  • @WillRennar

    So basically, the percentage of the player winning each turn are ((x/6)^(x-1) * 100) percent, where x = the number of die faces the scammer didn't pick, which will always be 1 more than the number of dice the player rolls.
    Scammer gets 1 die, player gets 4: x=5, player's odds = (5/6)^4 * 100 = 48.2253086%
    Scammer gets 5 dice, player gets 1: x=2, player's odds = (2/6)^1 * 100 = 33.3333333%
    Basically, the more dice they let you have, the better your chance of winning each round, but even at a barely-in-your-favor split, the odds that you'll get to 5 before them are better.

    This doesn't always lead to victory, you're just more likely to win. Especially when you get 1 die and the odds are 52% vs. 48%, that's close enough where there's a good chance you may lose.

    • @online_cat
      @online_cat 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MaskedCT did you not listen? It's just like this 10 games that means 1000% is the whole, that means 580% to 480% that's a 100 % increase which in 100 % means 10 percent increase rather than a 4 percent increase . There are more to it but this is just simple terms

    • @online_cat
      @online_cat 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or you have times the probability so like 4/6 chance of winning = 40/60 when x10

    • @MaskedCT
      @MaskedCT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off I hope you realize 4/6 and 40/60 is the same odds of winning. I know exactly how probability works. The more you perform the experiment, the closer the results are to the expected. Playing the game 1000 times instead of 1 time doesn't change your odds of winning, it just makes the results more aligned with what's expected. Second, did you even understand the point I was making? The title advertises that this method ALWAYS ends in victory. Always means you will win 100% of the time. I just said this is something that's in your favour but not a guaranteed victory every time.

    • @brokegagfountain
      @brokegagfountain 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So consider that they repeat the game until anyone got 5 points. The slight difference in the probability leads to a much higher chance of winning after several rounds.

    • @brokegagfountain
      @brokegagfountain 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Btw, you're right. "Always" is a bit overused for things that people are just "quite confident " about.

  • @BunniBuu
    @BunniBuu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The way I thought about it when I saw the problem was this:
    If they tell you to keep three dice, you have a 50% chance to guess any one die. It is fair odds if they only rolled one die, however because they were rolling two, they give you two chances, skewing the odds in your favor.
    If they tell you to keep one die, you have a 1/6 chance to guess any one die. With 3 dice it's close to 50%, but because there are times when there are duplicates (two or three of your guess in one round), it's slightly less than 50%. Adding one more die makes the odds SLIGHTLY in the scammer's favor.
    Therefore, always choose the single die :D

    • @abonynge
      @abonynge 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      3 dice out of 5 gives you a 50% chance per die, 75% chance overall

      I don't dislike videos but I know one bit of motivation for disliking right away would be the fact that probability/math tricks are dead easy to figure out that they are a scam if you have a decent sense of math, and if I was someone who disliked videos I'd probably dislike this one right away because it's an obvious probability trick just based on the title.

    yy i know, you remember the unlikly positive things more than all the times your rolled low, but still im starting to scare myself sometimes.
    Just dont pull out a game with cards and no dice, then im fucked.

  • @cQunc
    @cQunc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm pretty sure if the scammer gets 4 dice, the scammer's odds of winning are about 67% (2/3), not 76%.
    Assuming the scammer sets the 4 dice to 4 different values, the spectator's/s' die can land on 6 values, 2 of which lead to the spectator(s) winning and 4 to the scammer winning. 4/6 = 2/3.

    • @weagles_fan7467
      @weagles_fan7467 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually a lot more complicated than that. I couldn't tell you the exact formula, but I know that each one is counted as a separate entity, not that they are all combined together.

    • @cQunc
      @cQunc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you say more about what these complications involve? I calculated the odds for all 4 cases, and my numbers match his for the other 3. It's just this one i'm not getting.
      My calculations below, for reference.
      General case:
      - spectator has n dice, scammer has p dice. Assume p P(spectator wins) = (1 - 1/6)^4 = (5/6)^4 = 625/1296 ~ 48.23% (compare to 5:16 - 5:33)
      3 v. 2: (1 - 2/6)^3 = 8/27 ~ 29.63% (6:04 - 6:18)
      2 v. 3: (1 - 3/6)^2 = 1/4 = 25% -> scammer has 75% chance of winning (6:21 - 6:26)
      1 v. 4: (1 - 4/6)^1 = 1/3 ~ 33.33% -> scammer has 67% chance of winning (6:26 - 6:30)

    • @weagles_fan7467
      @weagles_fan7467 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember exactly, but I know I've done something similar in school years back. Pretty sure it goes along the lines of 4/6, 3/5, 2/4, 1/3. Basically you have to calculate each one individually. I just can't remember exactly what you do with each one.

    • @cQunc
      @cQunc 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why should the scammer's dice be treated separately, though? They're not rolled, but chosen based on previous choices, so there are dependencies. Could you be confusing the 1v4 and 4v1 cases?
      Currently, the only way i can think of to get a fraction like 3/5 is to remove one of the 6 numbers from an event space. For example, if a bag contains the numbers 1 through 6 and you pick 4 at random, the probability of getting 4 specific numbers (say, 1 through 4) is (4/6)(3/5)(2/4)(1/3) = 1/15 ~ 6.7%.
      (Edit: didn't realize TH-cam turned my asterisks into formatting.)

    • @weagles_fan7467
      @weagles_fan7467 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's basically the principle of it though. If it's not the result of the first die and they are all different, there's only 5 other possibilities, 3 of which are favourable. If not either of the first 2, it becomes 4 results with 2 favourable, then 3 results with 1 favourable.
