      @Scott Mamby I didn't say sexism bothers me more than the death of over a 100 million people
      of course it is important not to ignore the consequences of his ideas but I dont think that means we should reduce all marixst methods of analysis to them. In this case it doesnt need to be about marixst ideals of communism working but just a way to understand social relations.
      Why shouldn't we be okay hearing a marxist understanding of feminisim, especially if it helps explain how this oppression pervades through the work-place?

    • @Kolokommouna
      @Kolokommouna 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Scott Mamby funny how you mention the 100 million mark, when the very same people who estimated it rejected it. Especially when the international maoist federation debunked it. And the deaths under communism is different than deaths caused by communism. Examples like the holodomor and the great chinese famine happened due to natural disasters co-happening with industrialisation efforts. Also, of course you won't mention the vast good that it has done.

    the make-up bit wasnt great, its easy to assume men do an equal amount of grooming when pretty much all of culture presents women pre-groomed. when it comes to body hair alone im certainly glad i choose to present as a man.
    Though things seem to be tending towards more grooming for all (i could see make-up being a normal non-gendered thing in a generation or two). More profit that way i guess...

  • @nicheman3612
    @nicheman3612 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This is hilarious but it does beg the question: is Ash being co-opted into capitalist realism? An hard-left, flavour-of-the-month accessory for cosy mainstream TV shows to signal that they've got their finger on the pulse and/or accommodating to all viewpoints? Or should we be more optimistic and think that Ash is shifting the overton window by being an excellent, likeable representative of the hard-left on this platform?

    • @nicheman3612
      @nicheman3612 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Paul Stanway Ah I certainly knew the horseshoe theory was a centrist conceit but thanks for pulling me up on the Overton window which is something I wrongly associated with a Chomsky-esque critique of media control in line with Manufacturing Consent.
      So do you regard her in line with the whole Leninist critique of left-wing communism being an infantile disorder? And are you down with Mao?

    • @nicheman3612
      @nicheman3612 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Paul Stanway Thanks man for such a detailed reply - I loved reading it and seemed to agree on practically everything including the Menshevik thing (although I have to read much Lenin at all). Although I've been knowledgeable and interested about the history of left-wing movements for quite some time, it's only very recently (2019) that I started to focus on becoming a Marxist and reading Mark Fisher who you mentioned was definitely a very important step in this process. As I had Fisher on the brain, that is why I made the comment I did. Like Zizek too. I'm a filmmaker and Zizek's written a lot of film theory so he was probably the earliest Marxist I would have been influenced by back when I was unconsciously scared of breaking from the overton window myself and thus suspicious of self-described communists.
      I am actually British and I think we agree that supporting reformist social democrat policies within capital framework is preferable to acceleration-ism for now. I do follow American politics though of course and obviously support Bernie. I also am not ashamed to express a liking for Nordic social democracies although of course I hope we can do better in the future. On this note Olof Palme should be celebrated a bit more.
      Not going to lie I'm glad you're not a Maoist - I just don't see that as a healthy path to go down. Haha and yes the Shining Path in Peru like Mao - one of the big right-wing leaders in Peru Fujimori was of Japanese descent maybe they just wanted to piss him off more by following the doctrines of a Chinese leader?

    I can't get past the first five seconds of this video without getting this thought experiment on phenomenology, make up, economics, belief, skepticism, essentialism, existentialism and biology out of my system. Trigger warning: it involves peeing. Okay, imagine for a moment you are sat on the toilet looking at the beautiful face of someone (could be a man or a woman). While looking at this face you do your business and pee into the loo.
    Now let's consider another similar but more awkward scenario. For some reason maybe you were not convinced it was a real face you were looking at - it could have just been a two-dimensional image of a face...? This thought disquiets you somewhat. In fact it piturbs you so much so that it put's you off peeing. I mean, why would you pee infront of someone's face if it wasn't real?
    So let's say you wanted to see both the front and the back of this person's head you were looking at - and conveniently, there was a toilet both in front and behind this person. So you could pee while looking at their face and the back of their head. This requires peeing half in one toilet and half in the other toilet to see both sides equally - but at least you are more convinced that this person's head you are looking at is real.
    But wait. It occurs to you that this person's head could still be a two-dimensional image - maybe you all you saw is just the flat front and back images? And what's more, it also troubles you in the previous scenario as to whether to pee more while looking at the face or the back of the head?
    There are in fact four toilets placed around this person you notice. So you decide to pee in all of them. But pee mostly while looking directly at the person's face.
    Then the person applies make up to their face. And you find you want to pee while looking at their face even more as it capitivates your attention to a greater degree - as though applying make up presents more value, carrying more facial essence, which translates as more viewing time of the face? It is as though you are less skeptical about the person's physical existence - not even trying to ascertain the physical dimensions of their existence as you are purely focused on their essence.

    So Let's see.
    I usually have to perform security checks on our core servers as well as our network infrastructure (not part of my job spec), I sometimes have to get involved with voip configuration and design (not part of my job), and I've also got to go to various meetings and make presentations (not in my job spec). Also sometimes need to stay later to help out with any office moves and help individuals with their issues/needs. None of this is part of my job spec, and I'm only on £42k a year.
    Nurses and doctors have to work xmas, and many times need to work overtime due to shortages in poor conditions. Devs often need to stay behind after work to finish tight deadlines - show me a job advert which involves development, front or back end which says 'must stay later'. It's a given. You don't hear people complain on TV do you?
    Investment bankers need to work 80+ hours a week.
    Yet, these idiots here are arguing about putting fucking makeup on in the workplace. Trust me, those who do normal jobs do not have time to notice anyone else; They are simply too busy and stressed out as it is to notice anything else. Please can we have real debates on TV, where people address government surveillance, global warming and breakthroughs in science and technology. Thanks.
