I'm fine with spider magic from the spider totem. I'm not fine with the Dr. Strange bs. He doesn't just use a single hand pose. Just look at the examples in this video.

1:16 I have always found Noir a really fascinating character, being that Spider-Man a great tribute to the dark protagonists of the film noir era. I don't know why, but I imagine him having a hobby of eating unheated beans and sugar cubes and using the civil identity of a guy who spends all day on the street with a sign that says "The End is Near"
Idk I always liked Spider-Man the most as a character that was grounded in the idea of “ anyone can be Spider-Man “ making him anything more than a street level hero looking out for the little guys takes away the point of Spider-Man for me.. While it’s awesome to see him come so far over his publication and join the fantastic 4 and avengers and such.. making him a mage would feel overly unnecessary.. he wasn’t ever designed with that in mind.. why fix what isn’t broken?
Spider-Man (616) has pretty much been my favorite fictional character since I was a child. While I definately appreciate his street level appeal (as I'm not really a fan of when characters get all OP) most of the appeal for Spider-Man for me came from who Peter Parker is and the stories they told with the two. Peter/Spidey is a guy who is a down on his luck guy who is often too nice for his own good and always makes the sacrifice play no matter what. He lives to die for those he loves and has tragedy after tragedy to show for it and somehow still finds it in him to try and make everyone else smile as he copes. Nothing Marvel can do to his powers will change that about the character and it's actually nice to see the possibility of a power upgrade so he isn't always sidelined in these big events Marvel is so keen on having lately.

Like the symbiote suit that he even loved so much he designed a spandex suit after the symbiote! That way you can have your cake and eat it too without shoe horning a magic mcguffin x machina in there and just painting the spider people landscape with a giant magic brush now. My issue becomes if you introduce magic to the spider people it becomes a crutch to why Spider-Man / women will always win “ cuz magic “ and what I love about Peter more than say batman or such other main faces of the comic industry is nobody ever says “ he wins because he’s Spider-Man “ he doesn’t have that plot armor levels of power at least not as much as like Batman as I mentioned. He relies on all his intuition and some degree spider sense and battle skills he’s learned and we’ve watched him learn. To give him magic now feels like they just want to do a bit of lazy writing for awhile and kick their feet up and when someone asks “ how’d he live this or that “ they’ll say “well he’s magic now so that’s how!”
I agree but there's issue with that logic. 1) Spiderman is not Daredevil, he never was street level only. He was meant to be someone with incredible feats well beyond normal mortals even as a teen who would be even more capable as an adult, yet WANTED to be our friendly neighborhood spiderman, because being a helpful neighbor is something anyone can do to some extent, and he relates to the everyday person more then a giant businessman like Tony Stark or a peerless public figure like Captain America. Even from the beginning, the Fantastic 4, and slowly the X men and Avengers as well, realized that Spiderman's skill could put them to shame for a short period of time. Its his choices that make the friendly neighborhood Spider-man, not his incredible untapped powers. 2) Even before he ever met Ezekial and found out he was a spider-totem, that his powers were a paradoxal mix of being the radioactive spiderman and magical spider powers....Spider-man figured out early on that some of his powers were not fully routed in science. His 'spider-sense' had nothing to do with a spider's scientific ability to sense vibrations and act accordingly. Heck, Kaine who had enhanced powers as a trade off for being painfully mutated, could actually get visions of the future beyond a few seconds. Spider-man knew his spider-sense was supernatural, but decided to never explore it since he had enough on his plate, he didn't want to think about it too much and open up a wasp's nest of magical villains. (but he got the Inheritors and Mephisto anyway) His ability to lose his powers during times where he felt he didn't want them happened many times in the comics, shows and movies, leaning toward the idea that spider-man's powers were routed to his will. Biological powers don't care what your will wants, but magic does. 3) In an alternate timeline, Symbiote Spider--Man: Alien Reality #3, Strange is forced to test Peter's skill with magic to have Peter learn magic within a magically condensed year, skill which already proved to be very existent when Peter casted an incomplete spell and nearly reversed time to save Aunt May before One More Day. Strange did this because his powers were taken away but not his knowledge, and only Spiderman and Strange were outside Mordo's spell. Apparently, his ability to use offensive and complex magic was limited, and not as useful as his natural fighting abilities, but Strange realized that teaching him as much defensive magic as possible while still having him fight like Spider-man would be the perfect match for his spider sense. While not invincible obviously, this would allow him to have reasonable defense against overpowered, undetectable psychic or magical attacks at least enough to survive. Similar to how Dr. Doom has resistance to magic with his magical knowledge. In other words, it didn't make him overpowered, it just made him another area where he was ready for anything to a certain extent. Should Spider-man have some defensive magic up his sleeve for emergency? It wouldn't be the worse thing if he has to keep on fighting life force absorbing vampires. Maybe he can use it to undo the damage to his brother/clone Ben, who now has spider sense powers that magically attack opponents offensively. If Spider-man really wants to be ACTUALLY OP, he can just become one with the Enigma Force again. Magic is nothing compared to Cosmic Spider Man.
Didn't see it when I first saw it, but it's definitely there. Darken out the web's, add a red cape & bang. Spidey's mask has clearly inspired other's; Deadpool being one of the most obvious. And Todd McFarland was drawing Amazing Spider-MAN before he debuted Spawn.
I'm assuming people aren't talking about it because they keep acting like this Totem spider stuff is really big but it only matters or becomes relevant when its Morlun or spidervers shenanigans and then its nonexistent somehow again.
I seriously doubt this is ever going to be brought up again. It's not a bad concept, but i don't see it catching on without Slott writing a Spider book.
Things like this have been done countless times, and they often just nice little contained story elements. The point was literally to serve this specific story. Someone may bring it up again, soon or decades from now, but it wasn't meant to turn 616 Spider-Man into an actual mage on par with Strange. If anything it served to give Araña some differentiation from the typical Spider-person formula of: sticks to walls, shoots webs, senses danger, is strong and agile. Miles has his invisibility and shock Jessica has her gliding and shock Julia has her future sight Araña with sorcery makes sense from that regard (and tracks with her history) What people may confuse is that just because there's magic based on spider totem energy that it is accessible in the same way. Let's keep in mind that having Spider-powers to begin with is a mix of science and mysticism already. Magic is considered just another set of extra-dimensional energy sources bundled under configured spells, curses, charms, enchantments, etc. and in that regard, Spidey himself is technically already possibly as mystical as he's going to get. Having a glimpse of a universe where he picks up Strange's path is merely food for the occasional alternative take (usually as part of a parallel universe, or temporary change to his power). ...remember when Spider-Man was trained by Shang Chi to use spider kung fu? Some may, and ever so often it gets referenced, but it wasn't meant to make him on par with Shang, Fist, BP, etc. then outclass them with spider powers topping the martial arts.

After reading Venom 18 I am gonna make a guess and say that somehow Spider Man is gonna be the Enigma Force incarnate. Makes sense given that Cosmic Spider Man is seemingly the only version that gets to keep the Enigma Force indefinitely. Is Eddie is the King in Black who exist below as a Venomverse, while the infinite version of Spider Man exist above as the Spiderverse.

I don't know what to even think of Spider-Man after everything that happened during Spider-Man No Way Home where everything feels messed up as Scarlet_Witch using her Hex on Westview. Damage Control don't remember the interrogation with Peter but remember attacking Spider-Man for a huge misunderstanding. Also Spider-Man is clearly limited to whenever Sony let Disney use him in the MCU since he wasn't featured in Avengers Con during the Miss Marvel Disney Plus show despite the fact that he fought against Thanos on his home planet and getting the Nanotechnology Infinity Gauntlet away from him along with the fact that he stopped appearing in the Marvel Studios intro. I feel like this has been building for a while. Spidey has always been pretty capable against magic wielding opponents. And plus it explains why he was able to keep Strange from getting the box in No Way Home when he was pushed into astral form.
Blew my mind about the doctor strange finger signs? No, I noticed that in a Spider-Man animated series doctor strange action figure when I was 5 or some odd years old. I had never even heard of doctor strange outside of Spider-Man until legit decades later. Called it!! Woo!

My first thought was like "Oh hell no! More crap!?! Already Norman Osborne -shades of Lex Luthor - is now a nice guy(?!?) that Peter easily trusts(?!??), let alone works for (?!?!?). Now Morlun's going to be an ally too?!? Maybe they can hang w/ Edde Brock's Venom? AND Dr. Strange's magic gets retro-crap-co opted?" But, as I thought about it, there've been hints over the years of Spider-Man's magical potential (which does make more sense than him teaming up with Osborn)... I think in the Wand of Watomb story seen here, Dr. Strange temporarily tranfered his magic to Spider-Man, impressed by how he adapted to it. At another point (don't remember where or when)after Spidey helped him repel some C'thulu-esque entity (Shuma-Gorath?); Strange commented that Spidey had the potential to make a fairly considerable sorcerer. but Spidey laughed it off. Sometime later, during an (apparently?) unrelated meeting, Spidey asked Strange if he's ever noticed the similarity of their hand gestures. The way Doc hesitantly says like "yes ..." , and drops it always left me thinking maybe (the writer was hinting) there was something else Doc decided not to say. I was actually thinking of it a few days before I even heard about, let alone read, this comic. And let's not forget the Anansi factor. I'd just hate to see this retro-diminishing/co-opting Strange's magic. Especialy if the potential for buffs will be ignored like the Way of The Spider martial art; which Spidey said he "forgot about". A Spider-Man story w/ possible long term implications on Dr. Strange's magic shouldn't be inconsequential to Spidey's own lore.
He’s a playable character in the contest of champions mobile game. Also maybe that why in the movie Peter could control his astral self(not his spider sense) and strange was so surprised?
Not gonna lie I don't like that the mystic art came after spider magic. I like that there's a sorcerer supreme Spiderman but saying it came before magic is kinda pushing it. I'd say that the magic is parallel to each other. Same source but just different incantations. It does make it more sensible without suddenly throwing the towel out of Dr. Strange.
This is cool just like fanfiction is cool: a contained story that doesn’t alter established content. Not a huge fan of having the whole canon retold like that

In the Spidey comic The Other, characters like Ezekial, what Ezekiel was doing with Ariana, and of course Madame Web. IMO, Instead of the spider verse using mystic arts, the better route would be that the spider magic just amplifies their abilities like Ben Reilly's spider sense when he became chasm or something like that
Spider-Magic is kinda cool, but what I don't like is Spider-Woman being Slaughtered in the stomach, being turned into ashes in Spidey's Hands, But MCU Spider-Man is what honestly admire must of all and so much more about Tom Holland.
Maybe in Spier-Man: No Way Home was the foreshadowing of Peter was connected with magic. When Dr. Strange tried to grab the box but couldn’t because the magic in Peter wouldn’t not allow Dr. Strange to take it.
Marvel will maybe let a writer do something cool with it for like three months and then either ignore it or retcon it out of existence and hope everyone forgets about it regardless of if they liked it or not. Still miss those stingers.
Let's be serious, this is created so Spiderman is so far from the original. That they can keep the Spiderman IP in court and the family of the creator won't be able to have it.

Yeah like we know from What If…? that learning the mystic arts in Kamar-Taj isn’t limited to just people that’s been through physical pain but also emotional pain and Peter has lost everyone he loves whether it be by death or by magic spell

I don't know what to even think of Spider-Man after everything that happened during Spider-Man No Way Home where everything feels messed up as Scarlet_Witch using her Hex on Westview. Damage Control don't remember the interrogation with Peter but remember attacking Spider-Man for a huge misunderstanding. Also Spider-Man is clearly limited to whenever Sony let Disney use him in the MCU since he wasn't featured in Avengers Con during the Miss Marvel Disney Plus show despite the fact that he fought against Thanos on his home planet and getting the Nanotechnology Infinity Gauntlet away from him along with the fact that he stopped appearing in the Marvel Studios intro. If anything, I want to see Tom Holland playing some other Marvel hero in the MCU like one of the Mutants, Captain Britain, Machine-Man or Quasar

The Spider-Man at the beginning of issue 2 is not the MCU Spider-Man, it’s the Disneyland version.
Now that this is a thing and they showed Tom Holland, I think this could be a way they reverse some of the things that happened in no way home. Peter could learn to make it so he exists and people remember who he is like his best friends. The secret identity thing can go either way.

I feel like this has been building for a while. Spidey has always been pretty capable against magic wielding opponents. And plus it explains why he was able to keep Strange from getting the box in No Way Home when he was pushed into astral form.

Blew my mind about the doctor strange finger signs? No, I noticed that in a Spider-Man animated series doctor strange action figure when I was 5 or some odd years old. I had never even heard of doctor strange outside of Spider-Man until legit decades later. Called it!! Woo!

My first thought was like "Oh hell no! More crap!?! Already Norman Osborne -shades of Lex Luthor - is now a nice guy(?!?) that Peter easily trusts(?!??), let alone works for (?!?!?). Now Morlun's going to be an ally too?!? Maybe they can hang w/ Edde Brock's Venom? AND Dr. Strange's magic gets retro-crap-co opted?"
But, as I thought about it, there've been hints over the years of Spider-Man's magical potential (which does make more sense than him teaming up with Osborn)...
I think in the Wand of Watomb story seen here, Dr. Strange temporarily tranfered his magic to Spider-Man, impressed by how he adapted to it. At another point (don't remember where or when)after Spidey helped him repel some C'thulu-esque entity (Shuma-Gorath?); Strange commented that Spidey had the potential to make a fairly considerable sorcerer. but Spidey laughed it off. Sometime later, during an (apparently?) unrelated meeting, Spidey asked Strange if he's ever noticed the similarity of their hand gestures. The way Doc hesitantly says like "yes ..." , and drops it always left me thinking maybe (the writer was hinting) there was something else Doc decided not to say. I was actually thinking of it a few days before I even heard about, let alone read, this comic.
And let's not forget the Anansi factor.
I'd just hate to see this retro-diminishing/co-opting Strange's magic. Especialy if the potential for buffs will be ignored like the Way of The Spider martial art; which Spidey said he "forgot about". A Spider-Man story w/ possible long term implications on Dr. Strange's magic shouldn't be inconsequential to Spidey's own lore.

Not gonna lie I don't like that the mystic art came after spider magic. I like that there's a sorcerer supreme Spiderman but saying it came before magic is kinda pushing it. I'd say that the magic is parallel to each other. Same source but just different incantations. It does make it more sensible without suddenly throwing the towel out of Dr. Strange.
But didn't that deepest magic spells Steven uses come from Agamotto and the Vishanti. I'm not feeling positive about this.

Spider-Magic is kinda cool, but what I don't like is Spider-Woman being Slaughtered in the stomach, being turned into ashes in Spidey's Hands, But MCU Spider-Man is what honestly admire must of all and so much more about Tom Holland.

Maybe in Spier-Man: No Way Home was the foreshadowing of Peter was connected with magic. When Dr. Strange tried to grab the box but couldn’t because the magic in Peter wouldn’t not allow Dr. Strange to take it.
