Over the years I built this skill with this method. You will feel lot of weight on your arms, incredible instability and pressure in your shoulders, and even in your biceps if you turn the rings. But it's worth it! Most calistenics guys will not train for this, while it's the first or second skill a gymnast will learn on rings.

better if you don't. there's not really any good way to do it on the low rings so your best bet is to improve your handstand control first and use the straps when necessary
