I love the point he makes about engaging with full health. One mistake I have made on Ball is engaging without my armor or shield health simply because I think they won't shoot me, when in reality the whole team starts shooting me because I'm now a killable target.

true. also - most comp-ready accounts that are sold online are leveled by low ranked players, they're also almost always DPS players - so you log in, start playing tank - the game has no idea where to put you, it's almost always Silver. If Yeatle had bought a FRESH account, no play-time, and did his own 50 qp wins, the game would learn his MMR and he would likely get a placement around plat-diamond. You can also buy high MMR comp-ready accounts by higher level players. pretty sure that's how Cloudy ended up placing Masters 3 only winning 5 placement games rein-only on Korean servers lmao.
I can't believe I've denied myself the enjoyment of playing ball for so long. I mean sure, I am losing 9/10 tank games now but for the first time since OW2 released I'm actually having fun playing tank. I don't care if I'm going to drop to bronze, as long as I can keep having fun as ball I'll learn how to get better and climb back to where I was.

Game 8 on Rialto was really a masterclass of why a higher rated tank is able to take over a game. You single handedly got 2 points for free by harassing the enemy team 1v5 and then were able to completely nullify their push just by stalling and knowing your limits. I've only made it that far, but that game was really really impressive.

not at all trying to start drama or “conversations”, just making a point abt your point abt ‘Shout’ at like 50:45. i watch a lot of Ballers, including Moreweth; and someone asked Weth what he thought about Shout or why he didn’t use it in that moment or something… and Weth responded like laughing and sarcastically said “what is that?” bc he almost never uses it. but the thing is, it shows. he’s always complaining about his team dying, and it’s often people who are diving w him or while he’s sitting on 300+ shields that don’t get used. if he used shout more in certain situations, he’d be even better than he is right now. (i am plat 4, take everything i said with a boulder of salt)
The only player who explains things very cool and correctly instead of people who do u2gm and are like "we just kill them here cause they are bad players" untill they almost hit GM
I recently watched your u2gm series in Overwatch1, because it's probably the best unranked 2 gm there is. Can't believe u did another one, makes me so happy :))
The best thing I learned from this is that if you force out enemy team's abilities prematurely then they won't be able to use them to either defend themselves or use it offensively against your team and die giving you absolutely massive value.
My toxic trait is that i think I can do all these things immediately after watching. 😅 Thank you for this video, I used to play Ball in OW1 but stopped because it got too hard. I'm trying to get back on relearning him, and this is incredibly helpful. I love the way you explain your moves, where you set up, etc. 🐹
So, in summary The 3 S’s: scout, setup, strike. Those can be done kind of on top of each other, but make sure you’re doing all three, don’t just strike. Macro-level technique is better than micro-level skill Make yourself hard to hit. Get behind cover, move a lot, don’t just stand and shoot. Go for healers first, then dps, then tank Claim high ground for your team. Your “tank” job is to create space and get their team to turn and face you. Retract is really strong. Use it. Your ult should be used if it will win you the fight, save it if it won’t. Your ult should split the enemy team. Boop, slam, distract, damage, high ground. If you’re doing that, you’re maximizing ball’s potential. So even if you lose fights, keep doing the macro stuff. Keep track of enemy cooldowns. This takes practice but will seriously improve your game. Shout your team when they’re in losing engagements. Play the megas for healing. They should heal you as much as the healers do. Know the limits of your gameplay. Don’t overcommit because you’re cocky; don’t undercommit because you’re timid. Know your limits and play at those limits. That should be most of it. Lemme know if I missed anything

because you’re subconsciously picking up on how they play and you start to think more about how you approach situations. Just watching gameplay massively improves your game sense.

Ha... I'm relatively new to "hard maining" a hero but gone for ball now, and while I get blips of thinking "yea that was smooth/skilled...can see some improvement", what I cannot do like upper tier players do, yeatle especially, is follow up a boop>slam with head rattling aim... I boop/slam then "gently massage" them with 40% accuracy and they get bailed out, have to rely on dps to spot the near-kill to prop me up, Yeatle just locks on and drops them over and over.
@@blowbags2008 Yeah, people don't realize that when we say Ball is a mechanically difficult hero, we aren't JUST talking about grapple physics and techs (which are hard of course). Ball's kill potential is REALLY important and pure aim is important on ball too. Yeatle can get a lot more kills because of his aim than a masters Ball for example.
As a New Wrecking Ball Main, my very first match was today... and it was a loss... but not in my eyes! We started out pretty ok, but once I got the initial hang of it I started LEGIT dominating by causing so much mayhem in the backlines nobody could do anything. We then turned each and every fight around, and were down to the last fight. And guess what happens, they go Sombra and Junk, A hard and soft counter. Immediately I get shut down as the sombra Only goes for me, and makes me get less value so my team gets way more pressure as I am not terrorizing them as much, I then die due to junk's trap even with a 5 man over-shield because Sombra hack + virus + headshots is about the DPS of a Bastion LMAO. And we loose. My team was actually VERY supportive of me! And I got the MOST amount of endorsements I think I HAVE EVER received at the end of a match, it was like 5. (I predict the Sombra on the enemy team gave me one as they probably felt sorry) My Score? I went 33-2 in my FIRST match of ball EVER. I AM A BALLER BABY!!! EDIT!!! YOU MENTIONED AT 3:21:22 TEMPLE OF ANUBUS WAS THE BEST BALL MAP! THE ABOVE MATCH I MENTIONED WAS ON THAT MAP!!!
Do you have any videos on how to play WITH ball? I struggle a ton as support/DPS especially if I'm not diving with him (ie ball is the outlier in the comp). I usually manage to get by because Ball is pretty rare in my games, but knowing how to better play with him would be great.
Things I learned 6 minutes in *retracting to get to high ground *not fireballs allows you to get grapple h faster *when multiple enemies are around (if bumping one, keep the hook and go back and bump the others.
I well be totaly and brutally onest, I'm really jealous. Given the fact that you learned your way here, to learn the control and master the character, i cant even begin to understand the basics of movementes, and the game filled with toxic player obviously dont help a lot. That being said, i also want to tank you, because your videos are of great inspiration, and also are a great source of learning. Keep up the good work ❤
Watching his makes me rethink how viable winston is. This character can actually kill with their primary in a reasonable amount of time, has two encounter-starting movement skills, and can give overhealth to a team. Like I understand they have different kits, but Winston needs a buff (alt fire needs more dmg, primary fire's dmg over time needs a reasonable ttk), not Orisa or Mauga
Ball needs one… just one little micro tweak/buff to make him so much better! And that is a new passive: CCC (crowd control controlled) When Wrecking Ball is hit with CC, for every second he is under CC, his adaptive shields cooldown is sped up (like venture when underground and drill dash). This fixes a lot of issues with Sombra (Sombruh) and other CC like Anna sleep, preventing him from just getting double or triple CC and dying, he now can suddenly pop adaptive shields RIGHT as soon as his original shields fail if the enemy uses a enormous cc comp!
What do you recommend for the grapple retract keybind and why? I don't like any of the other choices, especially since I bound piledrive on my mouse on mouse 5, I think, in OW1.
Alsoooo, I’m only an hour in but with your sammich technique it is extra beneficial because it really allows you to maximize those shields and drop em on your teammate just another benefit to it :)

Ranked is rigged. Old accounts are locked in certain ranks to keep them there.

but the thing is, it shows.
he’s always complaining about his team dying, and it’s often people who are diving w him or while he’s sitting on 300+ shields that don’t get used.
if he used shout more in certain situations, he’d be even better than he is right now.

The best thing I learned from this is that if you force out enemy team's abilities prematurely then they won't be able to use them to either defend themselves or use it offensively against your team and die giving you absolutely massive value.

Thank you for this video, I used to play Ball in OW1 but stopped because it got too hard. I'm trying to get back on relearning him, and this is incredibly helpful. I love the way you explain your moves, where you set up, etc. 🐹
So, in summary
The 3 S’s: scout, setup, strike. Those can be done kind of on top of each other, but make sure you’re doing all three, don’t just strike.
Macro-level technique is better than micro-level skill
Make yourself hard to hit. Get behind cover, move a lot, don’t just stand and shoot.
Go for healers first, then dps, then tank
Claim high ground for your team.
Your “tank” job is to create space and get their team to turn and face you.
Retract is really strong. Use it.
Your ult should be used if it will win you the fight, save it if it won’t.
Your ult should split the enemy team.
Boop, slam, distract, damage, high ground. If you’re doing that, you’re maximizing ball’s potential. So even if you lose fights, keep doing the macro stuff.
Keep track of enemy cooldowns. This takes practice but will seriously improve your game.
Shout your team when they’re in losing engagements.
Play the megas for healing. They should heal you as much as the healers do.
Know the limits of your gameplay. Don’t overcommit because you’re cocky; don’t undercommit because you’re timid. Know your limits and play at those limits.

because you’re subconsciously picking up on how they play and you start to think more about how you approach situations. Just watching gameplay massively improves your game sense.

Ha... I'm relatively new to "hard maining" a hero but gone for ball now, and while I get blips of thinking "yea that was smooth/skilled...can see some improvement", what I cannot do like upper tier players do, yeatle especially, is follow up a boop>slam with head rattling aim... I boop/slam then "gently massage" them with 40% accuracy and they get bailed out, have to rely on dps to spot the near-kill to prop me up, Yeatle just locks on and drops them over and over.
@@blowbags2008 Yeah, people don't realize that when we say Ball is a mechanically difficult hero, we aren't JUST talking about grapple physics and techs (which are hard of course). Ball's kill potential is REALLY important and pure aim is important on ball too. Yeatle can get a lot more kills because of his aim than a masters Ball for example.

As a New Wrecking Ball Main, my very first match was today... and it was a loss... but not in my eyes!
We started out pretty ok, but once I got the initial hang of it I started LEGIT dominating by causing so much mayhem in the backlines nobody could do anything.
We then turned each and every fight around, and were down to the last fight.
And guess what happens, they go Sombra and Junk, A hard and soft counter. Immediately I get shut down as the sombra Only goes for me, and makes me get less value so my team gets way more pressure as I am not terrorizing them as much, I then die due to junk's trap even with a 5 man over-shield because Sombra hack + virus + headshots is about the DPS of a Bastion LMAO.
And we loose.
My team was actually VERY supportive of me! And I got the MOST amount of endorsements I think I HAVE EVER received at the end of a match, it was like 5. (I predict the Sombra on the enemy team gave me one as they probably felt sorry)
My Score? I went 33-2 in my FIRST match of ball EVER.

Do you have any videos on how to play WITH ball? I struggle a ton as support/DPS especially if I'm not diving with him (ie ball is the outlier in the comp). I usually manage to get by because Ball is pretty rare in my games, but knowing how to better play with him would be great.

Things I learned 6 minutes in
*retracting to get to high ground
*not fireballs allows you to get grapple h faster
*when multiple enemies are around (if bumping one, keep the hook and go back and bump the others.
I well be totaly and brutally onest, I'm really jealous. Given the fact that you learned your way here, to learn the control and master the character, i cant even begin to understand the basics of movementes, and the game filled with toxic player obviously dont help a lot. That being said, i also want to tank you, because your videos are of great inspiration, and also are a great source of learning. Keep up the good work ❤

This character can actually kill with their primary in a reasonable amount of time, has two encounter-starting movement skills, and can give overhealth to a team. Like I understand they have different kits, but Winston needs a buff (alt fire needs more dmg, primary fire's dmg over time needs a reasonable ttk), not Orisa or Mauga

And that is a new passive: CCC (crowd control controlled)
When Wrecking Ball is hit with CC, for every second he is under CC, his adaptive shields cooldown is sped up (like venture when underground and drill dash). This fixes a lot of issues with Sombra (Sombruh) and other CC like Anna sleep, preventing him from just getting double or triple CC and dying, he now can suddenly pop adaptive shields RIGHT as soon as his original shields fail if the enemy uses a enormous cc comp!

Alsoooo, I’m only an hour in but with your sammich technique it is extra beneficial because it really allows you to maximize those shields and drop em on your teammate just another benefit to it :)
