Altaf, thank you so much. We cherish what you post. It means a lot to us. This video is a bit difficult to follow for people whose memories predate the 80s. I will need to watch multiple times to really relate to my old times. And you turn right going towards Tanganyika Library. I was thinking the straight way was towards Riddoch Motors. But still I remember the area but of course so much is new. On the left as you walk was the offices of the sole National newspaper - Daily News where on occasion I personally delivered Tanzania Olympic boxing coach Nizar Walji's press release. He used to train boxer Titus Simba who got real close to reaching the top at the Olympics. Pardon me but I cherish adding my little snippets of my memories of the time. Please keep up the good work. Only you can genuinely nurture our nostalgia
Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are right - the road next to Tanganyika Motors building leads to Riddock Motors, passing by the old Mawenzi Hotel building, which now hosts Holiday Inn Hotel. The Daily News building is brought down and in its place there is a new building hosting various offices.
Salam Altaf bhai Your videos reminds me of the times when I was there, Ali Bhai store, Sulaiman Jee bldg and so much more that you show. Keep up brother
Thank you so much for sharing! Was really hoping you continued on Zanaki and India Street. Popular Bookshop, telephone house, Bohora Mosque, Fashion Fabrics are few places I'd love to see if possible.
Hi Altaf bhai thank you so much for sharing this video. Tears are just flowing seeing all this. So much has changed. I left Dar in 1978. Altaf bhai plz do a walk also from Odeon roundabout to Where Cameo Cinema used to be. Plz go down the side street before Cinema where Ishnashri wedding hall is. Turn right from there where Bahadur Bawa Highway School. Of motoring used to be plzzzz 🙏🙏🙏🙏
My father's shop Green Light Studio used to be right to A T shop. He also had another shop directly opposite Odeon Cinema and Cinex on Independence Avenue as it used to be called then. I guess Drive In Cinema also gone which is where I saw Sholay 😊 Walking videos are so much better. City Sweet Centre very close to my house in East London
Once again ALTAF DAYA has come up with a beautiful video capturing the present day DSM and recalling its past. In particular he has recorded the ITHNASHRIi KABRASRASTAN (cemetery) solemnly with a heartfelt commentary. Also his visit to HADI Restaurant along with his friends provides humorous side to DSM'S way of life and its eating habits. This video's visuals to an extent revitalize my DSM THROUGH CHANGING TIMES write up. An interesting video for old timers to reminisce yesteryear DSM and compare it to its current scenario. Thanks Altaf.
Thank You so much for your note. Really Appreciate it. Just trying whenever I can, to revive some memories of old Dar. The videos are straight from the heart, no editing, no music or special effects.... just straight from the heart and raw!
@@AltafDaya Very true. Neither editing nor music but the effect remains, it touches your heart. Well done, keep it up. Not joking or flattering but I must say you've the makings of a good film Director.
There used to be MOTEL AGIP, and also a bldg with egg shaped windows close to the monument, if you can please also cover that. Best wishes from Perth, Ali Mujtaba
Jambo Bwana... Kemcho Altaf !! Thank you - Ahsante Sana - Shukriya. Lovely & a very interesting video, showing the various landmarks on this walk. I, personally am not frm Dsm (formerly of Tanga), though visited Dsm often enough in my teenage student years. By the way, are you the same Altaf Daya, now living in London with your family?? Keep up the good work Kwaheri for now. Kind Regards Shiraz Bhanji (Sona) PS: how about a walk from the IPS Building to Upanga ??? Or the IPS Building to Kariakoo ?? My good friend, actually classmate (from Karimjee Secondary School days, in Tanga) and now living in Kariakoo - does a daily walk to the city centre, passing the Darkhana (main Jamatkhana of the Ismaili Community).
Helloooooo!!! My aunt, uncle and cousins used to live in Tanga so I came there a couple of times for holiday. They are now in Toronto (Zahur and Salim Bhanji). Walking those paths may not be possible this time as very busy and also it may not be very safe/comfortable to carry my phone in such crowded areas. Will try to record by car if I can.
Altaf you bring back my memory its changed alot.we used to live near upanga jamat khana then moved behind tpdf
Altaf, thank you for sharing. Have a nice trip.

Hey....will try but sometimes they don't allow to shoot videos as its a private property etc
Amazing video. Opposite Purnima was a store called deluxe store. They use to sell toys and later was changed to groceries and drinks store
I vividly remember that but not 100% sure.

What is the name of the other hotel you mentioned bedsides Sleep-Inn. Thank you.
To stay in town, some of the decent places are Sleep Inn, Saphire, Nikko Towers, Urban Rose and Tanzanite Suites.
Please share approx rates. ❤❤❤
Please go through their specific websites but they range from $50 to $100 per night I think. I am not sure about exact rates
Really enjoy watching all your videos. Fantastic!!!
Thank you 😊
