And of course the FIRST image that pops up is actually of mistletoe.

Man, whatever happened to Dexter in the Pokemon anime? Did they decide that a sentient and selfaware AI was too weird in a show about pocket monsters?
In Japanese, Dexter was your average pokedex; 4kids were the ones who decided to give him some sass, and the modern dubbing company isn't nearly as fun with their dialogue as 4kids used to be. Sun and Moon did introduce a proper sentient pokedex, though, for better or worse.
@@dankwaifu2093 The modern dubbers also actually, y'know, DUB scripts though, so hey, it evens out.
@@ElFreakinCid Eh. I'm not saying TPCi's dub is awful or anything, but I'm also not congratulating them just for putting English episodes out. They don't get any awards just for showing up, especially since it's because of their cost cutting measures that 4kids couldn't continue their dub. Any studio can dub a show, but that doesn't mean I'll enjoy their writing or acting. And if I don't, then what's the point? Might as well switch to the original audio and put on subtitles.
There were definitely times where 4kids could've stood to be truer to the Japanese script, but for the most part, I feel like their changes (to the show, at least) weren't really that egregious. They were charming and fun. I can't really say that TPCi's more accurate scripts even out exactly (especially when some of their own writing quirks, like the Rocket's dialogue, grates on me). I guess it just depends on what you value more.

Speaking of very unusual Pokémon merchandise, I was randomly looking around a DVD store and found a book called "Pikachu Meets the Press - A Pokémon Newspaper Strip Collection". It's a collection of Pokémon comic strips that were published between 2000 and 2001 in American Newspapers. They're non-canon, obviously, but I had to pick it up. I don't know if it's noteworthy that such comic strips exist, but it's quite interesting.

I shipped Ash and Misty SO HARD when I watched Pokémon. I fell even further down the Pokeshipping rabbithole when I discovered fanfiction.net. 😂 I still ship them. I love their chemistry and dynamic and the playful flirtatious arguing. (I love couples who fight. Idk why haha). And they will always be special to me because they were my first ever OTP and journey into shipping in general.

Oh my god I still to this day have this album. It was the first Pokemon thing I owned actually. My parents didn't allow me to watch the anime or get the games because it took me a while to distinguish fantasy from reality and I asked my grandma to buy it for me, and she did, much to my parents' chagrin. Once my parents thought it over, they realized that I knew it wasn't all real, and thought it might give me something new to draw at that age, so they let me get immersed in the franchise and it still goes on to this day. Looking back, this is TERRIBLE but if it wasn't for the album, I probably would've never gotten into Pokemon or developed as an artist in the way that I have.
