Just to clear this up because lots of people seem misinformed on this story, the money Captain Tom raised in his life went to the NHS, they got the £38 million. After he died, his daughter set up a charity named after him, THAT is where the money they have embezzled has come from. The money Captain Tom raised is safe and has helped a lot of people, his family set up a scam in his name after he died.
As of yet there is no actual proof of any embezzeling and no investigation is at present being done....but what has happened is that some one, or some people have stated his daughter has used donations to build stuff onto her home......and as of yet none of that has been proven to be true by anyone involved.....so at present what is going on is speculation, nothing more....just to point you to actual facts of all this do far.
That first guy was bang on the money. Tom’s daughter’s actions after he died don’t tarnish his fundraising efforts, not in the slightest. It rightfully makes her look like a dick however
Johnson quickly jumped on the captain Tom Moore bandwagon I guess the venture was doomed from then. The entire family going on a free Caribbean holiday always sat uneasy with me
I know his heart was in the right place but the NHS shoud never rely on charity. It should be fully funded by government in the first place. It never sat right with me seeing him raising the money, just like that clapping at the door nonsense 😢
I hear what you are saying but, technically the NHS is not funded by the government, it's funded by the people. Just like the BBC. The government inserts itself into the apparatus of the NHS but, in reality, it serves no useful function. Other than to politicise it for its own ends.
UK, Tories and the other parties should hold their heads in shame for encouraging an old guy to potentially walk his way to a heart attack just for the optics.
He actually died of C19 after the tax payer paid for his dream trip to Jamaica during lockdown. The whole family went on a Caribbean holiday in fact at our expense while they plotted to raid the £25M donated
Tom's daughter obviously used him as a prop from the beginning. It was so obvious that she wanted the glory and used her Dad as a tool. Many of those that supported him and regard him as a hero, will continue to support MP's continuously damaging the NHS. They can't correlate that their hero was needed because of THEM.
@TheRedHand101the money he raised went directly to the NHS, they earned the £38mil. His daughter set up a foundation in his name after he died, that is where she has taken the money from.
If you ever wanted to see what a facial expression saying “KERCHING 💰” looks like, just look that photograph of his daughter realising she’s just won the lottery!
Captain Tom inspired me. Sad that his family could not be as "giving" as their parent! The daughter remains accountable for HER actions, but I will continue to cherish the effort that Captain Tom put into raising money for Health Care in the UK!
Don’t be foolish…the NHS must be funded by everyone paying taxes, not by donations. If you want to raise funds for charities then that is fine but the NHS should not rely ever on it. Beware UK! Preserve your healthcare system before you cannot afford even the most basic help as we have here in the US.
"We don't do charity in Germany. We pay taxes. Charity is just a failure of government's responsibilities!" - Henning Wehn, German Comedian (yes, they do exist and he's very funny). Captain Tom was amazing and you have to wonder who stood by and allowed his family to divert his hard won charity funds to personal luxury and never thought to say 'Whoa Nelly! That is seriously dodgy! At best stupid, at worst corrupt! The whole world is watching. Be smart!'. As per the above quote the NHS only needs charity because the government are stealing the money we pay in taxes and shares it out amongst themselves and their friends. The Moore family circle couldn't have done more to disrespect his memory than to mirror the behaviour that made Captain Tom's walk necessary in the first place. As many have said, we shouldn't need people in their 90s to raise money for our NHS (and Tom was only the most famous among several). And we sure as hell don't need people to steal that money after it's been raised. Captain Tom will always be remembered fondly for his service to this country and for his service to the NHS in both raising awareness and funds. He can rest in peace. Others may not.

There is nothing wrong with paying managers of state institutions high salaries, as long as they are worth every penny. A state institution can run as well, or even better, as a private company with an excellent CEO. If that costs a bit more, that’s fine. As long as she/he does the job well and make everything function at its best.

It's sad but a lot of charities are like that with only a small percentage of the money you pay going to the actual charity. My brother got offered a job with Cancer Research going door to door, well until he realised how much of the donations he would get keep as payment. It made him feel so sick that he refused the job.
I worked as a voluntary sales assistant for Cancer Research for several years & I didn't even get my travel expenses rembursed. If people knew how little of their contributions actually get spent on the big charities fund raising cause, after all the money the big bosses get paid, fund raising drives, advertising etc etc, they wouldn't be so eager to give them their money. Main reason I like charity shops is, is that they recycle peoples unwanted possessions, instead of them being thrown away.
