I like the crunch and sounds cool but there's a bit too much wooliness on the chugs, but I guess it's not designed to be a murder machine like an EVH etc
I just got the JEL-50 amp and planning to place an order for the Mr. Scary Mod. I just wanna ask you did you get the mod in Standard or Reverse Wiring? I just wanna know which wiring option is compatible with the amp before placing an order. Thanks so much in advance.
Question completely unrelated to this video, I was wondering what your boost pedal recommendations are for the JP-2C? I remember the Mud Killer, I thought you had another one you liked as well? I just can’t seem to find the video on your channel. Thanks!
Good question. The JP , because of its versatility will work with many od Pedals. Adjust the Tone stack accordingly, and it'll work with just about anything. Try the Odd Box, grid slammer and the precision drive
I’d like to see you do a deep dive into Boss Katana Artist Tone Studio. Mostly because I just bought one. Use only the Boost provided in the amp.. Make it chug!! Then get to the choppA…!
@@TONEWARSgearshow Hey I love your channel. And Sundays you go live and interact with the people. That’s super awesome. You showed me how to set up distortion the right way. Level up Gain down. Get some🤘🏽
I have one of these in my Friedman JJ100 and it's awesome. And no it is not too much. Many amps these days come with 5 12ax7s...are they too much? The sat is just a clipping diode I am pretty sure so what it does is chop the peak amplitude of the wave and causes more "saturation" and the resulting drop in volume which is really just more clipping. It's not working the output tubes anymore than before...it's actually working them less. But yeah, this amp, just like my PT20, is on the borderline of not enough when playing with a drummer. It's plenty loud for home though, but can be a little flubby with a 4x12 if the volume is up too much...it collapses on itself I guess. Nature of the beast and it is what it is. Throw this mod in a 100 watt head and find out...you will be very happy. It's amazing in my jj100 and my smallbox 50.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Bought one, sounds great, heat stays with it for longer than my other tube amps, but probably not an issue. Actually it doesn't sound great, it sounds amazing and I think my first thought when playing it at home was "Gawd DAMN!!!!!!"
You can use this mod on any brand of amplifier as long as it has a cathode follower in it. Feel free to go to their website and see a list of amplifiers that are compatible with this mod.
Nice video my man. I'm a bedroom player that has a friedman pick taco V1 with the Mr Scary mod in it. It sounds great but I've been eyeing the JEL 20 amp. I love metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, and Anthrax. But I also love my scorpions, ozzy, ratt, and dokken tone. Is this amp that amp that can do both on what I'm searching? Again just a bedroom player. Thanks.
I'm going to have Mr. Scary Mod develop a set for My Helix. You will fear the tone I create when I can mod my Helix. And once you are done fearing my tone you will come to love my tone. Fear then love.
Dude…learn how to represent the product you’re using properly, and people won’t call you out on your absolute insistence on using more gain than the human ear can process. You saying “I use the same tone for leads and rhythm doesn’t explain/excuse ANY-thing. It just tells us how lazy, and one-dimensional you are….. Just dial the gain back for 2min of the video, WTF?! The irony that is completely lost on this knuckle-dragger is that you won’t hear George Lynch, or Jake E. Lee dialing up a single tone used on this video. And, he does that with every piece of gear he “demo’s”. Want to play death metal, fine…but at least dial up tones the amp was designed for. Or, do what Ola does (and he’s the ONLY one who does it) and change your title up to let players know how -one dimensional you are- this is solely a death metal demo with this gear. Even when he tried to play some EVH, he had twice the amount of gain dialed in than necessary, because his starting paint with gain is at 12. And, in a very small amount of defense to him, it’s not just him, it’s par for the course of TH-cam, these days. But, I digress…. For the people buying this amp (or considering ANY of the EVO mods) for the tones the products were actually designed for, both products are absolutely brilliant. I’m using the Evo on a Little Sister, and it’s classic Hard Rock bliss, while still keeping the warmth of the clean. But, that aside, those Hot Mod’s make your pushed plexi crunch, and “super-crunch” tones absolutely majestic. It doesn’t really add gain as much as it tightens it up, and makes the gain texture more percussive, and punchy….which are the exact words you’re looking for when using this particular gear as intended. If you’re beating on a 7-string guitar down-tuned to the key of “rotting flesh”, with a jack hammer, then none of these products apply. By a Boogie, and 12 of your favorite “chug” pedals, find your favorite branch to swing from, and be done with it. Or, better yet (and infinitely more affordable) play keyboards where you can create any death-tone you want that far exceed how low you can tune a guitar, or how much gain an amp can achieve. He’s literally playing Panama using a tone dialed in for death metal…🤦♂️. Dave at Legendary Tones is not only a genius, but a GREAT guy, and will go above and beyond for you, if you’re looking for those qualities in your Marshall-esq circuits.
Yeah I'd say you hit the sweet spot at 7:45. The clarity came back but was still full and aggressive at the same time. 🤘🤘🤘
LOL HAHAA killer video bro needed the morning laugh. Sounds pretty sick
Saw that friedman has a jel ir-x coming out
Where did you hear or see about a IRX JEL PEDAL?
@@MKRISING75 It was on Instagram!
I agree. My JEL 20 benefits with the Mr.Scary in it as well.
Have one in my Badlander . Game changer. 🤘🏻
Wow. Imagine the Mr Scary in a JJ Jr. Better yet, a JJ 100. ToneX captures coming?!?! Great stuff, as always, Jarrod.
Just put it in my JJ-100.

Nice video, David is the best at Legendary Tones. I made a video of the Mr Scary with the 100 watt JEL 100. Love it in there
SEE YOU AT THE PARTY RICHTER!!!!!!
Haha, not if I see you first !
Hahaha
Love it !!

I didn't know that the mr scary mod could work on the jel 20. Nice mojo.

How about some JEL20 kemper profiles. With Mr. Scary and without.

Thanks for commenting and for the suggestion. I'll see what I can do. I hope Motor City Guitar has one that I can use for a demo.

Does the JEL20 have any ventilation? Looks like a mostly sealed box. Excessive heat kills all electronics
Yes it does, in the back.

Now I wonder if it works with the dirt too😎
We will definitely find out soon.
Is this mod jel specific or is the mr scary mod for sale for marshall amps the right one?

That does sound like a tone that will win a Mr. Olympia. Should I be concerned it will produce a son out of my marriage 😂?
Does it add any noise ?
Honestly, not really much noise is added at all. I was surprised

Dude loves chug/pinch harmonic combo. Every amp sounds the same. Chug/pinch. Wow.
