This song gives me several emotions, by hearing the piece without looking up the composer I would of thought a debussy contemporary or something like that. You made me feel very perplex and this is interesting !
Thank you! Quite close as this was written in 1932. Price infused elements from African-American spirituals, and jazz was very much popular in American cities at the time, so there are melodic patterns and harmonic colours here that are fascinating. At the same time, there's the expected Romantic 'fantasy'. She wrote three other Fantasie nègres, I look forward to learning and performing them in the future. You might enjoy her symphonies too, they're outstanding works and now getting performed much more. :)
So lovely to hear you play this - beautiful performance!
Thank you Samantha! It means a lot coming from you 😊
Nice late night drop 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I've never seen this one published.
Schirmer published it in 2020/21, along with Nos. 3 and 4 - www.wisemusicclassical.com/work/60924/Fantasie-negre-No-2-in-G-Minor--Florence-Price/
Thank You.

Could you please share me the score if you don’t mind? I really love this piece. Thank you
It’s published by Schirmer, hope that helps! I’m afraid I can’t send it to you though because of copyright
What would be your comment on the piece and its composer ?
