica it'll never be the Latin Mass... I agree with you a hundred percent ...We see to the silliness of a Mass that people like because they get out faster and, they don't have to dress up they come in wearing shorts whatever they want to wear like their going to the park and having some kind of a service the Bible in their hands.. Thank you for saying what you said I agree!

Oh my! the Latin Mass (for me) has been such a blessing of joy. Yes, the attendees are very serious about where they are but I can count on silence which I so need before and after Mass. 7 days, 24 hours, I prefer my time at Holy Mass to be solemn. The lack of distraction helps me to remember where I am and with whom. And the children are very well behaved with the exception of the babies crying which I love. Many children attend and kneel behind their parents waiting for the Priest to bring Jesus and they know it's solemn. And they all gather after Mass, the big families. Love it! Anyway, I'm sorry to hear the Mr. Roumie had a negative judgement on it. Also, if we pray the Creed and mean it, a Protestant is not meant to receive the Most Holy Eucharist. I know sometimes that happens in error. I actually attend a Mass where before every Mass the Priest reminds whoever is there that it is only Catholics who can receive but they can present themselves for a blessing. Must give them a longing & the desire to seek. God Bless, great interview Msgr Jim.

The Lord clearly impressed upon my heart during early COVID, out of the blue, to start attending the TLM. Wow. I’ve been blown away. I too feel that’s it’s unfortunate that this was not his impression by the parishioners. Our TLM is vibrant with very happy and sociable people. My experience has been that those who attend the TLM, of course in general, are more aware of Our Lord’s presence and the fact that we are at the foot of Calvary. So maybe it was just the utmost reverence being shown in all its gravity.

I believe when Jesus witnessed His Perfect Persona to us, with this being His "Soul" Purpose of course...to show us how to live righteously...but He also was witnessing our individual lives (well, those during His First Appearance and Choosing), their humanity, their flaws, their failings, their hunger for Him as well...which are ultimately ours as well, as nothing is new under the sun...up close and personally during that time....rather than from His Throne...so He could interact personally with "the human condition"...that, of the hearts of each individual...which solidified His Sacrifice. Because He Loved us so very much!
God bless. Enjoyed this video! 🙏❤✌🏼

As a fan of The Chosen I found this interview so very interesting. Jonathan is great as the lead and listening to him I can understand why. He makes Jesus so human. We’re drawn to the fact that Jesus had the same emotions as the rest of us. He got tired, he hungered. He needed water. He hurt. This program has made me feel closer to him as a man. I would have loved to have him as my friend. The program also brings to life the apostles. They were just words in the Bible. This shows them as real people who had many problems. It makes them more relatable to me. I’m so glad that this show is available to everyone. Msgr Lisante you will love it. God bless.

Jonathan, I'm sorry you had that experience at a TLM. I absolutely love the Latin Mass and the people who have chosen to be there. Ironically, just yesterday, we had a conversation at a Legion of Mary conference about how joy-filled we are and how that attracts people to the faith--not the misery. I've not experienced "miserable" people at the TLM but reverent people, and I am okay with that. Because, like everything else there is a time and place for showing their joy outwardly and that begins once they leave the church building. The more I have attended the TLM I have come to find that it is all about God, not about me, not about the latest toe-tapping hymns. And it is truly beautiful. p.s. I'm a huge fan and pray the Chaplet with you daily on Hallow. May God continue to bless you as you share your faith and bring others to Jesus through that sharing.

Msgr. Jim, I know what what you mean about people looking miserable when receiving the Eucharist, but please be aware that some of us may well be miserable because of what is going on in our lives. The Eucharist may well be the one way the Lord meets us which helps us to hold ourselves together. Others of us may be having a deeply moving time with the Lord at the time of receiving the Eucharist. And then some others are, in fact, miserable because they have no clue who it is that they are receiving or even why they HAVE to be there. On the other hand, I have been so filled with joy in Mass, that by the time I receive the Eucharist, I’m a blubbering idiot! Remember that not everyone who met Jesus personally, was happy at that time. In fact many WERE miserable. Please don’t judge everyone who comes to receive the Eucharist by what their affect may be at the time. I believe that Jesus is handling anything that may be going on with them. I pray that all priests are lovingly administering the Eucharist and accepting the communicants as the Body of Christ whether they appear happy or sad.

I attend the TLM and, on occasion, a very reverent Mass in the ordinary form. At both parishes the laity seems to understand that reception of the Eucharist is the holiest time of our week. There are, undoubtedly, many people struggling and troubled. But we also take our worship seriously. I know that I am serious during Mass... I can laugh and celebrate when I bounce to the parking lot.

Monsignor was very naughty to have said what he did. What an awful reflection on the devoted communicants who are so faithful. He should spend his energy on making certain his communicants receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before approaching the Eucharist. I suspect his opinion may be the result of the neglect of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In some parishes it is offered 24/7. In others, not at all.

What a beautiful powerful gracious interview. I know this is an older interview, but I just came across it. I sure hope Monsignor has watched all 3 seasons of The Chosen by now. Jonathan and Monsignor hit the nail on thd head, so to speak, about our Catholic masses being too solemn and unjoyful. We need to have joy in our mass to show that God is not just solely serious. He is joyous, loving & wants us to enjoy the greatest gift He gave us, His Son Jesus. You are both so right, I too truly feel Jesus had a sense of humor. He became man and had to relate to everyone on earth in all emotions and humor has always been a part of man. Great great interview. God bless you both and Monsignor, I hope you have watched all 3 seasons!!!!😊

My husband and I are enjoying this interview very much. We enjoy The Chosen a great deal. There are no throw away lines or moments. Funny and poignant. We are happy to have S1 and S2 on disc, and look forward to S3. 1) Jonathan, I strongly encourage you to learn more about Tridentine Mass before you attend again. Tridentine Mass is complete fulfillment of Jewish worship and sacrifice. It is very regrettable that solemnity, reverence and awareness of time and place are misunderstood as sadness, sternness, lack of joy. Please believe a born, raised novus ordoite who has recently begun attending Tridentine Mass, we are full of joy and love, but to quote "Creating Small Faith Communities" Arthur Baranowski, "We are Catholic, not congregational." 2) Only baptized Catholics in a state of grace may receive Holy Eucharist. It is not loving to endanger another's soul or cause scandal to the Body of Christ: Catholics not in a state of grace cannot receive, non-Catholics who don't believe in the Real Presence cannot receive (1 Cor 11: 26-30). God bless and best of luck to you and the whole Chosen crew.

I just stumbled upon this interview and am disturbed by Jonathan's view that the Holy Eucharistic should be available to anyone at anytime...Catholic not in the state of grace or non Catholic...and even more disturbed that the Monsignor didn't correct him. The Holy Eucharist is a Covenant not a commodity.

Highly recommend Dr T Marshall 'Infiltration', Remnant Newspaper, Church Militant. I have yet to further research the Msgr, but in his interview of Dallas Jenkins asking about if Church law/teaching on married priests were to be changed.. highly suspect. @@marycomstock5793 Thank you Mary! I am an avid follower of your recommended resources. INFILTRATION was eye opening to say the least! I also have similar feelings about the series. I prefer "celebrity" Catholics to be well versed on the tenets of the faith ie. the Catechism, before they come out publicly against Church teachings...and of course to have clergy defend the faith as well. Otherwise, they just seem like cafeteria Catholics and I cannot take them seriously.
th-cam.com/video/FzUX8V1W_e4/w-d-xo.html Not sure if you saw this. @@deborahgriffin2970 how can we keep in touch?! I am not on social media anymore. I did see some of this.( I thought it odd from the PS interview, the Vatican required reference/ introduction from 'celebrity' bishop(s). I don't do Bishop Barron. ) I'll have to watch again for that portion. I would totally get Francis happy with the 'why' attitude considering he is doing everything in his situation (I believe he is pope but I do not like to use the term his power as it is not being used as intended - preservation and handing on of the True Faith ) to remake the Church into masonic brotherhood so why care about such things. Also considering p-mama idol and coin, Luther statue and stamp, and he teaches Judas not in hell. I don't question Jonathan's heart, I've heard a beautiful talk he gave on Divine Mercy and humility, but I'm 59 and catechesis has intentionally been diluted since and because of spirit of VII.
