Ah.... So many memories. I still have my Director's Cut that I got from a store that no longer exists that funny enough the voice actor for this Kenshin said he worked at in the commentary of this movie XD
Anyone else prefer the original? The more saturated colours, shiny effect in enishi's sword, the blurry effect and the stylished shot of the river goes against the more grounded aesthetic of the Reflections OVA.
I bought trust and betrayal and this directors cut reflections from FYE back in the day. I have never seen another anime story that was like this one. I have the complete berserk series Manga books and all but this one is something else in my opinion. I hate love stories but between this and hunter x hunter chimera ant story it is something different.
Even though the animation is better with all the added scenes, I can’t stand it that they scrapped the entire original release’s musical score and just reused the OST from Samurai X Trust and Betrayal.
There was a director's cut of Trust and Betrayal as well, and they messed with the music there too in terms of placement (like making some scenes silent) or adding new footage, completely screwing up the timing of the music with certain imagery (as, unlike a TV show, the OVAs had the music scored to match the imagery like a movie soundtrack) and losing a lot of impact.

to the people who say reflection was non canon yall are trippin cuz after re reading the manga and the hokaido arc up to chapter 30 this was a decent retelling of the jinchu arc it obviously couldve been better but the whole thing about kenshin dying from his wounds later in life and going to war in the north which you can argue he does in the hokaido arc then all of the pieces fall together nicely
@@heeroheero8844 its a better ending than the manga which is no on the bogus ass hokaido arc and the anime ending so actually reflections is way better and a more thoughtful sotry ending then anything that pedophile couldve put together
Beyond Animation I got my copy a long time ago at a store that is no longer open. However, eBay has sealed copies. Just type in Samurai X Reflections Directors Cut. Another that you don't see here is that it's in "widescreen" but they really just chopped off the top and bottom.
Sadly, the localization of this OVA is bad so it doesn't help this scene haha. In Japanese he states "Sister, are you telling me not to take revenge? Do I really need to forgive someone like him?" When Enishi kidnaps Karou up till the fight here, there are times where flashback and mental images appear involving Karou, sort of her "connecting" with Tomoe and understand how she came to forgive him. And we can see in this moment showing that Enishi see his sister in Karou. To be honest, I kinda like this version of Enishi's vision of Tomoe ultimately stopping him as opposed to just simply not smiling and Kenshin ultimately telling him she will never smile if you continue down this road.
This fight scene is so stupid Kenshins all “I will live to protect the people and live the burdens of the lives I have taken” one face plant later “take my life if it’ll make you happy again.” WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU KENSHIN?!?!?!
Unfortunately, its the closest thing to the Jinchu Arc we currently have. I myself enjoy the scene. Kenshin believed he found his answer to live on by wielding the sword to help people. But I believe like he told Sōjirō, winning the battle doesn't mean your way is the right way. And also Kenshin realizes that unless Enishi finds it in his heart to forgive him, his sadness and hatred will continue to grow, so Kenshin offered him a false happiness.
Its to bad this is what we get for Enishi, the Jinchu arc was amazing. I loved the battle at the dojo with Kenshin before he finds his 'asnwer.' The problem is though, unlike with Soujiro who was already defeated and confused Enishi is filled with rage and hatred and still ready to fight. If Kaoru hadn't stepped in Enishi wouldn't have seen Tomoe and the man would've killed Kenshin without a second thought. Tomoe wouldn't have smiled at Enishi so he wouldn't even get that 'false happiness.' This scene defeats the whole purpose of Kenshin finding his answer. The situation is different, this isn't a 'who's right vs who's wrong thought' this is a man who craves revenge and Kenshins life is the payment. Notice how Enishi doesn't even pause when Kenshin offers his life and his mind doesn't change until Tomoe steps in. Don't get me wrong, if you like the scene by all means kudo's. I enjoy it to some extent as well, but that one moment is what I hate about it.
@ KendoGurl I can’t help but agree. This is pretty much the same issue I have with the fight and how quickly they have kenshin switch his POV and you summed it up pretty well. In any case it’s still a great upload and always good to see Kenshin in action.
Jeez, Kenshin is a fucking human, not a one-dimensional being with unshakable convictions, or with the right judgment. it is normal for Kenshin to feel remorse when he saw that Enishi became a person full of hatred and unhappiness because of him, and without thinking, he wanted to help him in any way
Ugh, I'm sorry but did YOU really had to used the atrocious english dub from Wal-Mart ADV ? Also, is it just me or does the colors look more natural on the Director's Cut footage ?

Same here. Mine was from a store called Media Play. Thats pretty cool about the voice actor working at the same store you got your copy

Yes, some of the visuals were better, but the pacing of the directors cut is far superior.
Been looking for this fight....but the vid was removed.
But it looks like they changed the music around a little.
I did upload the full fight not to long ago but got an instant strike for it lol. Its a good scene.

Where can I watch the durector's cut? I love the dark theme

The first time I saw this was the Directors Cut so I'm used to this OST being used.
Power Keg Greg My wife and I used songs from both OST during our wedding. Made it all uniquely ours.
Thats awesome! What a nice memory on an already special day!

Give me One More Red Nightmare any day over that other theme.
Jesus Christ, the differences, mind me asking, where did you obtain the directors cut, mind sharing a link with me?
Btw, check out my channel, I did a video on the Kenshin series, i'm a huge fan.
