I also use the cartridges over the converter but don't forget to use the cartridge protector. I helps to prolong the cartridges and gives a firmer surface with the constant clicking of the pen. This pen is my got to carry pen
I bought my Pilot Kaküno few years ago and must say it is awesome. It's gray with red cap for my ruby red ink. I use it daily in my planner and works really the best.
Girl, you are KooKoo for Kakunos! So fun! Love those soft colors. I was going to say I like my lilac over creamy barrel original Kakuno and save the transparent Twisbe-esque look for my original larger Prera. In a few hours, my gray Prera will arrive from Amazon. I'll add some thought back over on that video. ENJOY those soft subtle new Kakunos!
This was so exciting to watch ! I just ordered the brown (medium nib) and the ivory (fine nib) and I’m soooo excited 😆 a Kakuno was my first fountain pen and now my kiddo has a few too …will forever love the Kakuno haha and the gold colored nib is sooooo goooood 🙌🏽 You picked out the perfect inks to pair them with (it’s so sad the pink was a little too light but it’s spot on! Haha) happy new pen day 🥳🥂
Dedicate a pen to shimmer inks.they are fun, but some will come off the page if you rub them - like eyeshadow. So I tend to only use one side of the page when I write with them.
I ordered the white one! My first Kakuno is an extra fine and it was love at first write! I have never experienced such a small, crisp, yet somehow perfectly smooth nib! This time, thanks to your video, I am trying out the fine. Can't wait for it to arrive. I think I want to pair it with Diamine Potpurri, an ink from last years inkvent (also my first inkvent) - oh how far I have fallen down this rabbit hole lol.
The white Kakuno is so pretty, and such a great everyday color. I couldn’t agree more about how magical that nib is. I think you’ll love the fine just as much! Diamine Potpourri... Oh, I just googled that ink. Looks beautiful! May need to add to cart now😅(especially that it's Diamine). Enjoy your new pen and ink combo. I’d love to hear how you like it when it arrives!
Thank you for putting me on to the new release. This was the brand I started off with, but since gave them away. I really like this new style. All sold out. But on notification from Jet Pens. I did place an order for a couple clear ones on Amazon to have fun with in the meantime. Another rabbit whole/addiction. Love your ink selection for your new pens. ❤️
You're so welcome! The new Kakuno colors are irresistible, aren’t they? 😍 I totally get why they sold out so fast! Hope you're able to get your hands on them soon!
Now that you have more of a budget friendly fountain pen collection, this is a great opportunity to practice tuning a nib. You can easily make a fine nib write wetter so that the lighter inks are more legible. Writing with a dryer broad is also a great experience.
I'm also terrified of shimmer ink 😩 One day I'll be brave!! 🤩 I wonder if you like the M so much in this because it's a Japanese nib? The stated nib size in Eastern nibs will always be one size SMALLER than a Western nib (Lamy, Kaweco, etc). So your M writes like a F, and your F like an EF. Thanks for penabling me. I hadn't seen these, and now I 'need' a couple 😉💙
Love the colors of the new Kakunos... That LTB Night sky is in my list to buy & you made me want it even more. Hope you can show if they bleed through in your weeks cz I've seen some videos that this years TRP is really not great.
Mine have not bled through. But it's also dependent on ink brand and nib size. Most of the nibs I use are in fine. My A5 Cousin, though, is the worst! That paper bleeds through with everything, unfortunately.
@@SeaweedKisses I only have Kirk's needlepoint, JP EF, F & MF. I have only tried the EF in my 5 yr diary & it bled through. Good thing Hobonichi will replace it with a new one, hope it's better. Scared to try it in my weeks & A6 or Sterling Ink for now.😅
Pilot ink refillable converter for the kakuno is the Con40 or Con 70. Not sure if the Con70 fits but most people like them better than the 40 because they hold more ink. I got my Con 40 off amazon
I managed to get 2 of them in this new series with the M nib, the ivory and the what they call brown. I am SO excited! Meanwhile I have been looking around at inks for some time now and Atlas has a Robert Oster exclusive called Sidewalk Gum, I waited on it through the holidays to see if I really, really wanted it, I survived that test and ordered it yesterday to go in the Pilot Prera fuscia bright pink that is coming from Amazon. That was also ordered yesterday. It isn’t a straight up match but that Prera is so bright pink and the Sidewalk Gum is so unusual that I think I can remember those together. I had already ordered Earl Gray and it is going in the Kakuno M series brown for sure. As for the Ivory, I haven’t figured that one out and that is okay, I will take my time again and look around. I also ordered just the regular clear Kakuno yesterday and, again, I don’t have an ink for that one either. Which is okay. I seem to be picky about my inks which is strange knowing absolutely nothing about any of this?! 😂 As I go absolutely bonkers for the Pilot pens apparently, I have NOT forked out the money for a capless which I consider a win at this point 😂! Meanwhile I am just happily writing away with my TWSBII Eco Caffé Bronze and RO Caffe Crema thanks to your wonderful suggestion! Thank you for the video! 💕
I just started a 6 day TH-cam fast as of yesterday morning (I am a bit addicted LOL) and I see you have uploaded yesterday and today. God must be testing me 😆Sad I can't watch yet but also happy to have something to look forward to. Your channel is definitely a favorite of mine! Even though journaling became a constant in my life this year because of you, I failed to find the time in December. I got back to it yesterday. I ordered my daughter and myself a Lamy Safari, but it was before I saw you didn't really recommend it (not that you hate it)....happy to say so far we like it a lot, but then again, haven't had anything to compare it to besides my vintage Parker fountain pen (Which I like more than the Safari). I'm not big on the Safari grip area, but I knew it was like that when I ordered. I rather just smooth and round. We got medium nib and I like it...I'm more of a bold line than fine line girl myself, but sometimes that doesn't hold true. In my cart now is the KaKuno. I already know I'm going to be like you with wanting one ink color per pen. And it can't clash. 😃
Oh, wow. I’m so honored that my channel is a favorite of yours! 🥹 Good luck with your TH-cam fast (you’ve got some serious willpower!), and don't worry. My videos will still be waiting for you when you’re back. 😊It warms my heart knowing that journaling has become a constant for you this year. Any particular notebook that you found yourself really enjoying? Would love to know. And hey, December happens! It’s all about picking up where you left off, and it sounds like you’re already doing that beautifully!🩷 As for the Safari, I’m so glad you and your daughter are enjoying it! The grip definitely isn’t for everyone, but it’s a great starter pen. The Kakuno is such a fun pen - I think you’ll love it, especially the grip area. And yes, matching ink to pen is so satisfying...haha! Happy New Year, and welcome to the rabbit hole!! 🖋
@ Well let’s see, I always have a TWSBI and a LAMY out on my desk normally. I daily use the Waterman Expert (broke it had to send it to Waterman to fix 😢) and the Pilot Metropolitan (the white with the Fine nib just really dreamy). But I did a review on the Hong Dian C2 (green) with a Fine nib, and I have to write with it all day long. It’s sleek, classy and only 10 bucks, but it is definitely worth writing with.
Kakuno is my first love. 😍 So naturally I had to order the beautiful dreamy shades. I wanted ivory and pink but the ivory sold out so fast. So I bought pink and the darker dreamy blue. I might need the lighter blue 🤔 😅. My very first fountain pen was the little tiny pilot petit 1. I think they stopped making them for some reason. They also had some pretty smooth nibs. The Kakuno feels way more expensive than it is. I also love my Kaweco sports. I have several colors. I think my fav nib is medium. It’s so juicy and shows the color of the ink so well. I recently tried cafe crema ink and ADORE it. I also really love diamines inks because they feel so wet. I can’t stand a dry ink. Yuk. 🤣 I think it’s because I used to love those juicy gel pens as a kid. I loved this video so much. Can’t wait to see more next time. ❤
The Kakuno really does feel like a special pen, especially for the price! It’s such a joy to write with! Just holding it makes me smile😂The Pink and darker Blue are both gorgeous choices. If you're still looking for the ivory, I've updated my description with a seller that sells all the colors. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for being here!
I got the brown one in a medium nib and put Diamine x Cult Pens Deep dark brown in it, but it’s come out a lot lighter (and pretty thin) than normal, so I think I’m going to give it a flush. Thanks for sharing all your new pens!
Lady rose is a beautiful ink but because it's light I found it's best used with cream paper and a thicker (wetter) pen. If you're into Japanese pens and use an EF - M...they might not be wet enough for that ink to be legible.
Try Sailor Studio 273 in the dusty pink pen. Also, if the grip section on each pen is the same color, just screw the barrel and cap from the F nib pink to the blue M nib to swap them out.
I don’t think you can get replacement nibs for Pilot. At least I haven’t had any luck. I just swap out using other #5 size nibs and that works well for me.
I have been hoping that they come out with a kon peki colored one I think they already have I saw exactly 1 picture of something that looked like a kon kepi kakuno but cant find it to save my life so time will tell
Pilot nibs are smooth, but my experience they work better with wetter flow ink. Twsbi and Benu are wet writers. Platinum pens are not picky either. Vaness pens they tell the flow of the inks.
Oh I love these!! I’m going to have to get my hands on them when they’re back in stock! Lady Rose by FWP honestly almost turned me off from the brand lol, it performed awful in every size nib I have. Luckily I found many more FWP inks I love 🤭 thanks for sharing these beautiful little Kakuno’s! ❤️
Aren’t they just the cutest? 🥹🩷 I hope you can snag one of these new Kakunos soon. They’re so fun to write with! I hear ya on Lady Rose! You just penabled me with your excitement for the kakunos.❤
Just FYI you can use Kaweco pen clip with Kakuno🖋️✨
You're right! - I just tried it. How cute! Thanks for the tip! 🙌
You got it right! You are supposed to squeeze it 😊 welcome to the kakuno addiction! ❤
Haha! I probably should've read those darn instructions. Jumped right in due to excitement. Thank you!😅 Loving these Pilot pens so much💖

What is the cartridge protector? I just bought my first Kakuno so I haven’t seen (or heard of) a protector.
I bought my Pilot Kaküno few years ago and must say it is awesome. It's gray with red cap for my ruby red ink. I use it daily in my planner and works really the best.
I adore your videos so much hope that you have a great new year!!
Thank you!! Wishing you a Happy New Year as well! 🩷
Beautiful!
Might be the most underrated fountain pen. Takes a con-70! Love.
I believe it will also take the con-40
It truly is a gem! 😄

Similar to this color? - www.jetpens.com/Pilot-Kakuno-Fountain-Pen-Madoromi-Series-Madoromi-Light-Blue-Medium/pd/43240
What they call the Family series has brighter/translucent colors. That blue might be a little more similar to Kon-Peki.
i think my mom will like the pink tbh
It really is lovely!
Are you still loving the ivory Pilot? I just ordered that today based on your recommendation.
The Pilot Prera? Or this Ivory one in the video? For the Prera, I haven't inked it up yet as I'm enjoying these Kakunos too much😅😅
