TW: self-harm the moment Steven thinks he's slamming White Diamond's head on the pillar and then we cut back to his head recoiling from a very destroyed pillar hits really hard compared to when I first watched it, speaking as someone who's tried used slamming my head as a method of self harm. *end of warning* Also, fun fact: each of the diamond's new abilities represent a different type of treatment for mental illness; Yellow = physical change like exercise, Blue = drugs like cannabis, and White = therapy; the only reason it doesn''t work for Steven is because he's witholding important information and White is just the worst possible therapist he could have.
Watching this on first airing simply hit different when you got the tense cliffhanger of Everything’s Fine and instantly it slam cut to a commercial for Frosted Flakes with a voice chanting “Bring out the tiger… the mighty mighty tiger-“ Absolute wild tone shift, 10/10 viewing experience.
One detail I love that's not explicitly explained by the show itself is the fact that this new concept they introduce of the Diamonds' unique powers working in reverse is what we've seen Steven experiencing this whole time. What was Rose known for? Healing. What's the opposite of healing? /Harm/. A lot of people like to say that Rose was a bad person, because of all the stuff we learned she did as Pink Diamond. But when Volleyball references her destructive powers, Pearl has no idea what she's talking about. So as flawed as Pink/Rose was, she MUST have done some of the introspection and growth that we've seen the other Diamonds do here in Future, if she was able to keep that destructive side of hers in check so completely.
for white diamonds new ability I think its implied that she can basically feel the thoughts & emotions of those whom control her. like after spinel she said "what fun" implying white diamonds felt how much fun spinel was having controlling her.and after Steven she was horrified as if she felt the very negative thought & emotions Steven felt.
Well White could always see their thoughts. This new power is probably her backdoor into their emotions, the same way dreams were Steven’s backdoor into people’s thoughts (and Lars’ body once)
I love how the Diamonds aren't forgiven but redeemed Which might sound similar but actually is more interesting when you think about it They're given the opportunity to change their ways and they even try fixing their damages and help people. I mean it's kinda the only way to stop Overpowered Alien Dictators it's not like a fight is gonna stop them So this is the next best thing
Yessss, agreed- though I am a bit more partial to the term “atonement” these days for what the Diamonds go through, given “redeemed” has this connotation in culture lately where it is something that is Earned rather than progressively worked towards
the people who suffer the most sometimes are the ones who define their identity as the person who can solve everyone else's problem. while they put out so much good, they can do so at such a detriment to themselves that their fall is that much more shocking and tragic. I love they realized and showed Steven dealing with this outcome.
commenting just to say i love yalls reactions!! the two of you are both so understanding and insightful when it comes to the characters and their struggles- it’s so satisfying to see
The very notable thing about the sequence where Steven’s controlling White Diamond that I find a lot of the fanbase entirely misses is that this scene was NOT showing a near miss of Steven shattering White. White was in no bodily threat. With where White was standing the entire time, there was no pillar in the area at all, first off… the idea was “play-acted” in a sort of mindscape, and in fact engaging with the thought in the first place directly hurts *Steven,* not White. Not only that, but Steven describes this moment as experiencing “vengeful thoughts” and “having a not-so-nice thought or two about- y’know- slamming White Diamond’s head through a pillar.” Keyword: THOUGHT. If this were intended by the writers as a real, genuine attempt, there wouldn’t be such a focus on describing and depicting this as an intrusive thought. But yeah, I’ve seen some watch this scene and go “uh oh he’s on a shattering spree now” and I think this take misses a lot of the complexity of what’s going on in his head. In my opinion the point of this scene coming after he really DOES shatter Jasper is to showcase how not only does he have the physical capability to shatter, but he’s experienced disturbing Thoughts about shattering, too. Like, put yourself in Steven’s shoes… one accidental shattering in a spar? Horrible. Dreadful. He feels like shit over this. But it was an accident, yeah? So he just needs to learn to control this power. There’s still something he can actively do to Fix this. But then you add in the scene with White… and his situation suddenly gets so much worse in his mind’s eye. Because now he’s having active THOUGHTS about hurting people, so maybe it CAN’T be fixed, not like he fixes everything else. Maybe… it’s just him. Maybe HE’S what’s wrong. Maybe he’s been a horrific fraud this entire time and has been pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes. Maybe HE’S the monster.
OMG I am behind I didn't know you were doing lower decks!!!!!!!!!!!!! **incoherent screaming** Give LD a season to settle, it is Trek after all XD It's not a Star Trek parody, it is damn good Trek
I like the official sinopses for episodes 18 and 19. They are, respectively, "Steven insists that everything is fine" and "Everything is not fine".

Blue Diamond discovered ✨WEED✨

I was never much of a Yellow fan until now. Hearing the softness and peace in her voice when she says "Watch this".
Oh and Blue's song! My heart!
