Some times the ideas take a while to mature and sink in. If you blast through the books, you miss it.

Im not enjoying the Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad. I will ptobably DNF it. I cant wait to hear what you think of Heart of Darkness to know if I should give him another chance.
50 is indeed alot. And I'm excited for you to read Anna K. Just such a massive story and I can assure you it's extra engaging. FWIW, I've read 4 Conrad (well, I DNF'd _Nostromo_ ). I think I like _The Secret Agent_ the best. _The Heart of Darkness_ is an important work, but not 'fun'. People don't praise _1984_ for being a literary masterpiece, or the plot, it's more about the ideas. _The Heart of Darkness_ is rather like that. FWIW, I have never recommended _The Heart of Darkness_ or Joseph Conrad to anyone. I think it is pretty niche. People smarter than me say he is a good writer, but I don't feel it. (and they also say cauliflower is good for you). You can keep your Conrad and cauliflower, thank you, but no.
About DNFs. Consider this. You read 50 books this year. If you keep that pace for a decade, you will have read 500 books. By the time you are 60, you will have read only 2000 books. I've heard that they publish something like a million books a year. Given the past and the future, you will not even be able to read a 10th of one percent of all books. You should not waste time on books you do not enjoy. Life is too short; move on. Or, consider a "soft DNF" and set it aside for 10+ years. You will grow as a reader, and certainly grow as a person. Your tastes will change. You might just be reading it at the wrong time. Don't force it. Come back to it, if you choose, but don't waste your time.
Jon, not sure if you know but _Little Women_ is middle grade - pre-YA and even pre-teen, so it is a REALLY easy read. 500 pages will fly by.
