Because it's in the USA probably and noone there gives a toss about British steam locos. Drape a stars and stripes over the front and you'd have every yank from Texas to New Jersey there recording it on their their smartphone.
I had the joy of seeing all 6 A4's at 'The Great Gathering' at the NRM. All the A4's are 3 cylinder locos and all should have 6 steam cylinder drain pipes, one front and rear for each cylinder. If you look closely at Dominion of Canada, she only has 4 drain pipes - they forgot to attach the 2 pipes from the front and rear of the middle cylinder!
+David Othen Yes, each cylinder on a steam loco has a steam exit pipe at each end of each cylinder to assist drainage when the cylinder is cold and the steam condenses to water. I was surprised that no-one I spoke to at 'The Gathering' spotted the error with Dom. of Canada. All the other 5 locos had 6 pipes each! I suppose that because she can't be steamed it didn't matter that pipes were missing?
+David Othen Almost right, David. Please remember, each cylinder receives steam either side of the piston, hence the need to drain each end of each cylinder. I attach a link to Union of South Africa - www.docbrown.info/docspics/ArchiveSteam/loco60009.htm - you can clearly see in the first 2 pictures, on close scrutiny, drain pipes from each end of the outer cylinder, and one further pipe from one end of the middle cylinder, mirrored on the other side - hence 6 drain pipes in all.
Yes the two locomotives and their tenders all arrived together on the ACL boat. The locomotives will probably leave together when the US customs paperwork is eventually sorted out.
trevor lefler That is Andrew Goodman who owns the moving company - Moveright International. The short rail that joined the two parts of the track moved when the first driving wheel hit it.

David Othen Back in the steam era, there were quite a few British engines that went over. Obviously American ones couldn't go to Britain, they'd demolish the infrastructure XD A streamlined Coronation class (fairly big by british standards) went over once, and there's a picture of her being absolutely dwarfed by some American locomotive alongside. Pity this sorta thing doesn't happen anymore.
This was edited from about 4 hours of video! However with youtube I prefer to allow the viewer to skip the parts he or she wishes. With DVDs I tend to use tighter editing to get as much as possible on to the disc.
In 2019 mallard is going to visit the USA and it will travel Tom national park Florida to northeast and eastest part of Canada and it will travel speeds up to 126MPH and it l have a 190MPH speedmometer to travel up to 126MPH
Karl Berrisford We treat them as well as we can, just because we don't have the money or are even ALLOWED to run them doesn't mean we can't put them in a museum as an example of British Engineering, I don't see any Mistreatment of these locomotives, Nor do you seem to know that they were loaded and unloaded the same exact way on both sides of the pond. It seems you Brits don't want anything to do with our locomotives, and all the ones in good condition are in Museums, If the National Railway Museum over there expressed interest, We would be more than happy to give you a few. And remember, Money is an Object over here... Don't know about over there.

I couldn't agree more there. The A4s have no place in the USA or Canada they were built in Britain and should stay there, they are part of Britain's heritage (or what's left of it).

I wish there was more of a steam thing here in australia, i've seen like 2 steam loco's in like the past 17 years and thats with me living next to the main line between sydney and brisbane. So sad

I personally am happy that we have the General Dwight stateside as very few of our fully streamlined steamers survived into presevation
All this restoration job to end up gathering dust in a storage house... I live 5 minutes away from the museum, trust me, this thing has been either away from the eyes or in a dusty & barely lit storage house for the past 8 years. Why? Because It's technically not a piece of Canadian railway history as it has never seen service in Canada... Well, I suppose it's better than the scrapyard which is where it was originally supposed to end up before the president of the Canadian Railway Historical Association took notice and asked if they could have her.

Since I am an amateur photographer that is not surprising! However the movers (Moveright International) are a very professional organization with several decades of experience world wide in moving locomotives and other heavy equipment.
ThePainTrain765 Moveright International do this type of work all the time! They are often called day or night to re-rail derailed locomotives in Britain and to move locomotives from one heritage railway to another.
+GWR23 Studios She was gifted to the people of Canada just as Dwight D Eisenhower was similarly gifted to the USA. Neither loco will steam again. That still leaves the remaining 4 in the UK, of which 3 are currently able to steam and carry out Main-line work. What's your problem with that?
The yanks couldn't care less about the A4s. They will sit for another 50. years in the back corner rusting away. They should both be returned to UK were they are honoured and taken care off. What a waste o f fine machinery.

I am an American and I think they should be returned to Britain. That is where they were built and ran. They don't have any history in the US. There is an emotional attachment to the A4's in Britain that I think should be respected. It far outweighs everything. The only reason the US has it is because of the name. If I am correct, Eisenhower didn't even attend the naming ceremony, so it probably wasn't very important to him. I would even support restoring it to its original name of "Golden Shuttle". There are fans of British railways in the US, including myself and that is also why I think it should be returned. It comes does to respecting the locomotives history. If someone from the US wants to see it, then they can travel to Britain and see it. Then they can also visit the NRM, heritage railways, and admire the rest of British Rail history. I run OO scale trains and I do have "Golden Shuttle", but I won't own "Eisenhower. It goes well with my "Mallard" and "Osprey"

DoC is in the Railway Museum in Quebec, she's quite the eye catcher there.
