I have binge watched your play list for so many years. It is THE woodsman library to me.

Thank you for taking this old man down memory lane. As a teenager I ran about 60 muskrat sets and always threw in a few fox sets in NE Ohio.

I have never trapped and probably never will, but I find this absolutely fascinating to watch!

All the old books I have from the early 1900's mostly refer to
the long spring traps we use
as newhouse traps as kind of a
    universal description.
    One was talking about the
wolf bounty of that time was
$25.00 , a large sum for the day when a good many people
    made a dollar a day.
Most of the books recommended using a tree
limb for a drag, or "clog" as
they called it instead of using
a metal or wooden stake to
anchor a trap, or a drowning
wire like is still used today.
Very happy to see a new trap
video. Hope to see many more.
    Many thanks

I’m 75 old. Growing up I used mostly box traps and spring pole traps. Metal traps were expensive.
I caught rabbits, raccoons and ground hogs mostly. All three of which were excellent eating as well as getting paid for the pelts. I had a BB gun that I used to shoot pigeons in the farmers barns. I got a nickel for every pigeon from the farmer, we would eat the pigeon and my neighbor would buy the tail and wing feathers to make decorations with. My Grandmother used to tell me to go get her a yard pig ( groundhog) to cook for dinner and the farmer would give money for shooting them out of his fields.

I am stoked for this series! I have a few sets out finally and hopefully I will expand the line very soon. I absolutely love waking up on a cool morning and walking the line with the excitement of possibly having some action on the line. Best time of year if you ask me! I look forward to seeing what’s next brother!

I never knew how to set the double long spring trap. Nobody ever taught me in my family. That's the first time I've seen those brochures from Victor. Thanks for all the info. Your video was very educational. It's been about 60 plus years since I used to use the traps.

My dad had a pile of those when I was growing up that I used to play around with. Unfortunately, they were stolen from me Several years ago, and I only have one left that belonged to my grandfather. Watching you talk about those Those older style traps really brings back memories!

Hey Dave, question for ya.. do you happen to remember which video it is where you tell that story of the group of hunters that had their deerskins taken by Natives and they carved the note into the tree I think it was? I would like to listen to that again but I can’t remember the video or the details.. thanks 🙏🏻

Primary concern would be toxicity of calories trapped.
I drop deer well beyond any Round-Up, PFAS, insecticide, pesticide, fertilizer, etc soaked dwellings.
We can get all those right out of the grocery store.
Of course, matters not if no gasoline or food readily available.

I hope you can make a video about how to make raccoon lard
We have some giant raccoons at the lake and at other towns and cities nearby
I saved one one night at work using my Powertac Huntsman XLT. It crawled out the bottom of the trailer i was packing up and i thought it was a small dog at first but when it turned to me I realized it was a giant raccoon 😂
It went to the tree at the sidewalk and stayed there for a while then went to the manhole and back to the tree about 4 times before crossing the 4 lane road. I was thinking "Am i gonna see it die? I can't let that happen, i gotta help it but i don't wanna get close to it" so then I shined my light on it each time so the drivers can see it and not run it ov er 😂

Dave I’ve been watching you since before you were famous. I remember one time a decade or so ago, you said you had really big news and would tell us about it as soon as you could. My brain went an entirely differently direction than your news. Or what would come. Also screw neanderthal feet. My brain went to games. Now more so with vr. You building the world with plants and their uses, way before fortnight and the quick building. If you propose this to meta aka facebook, don’t forget about the lil guys… 😂
