Very well illustrated. I appreciate that you offer a solution which doesn't require complete disassembly - something not everyone can tackle.
My 1961 Motorola Stereo had that problem in 1972. My grandfather helped me tear the whole thing apart, clean the seized parts and lubricate it.
It ran until the late 1990s when that, now ancient, grease locked up. Took it apart with my son, cleaned it, lubricated it with then totally, outrageously expensive synthetic lubricants.
It's still running, for goodness sake, in 2023. I recapped the amp (that three-channel design was cool!) back in the 90's. Probably going to be time to do that the next time a tube fails, they pushed them pretty hard. Glad they stuck to 12ax7 and 6l5 tubes, still cheap and available.

Yes this is one of the most common problems with these VM changers along with the platter rubber wheel turning to plastic.

I fixed that issue too. Those VM in both Curtis Mathews and Zenith. It wouldn't trip, it wouldn't self shut off.

      Yep simple fix.

Hi, I have a zenith I have had since I was 15 it means a lot to me. Very sentimental. The radio works, but the turn table stopped working. I have had some local guys look at it but they cannot fix. Wondering if you can help?

Due to the new world we now live in shipping both ways would be costly, if you can't find someone local contact me,

I have a Phillips from 1957, the pieces are not seized, but does not complete the cylce when i hit start or reject, unless i move the platter with my hand, idk if it's the idler wheel or anything else, it runs at correct speed but it looks like doesn't have enough force to complete the cylce

Maybe you’ll be able to help me. I have a similar model. It’s a zenith mn2604 and the turntable won’t turn at all. The system powers on but the reject doesn’t work and the table won’t turn. Any advice? Thanks

usually, the motors are so gummed up with dried grease is the most common problem.

Ray, thanks so much for your video. Would I have to take the turntable out to get to that trip lever or can it be accessed from underneath and through the back?

Sure thing, it kind of depends on what model console your working on, there easy enough to remove, just flip the two clips underneath and disconnect the connectors, take a pic or video in case you forget where things go.

@@rays744 it's a 1967 Zenith with the 3 movable louvers on each end covering the speakers. very common but worth the restoration. I acts like it wants to play but drops the records and then turns itself off.

@@deanhenderson7940 Yep that's going to be your problem, your tone arm lifts up, record drops, then tone arm sets itself back down on the rest and then turns off, it's that pawl lever frozen, hit it with WD-40 and work it back n forth on top and bottom till loose and moves freely.
