Yes true, he didn't like and didn't support of having political parties or affilitiations. The reason why he ran for 2nd term is also bcoz conflicts were starting to happen within the government top officials and in Congress as well I think. It was stated in his Presidential farewell address, which he warned the citizens about many other things as well that would or may happen such as secession from the union, as seen in the civil war. He was indeed a humble, caring and loving man. America's top President! RIP General!

He was one of the influential people in my life that helped make my decision to join and go fight for our country. He deserves to hear that much for all that he did for us.

It's easy to think that, but considering none of us ever met the man, how can you say that with certainty? You simply want to believe it because you deify the founders of our country. They did a wonderful thing but considering that no one is perfect, then you can't say with certainty how he would feel about today. I would argue that he would be blown away by a smart phone or a vehicle, or, dare I say, an airport.

He's on the quarter, and the dollar bill. Our Nations Capital is named after him, as is the State of Washington. Presidents Day was created to honor him. We have a giant obelisk in the middle of the National mall named after him. There are 31 Counties named after him, and 71 cities or townships. Something tells me we aren't likely to forget him.
I believe that I’m one of the few, non family members, to have entered the Washington crypt. As an African American, it’s a particular point of pride. I happened to be on the grounds doing some work. A job which culminated with the preparation to build the new gift shop. It was an honor after hearing about the former slave that designed and built the crypt. Just walking past the Alabaster sarcophagus of George and Martha, there’s a quiet reverence, like stepping back in time. I got to open the door to the crypt and peer inside. It was just after a huge storm had hit and they wanted to check and make sure it hadn’t been compromised. As a history buff and future Archives Technician, it doesn’t get any better. My next highest honor was to be in the same room with the Declaration of Independence as it was last being restored. Part of what can only be a mass blessing of great timing. This not lost of the fact that I recognized the standing of a black man, in the days of each event. We’ve come a long way, in a relatively short time, but we still have far to go. 🙏🏽

When my eighth grade class visited Mount Vernon, one of my classmates and their mother who are descendants or Martha Washington were given the opportunity to lay the wreath l, and I got to read the prayer. It honestly was an amazing and beautiful experience.
George Washington was an amazing man. For a sample of that, read the book, “1776.” I think he would get physically sick if he saw what’s going on today in Washington DC.

I think of the bitter cold of Valley Forge, a ragged army survived, inspired by their leader, with them in the fridgid temps. Our country held on by a string....and survived. Thank you General. You planted the seeds, and quite a tree has grown.
Years ago, my husband and I visited Mount Vernon and bought a cutting of the original boxwood! It is over 20 years old, and is a large bush at this time. I cherish this!
Original boxwoods can easily be created from cuttings from your bush. If you did the relatively simple work and presented it to the estate they could replant the bushes.
A little over two years ago my wife had to attend a conference in DC so she and I went without our children (a VERY rare thing). We both had wanted to tour Mount Vernon for years and being in DC and kid free we decided to do just that. I knew nothing about the tour or the ceremony and it just so happened that we were standing near his tomb about the time the ceremony was to start and I actually got to participate by placing the wreath inside the tomb. That was a very surreal moment for me knowing I was standing right next to the father of our country and a moment I will appreciate the rest of my life.
We are all delighted that we could provide you with such a meaningful experience at Washington’s beloved estate, and hope the two of you can visit us again soon!
The actual caskets and bones are in this tomb? Has scientist or archeologists ever studied them? The hair, clothing, teeth, for DNA to make a actual record our first president and first first lady. I think it would be interesting to scientist and the public. Plus photographs of the clothing and shoes any Jewelry.
@@josephdeffendoll3056 The body is indeed there yes, and we already have 1st hand reports and accounts of everything he was wearing when he died, and when his body was placed in the tomb. We even have actual hair remains of George Washington as well which have already been studied by scientist, DNA to I believe. Not sure on the teeth part.

Went there in 1976 & again in 1991. It is a great place to visit. If you get the chance go visit there 😁 you won't be disappointed. Arlington is right around the corner.

I have a 5x great grandfather named George Thomas Ewing Sr. who served throughout the Revolution, and was with George Washington at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777.I am proud of my GG for fighting for this nation, and grateful to General Washington for being his Commanding Officer , [ and keeping him alive], and for being the first President of the United States of America. @@noobie1890 Actually, doing Ancestry.com, I have found at least 20 ancestors who fought in the war, and that is just on my Moms side, I haven`t done my Dads side yet. I wrote about George Ewing because he also wrote a journal about his war years, which survives.

I went to mount Vernon when I was 13. It’s a pretty neat place, almost everything in the mansion is original, and you’re not allowed to take pictures of the inside because of everything being so historic
I visited Mr. Vernon in 1966 when I was 11 years old. I still have a vivid memory of the house, the grounds and the tomb. Beautiful home. I would have liked to have lived there. I could see how Washington loved it. I could just imagine him sitting on the porch in the afternoon, enjoying the view, visiting with family and friends.
I was a long-haul driver and passed near Mt. Vernon several times but as usual never had time to stop. Seeing the Potomac river was always profound, being in the area where so much history was made. Virginia was like one big historical marker...
The country we live in today doesn't make me proud especially because I'm considered an American by most people at school they always tell me to go back where I came from which makes me die inside and laugh since this country I learned in history class was basically built off of immigration

i’ve been lucky enough to visit mount vernon twice. i first went when i was 13. such a beautiful home and so was memorial service in front of his grave.

Lin Herz My mom use to call them the old ladies that ran presidential homes. We visited a lot of them when I was growing up and whether they were run by the park service or what she would refer back to the old ladies

The last time I saw former President Washington's tomb was around 2008. I never got to enter the tomb as it was being renovated and repaired. It's the most quiet place on the property. Absolutely peaceful and serene. I miss it, and I'd love to go back to Mount Vernon one day.
It was a great honor for my wife and I to visit Mt. Vernon and to see the final resting place of General Washington and his wife, several years ago. Mt Vernon and the grounds are truly beautiful
I was there as a kid in the 60’s. I finally went back in 2015. Loved it so much, I went back in 2016. Lots to see at Mt Vernon. Colonial Williamsburg is a favorite destination as well.
We would barely know who George Washington was or what he did had it not been for the Marquis de Lafayette. Lafayette brought courage, incredible enthusiasm and drive, significant personal financials and ultimately French resources including money, ships and soldiers. He was a fundamentalist for personal freedom for everyone. That and only that turned the tide against the British forces at Yorktown lead by Cornwallis. Prior to that turning point the vast majority of the war were losses and retreats. America had a great General in Washington but did not have the resources. France, due to Lafayette, changed everything. Sadly Lafayette's involvement to implement personal freedom in France ended up with the horrendous French Revolution. A MOSt wonderful book on Lafayette is by Harold Unger. An incredible read from many perspectives.
And then about 20 plus years later us Brits had to fight a very long war with Napoleon B who made France a dictatorship and a war mongering threat to the world - funny how the tide of history changes !!!!!
I am reading a biography about Washington, and I do say their relationship was simply immaculate. It is quite bittersweet how Lafayette could end up being so close to Washington.
I ate a pear from one of Georges pair tree, my 4th grade class was on a field trip and i saw a guy picking up pears that fell on ground so i asked if i could have one. He tossed one to me and my friend but he told us not to tell anyone because he didnt have enough for everyone.

Brought my daughter last November to pay our respects to the Father of Our Country, as we are both great admirers. The day before we had toured the White House, and we were rightfully impressed. But, upon visiting Mount Vernon we were simply awestruck. My daughter can be quite a little chatterbox; she is very happy go lucky, fittingly, as we approached Washington's tomb she became very quiet, and no signs were needed to remind her to be respectful. As we walked away, she told me very matter-of-fact, that George Washington is the greatest American who has ever lived. I couldn't argue with her.

It's amazing to learn about past presidents, let alone the very first president of the United States. I've actually seen President Kennedy's burial site at Arlington Cemetery, but I would love to travel around and see tombs and burial sites just like President Washington and Martha Washington. Mount Vernon looks like a very beautiful place to live, and the general made the right choice to be buried there. His home. His sanctuary. His grounds. Thank you for this video. President Washington would not want to see what is going on in the country, completely opposite of what he wanted after he resigned from the presidency. President Washington will go down as one of the most famous people in the country, as well as in history's timeline itself.

I don't know why, but watching this brought me to tears. They just rushed in. I think it's because I feel so blessed to be living in such a beautiful and free country, but at the same time feel that we are living right on the edge of it crumbling out from our feet. We are living in an exact time where it will change... or we will defeat those are are trying to take it from us. I will fight for the latter.
Now George Washington’s history is what America is all about. I am thankful for my heritage. Next year, I plan on taking my son around to see the founding fathers. Where America started. I live in Massachusetts, in hope cemetery there are revolutionary war soldiers. One soldier was 14 when he fought the british his name is Peter Slater. He fought in many battles had a long career in the military, basically his whole life. I make sure him and all other vets still have an American flag flying in front of their graves.

But when His country needed him, and he saw the example of our Savior, he too bent a knee to God our father, and fought till the battle was one. We salute you President Washington.

I have visited his tomb twice. It was an honor. I admit to silently crying. The man was a hero and role model for me and it was powerful to be there and honor his resting place.
I will always respect this President for requesting all his slaves be freed upon his death. Also, the memorial he requested thanking them of their service was very noble.

When my eighth grade class visited Mount Vernon, one of my classmates and their mother who are descendants or Martha Washington were given the opportunity to lay the wreath l, and I got to read the prayer. It honestly was an amazing and beautiful experience.

A little over two years ago my wife had to attend a conference in DC so she and I went without our children (a VERY rare thing). We both had wanted to tour Mount Vernon for years and being in DC and kid free we decided to do just that. I knew nothing about the tour or the ceremony and it just so happened that we were standing near his tomb about the time the ceremony was to start and I actually got to participate by placing the wreath inside the tomb. That was a very surreal moment for me knowing I was standing right next to the father of our country and a moment I will appreciate the rest of my life.
We are all delighted that we could provide you with such a meaningful experience at Washington’s beloved estate, and hope the two of you can visit us again soon!
The actual caskets and bones are in this tomb? Has scientist or archeologists ever studied them? The hair, clothing, teeth, for DNA to make a actual record our first president and first first lady. I think it would be interesting to scientist and the public. Plus photographs of the clothing and shoes any Jewelry.

I went to mount Vernon when I was 13. It’s a pretty neat place, almost everything in the mansion is original, and you’re not allowed to take pictures of the inside because of everything being so historic

I have not been there in almost 40 years, and I would say I was very humbled to stand at the Grave of America's First President George Washington.

I visited Mr. Vernon in 1966 when I was 11 years old. I still have a vivid memory of the house, the grounds and the tomb. Beautiful home. I would have liked to have lived there. I could see how Washington loved it. I could just imagine him sitting on the porch in the afternoon, enjoying the view, visiting with family and friends.

The last time I saw former President Washington's tomb was around 2008. I never got to enter the tomb as it was being renovated and repaired.
It's the most quiet place on the property. Absolutely peaceful and serene.

Colonial Williamsburg is a favorite destination as well.
We would barely know who George Washington was or what he did had it not been for the Marquis de Lafayette. Lafayette brought courage, incredible enthusiasm and drive, significant personal financials and ultimately French resources including money, ships and soldiers. He was a fundamentalist for personal freedom for everyone. That and only that turned the tide against the British forces at Yorktown lead by Cornwallis. Prior to that turning point the vast majority of the war were losses and retreats. America had a great General in Washington but did not have the resources. France, due to Lafayette, changed everything. Sadly Lafayette's involvement to implement personal freedom in France ended up with the horrendous French Revolution.
A MOSt wonderful book on Lafayette is by Harold Unger. An incredible read from many perspectives.

Brought my daughter last November to pay our respects to the Father of Our Country, as we are both great admirers. The day before we had toured the White House, and we were rightfully impressed. But, upon visiting Mount Vernon we were simply awestruck. My daughter can be quite a little chatterbox; she is very happy go lucky, fittingly, as we approached Washington's tomb she became very quiet, and no signs were needed to remind her to be respectful. As we walked away, she told me very matter-of-fact, that George Washington is the greatest American who has ever lived. I couldn't argue with her.
I just hope that nobody try to deface this honored place.

I've actually seen President Kennedy's burial site at Arlington Cemetery, but I would love to travel around and see tombs and burial sites just like President Washington and Martha Washington. Mount Vernon looks like a very beautiful place to live, and the general made the right choice to be buried there. His home. His sanctuary. His grounds. Thank you for this video. But when His country needed him, and he saw the example of our Savior, he too bent a knee to God our father, and fought till the battle was one.

I have visited his tomb twice. It was an honor. I admit to silently crying. The man was a hero and role model for me and it was powerful to be there and honor his resting place.
I will always respect this President for requesting all his slaves be freed upon his death. Also, the memorial he requested thanking them of their service was very noble.
My third or fourth great grandfather served under George Washington throughout the Revolution. It's something I'm very proud of.
I remember visiting last year, and it was beautiful!
