It might be possible to tell the difference with pet scan because from my experience, when the doctor did pet scan on me the first time, they told me that the cysts in me was quite concerning because regular cysts would usually just be round with nothing attached to it, mine was attached by some tissues to my ovaries and therefore a biopsy was needed to further confirm the malignancy. So it seems like they could figure out regular or cancerous cyst by pet scan but definitely always reach out to your PCP best for this type of matter!
