This is supposed to be a reverent and special ceremony; secret to all those who do not intend to become members. Going through the ritual is supposed to be an impressive and distinguished ceremony. It is not to be recorded in any fashion. Having this video on TH-cam is border line violation of Grand Lodge Statutes. The Order of Elks is an all American organization, dedicated to God, country, our kids and our veterans. Please respect it.

My husband is a veteran and ge never received a cent from any organization. Sometimes i see advertisement on tv about buy ??? and you are helping a veteran. Totally false. I think all donations go to scam. We requested to be elks, but it cost 100 dollars for membership and is necessary to be recommended by an elk. They dont care to help veterans. There are not free food for vets at elks. No discount on membership for veterans.
If you saw an advertisement on TV for or about the Elks It was a scam. The Elks do not advertise on TV nor do they need to. They Elks Do care about and the Veterans and do several things in their communities and nationally to supports veterans and veterans services. Veterans charity is the Elks number one charitable focus, In fact the Elks Organization built the first field hospital during world war one and the elks started what is today known an the GI dill. One of the Elks national motto's is as long as there are veterans they will never be forgotten. it is true there is a member ship fee, there is a discount offered once and some times twice a year to any american citizen. With the privilege of membership you you will be a member of the national organization and will be entitled to all of its rights and privileges at any Elks lodge in the united states and it's territories.
We as Elks DO take care about our Veterans. We also support our community. Just our lodge has donated over 4 million dollars since we opened in the 1800 hundreds. While the dues are unique to every lodge, that depends on the overhead and assorted costs to maintain and operate the lodge. I encourage you to do some research. We are a good bunch. The video you just saw is basically for competition within the order. The primary reason is to insure that the officers are delivering the ritual correctly. I have committed to memory 5 of the major chairs,, (parts). It is no small endeavor to do so. The Elks were started by a group of theater actors in the 1800s. One of their fellow actors came across hard times. The group helped him and decided the idea should be shared with others. I hope this helps.
@Brad Morrison He did miss speak. While we didn't "start the GI bill" we were the catalyst to it. We started a program prior, and a lot was borrowed from the Elks to create the GI bill. It is very well documented.
