For VHF Channel 16, my understanding is that the USCG requires you to monitor 16 at all times. This is in case of a distress call where you may be able to render assistance. Having a radio with the Dual Monitor function is worth the extra cost and very handy - allows you to listen to two channels at once. Try the Standard Horizon HX890 - good radio.
I saw a guy catch a thresher shark on a kayak off Santa Barbara years ago. OmG it was a fight. It drug that guy all over the ocean. I couldn't stop laughing. Get ready and hold on when you get one because your in for a ride.
There are Threshers here , wasn't a rumor however a bit more south. hooked a 50 lb thresher trolling the ship it took a trolled white daiwa Salt pro minnow. Also a few White Sea -bass are are still in the mix and a few lucky anglers are getting them
Good God Adam! I think you’re nuts! Lol, I had one experience (and once was enough) with a thresher I estimated to be about 8’ (not counting the tail!). I was fishing in SoCal from a small 12’ aluminum car topper boat when I hooked up. I was like "Yahooo" and then it turned into "This damned thing was the devil incarnate". One of the other comments below spoke about getting dragged around, oh yeah definitely, better be ready to use that rudder, and then they get pissed off the closer they are to the boat. It was like it started to channel a mako. Oh yeah, that tail is a weapon buddy watch it. You hook one and get it to leader I think just about all of us here will give you credit for the catch if you were to cut the leader as close to the hook as you can. Speaking of which don’t use a stainless hook you want it to rust out quickly. Look, let me know when you’re going out next, I’ll get out my marine radio and head out to the Bodega Headlands and listen for your MayDay call. I've no doubt a big one will drag you to Eureka buddy! Lol! Good luck fella!
I've had more luck slow trolling a dead anchovy vs a live one for thresher shark. At first it didn't make sense to me as I figure the movements of the live bait would attract more. There was some bait in the water at the time and perhaps the threshers were attracted to floating dead bait it may have probably hit previously (with their tails).
This is insane!! Halibut are such a awesome catch for me in the surf! Crazy how value changes on the Yak😂 threshers would definitely pull you around on a yak🤙🏽 Great video as always!
Love the content a lot of your “ out there” videos like this are always the most interesting, most people just wanna catch fish but it’s cool, you do different things without having any confidence that you’ll catch fish and it’s always dope. Keep it up brotha🤙🏻
I've got 2 rods from Salmon rod from North Fork Composites by Gary Loomis... model SA 1065-2 moderate-Med Heavy 10-40lb 2-8oz... super light rod with all the components floats of you were to drop it in the water
Dude! Earlier today i was out cod fishing in my boat and my battery died, had to flag down another boater to help us. He ended up radioing coast guard to get us towed to the dock. 6 hours later i watch your video and you give me a lesson on the importance of carrying a radio and being on channel 16 for s.o.s. situations. I started laughing. 😆.
The keeper had a bunch of white spots on the brown side. I have heard the ones in the bays (tomales/sf) if they have white spots they are fresh from the ocean. You know anything about those spots. I cant recall ever catching one with white spots in the bay and never caught one in ocean although might try that tomorrow. Good luck on the thresher!
Hey Adam I watch your channel a lot and when your fishing on your kayak can say where you're fishing in your videos so us viewers can know what your fishing for and place
I was fishing for surf perch and walleye perch and when I fish from the beach I go in the water half way up my shins and I saw a trough about 5 feet away from were I could cast so I walked up to my knees and on my final step I stepped on a halibut I looked like 18 inches I was In ocean side at the time and have never seen anyone catch a halibut so I was really freaked out at first
Yes, 16 is the correct channel for all of the coast guard. What is the biggest shark you have seen while kayak fishing? Also, how are you hooking the anchovy?
They're not a docile species and they don't like being hooked. i hooked a little one one year on live menhaden and it was great fight, but I broke near the boat, he was pissed. I see them in the inlet here chasing bluefish, they use that tail to stun them. They get quite large here on the east coast up to 600+. I did see today a guy caught a 186# halibut off Kodiak in a kayak, a Hobie. I'm sure there is more to this story than what was reported.
How’s the smoke in that area? I haven’t been there for a few weeks since the fire started. And when I went out there last time the ashes were bad and kept getting in my eyes
Surf is great. Definitely a fun way to get started. That’s the way I grew up so the surf will always have a place in my heart. Pier great spot too. Very good/ easy place to fish although to me it’s just not the same 🤙🏽 Have fun pier is fish for sure but not as quality fish but it all depends on where you fish
@@kylogged I didn't even know Surf fishing was a thing, I'm in So Cal. Maybe it's too dirty down here in the waters. But after watching this channel, and other locals around NorCal, it seems it's possible.
i have gotten some nice mackerel off piers in socal and that can be a good start. also i think people get these same halibuts of the shore in many places in socal. thats is a great way to start getting into fishing is from the shore and off piers. not expensive and is a good way to break the ice: buying gear and learning knots and rigs etc.
@@kylogged My wife was originally from Oxnard area, went to high school way back when. So surf fishing is possible around that part? Wonder if Adam would do some sort of fishing excursions with novice fishermans that subscribe to his channel. I'll pay for the bait? :)
Great trip, i with we had halibut over here on the east coast. I just started my own channel and wandered if you have any advice or things you wish you had known starting out?
Don’t click bait me with sharks in the title, you know that would be more interesting. Put in some effort and catch a damn shark , don’t tease about a jumping hard fight, then quit and catch boring halibut 👎

Of course the guys on kayaks are on channel 69 😆 🤣 😂
Would be great to see more of your pole & reel set ups plus your favorite set up for surf fishing. Thanks!

Where this place at please
If you want Thrasher sharks. You need a 3 foot leader and a bobber to keep your live bait at the surface
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed your video!
Here in NJ 18" is size limit but not easy to catch.
Wow but 22 in CA.......
I saw a thresher jump while I was on the South Jetty in HMB last weekend! It was neeto!
Another great vid. Always a pleasure to hang out with you while you fish, chat, give advice and share your catches with us. Thanks.
Good job on the Halibut! Always looking forward to more videos! I like the Daiwa Lexa HD 400.
Thanks Vlad! 👍
Can you please do a surf fishing video soon. For some of the followers who found you before the kayak... thank you.

16 on The Great Lakes too. Hailing station then you must switch off 16 to talk ship to ship. Most go to 68.
16 is the same in FL. With the arrival of Corona, channel 16 has had about 10 times as much voice traffic as pre- pandemic levels.
NB has been producing. Few nice hallys out there today.
Man, you landing those halibut makes me want to go catch some halibut lol. Tails up bro😎🤙
You should!
Loving the slap at the beginning. Hope you add more beats to your vids

Thresher Sharks use their tails like whips to stun bait balls. Fact. There is camera footage of it.
Really appreciate your videos
You're gutsy dude...
VHF-16 is valid internationally. It's officially the "International Hailing and Distress Frequency."
Nice!!! U got another drone
Look at a Lami Classic Glass. About the same price as the X11's but much better rods. Not prone to breaking....
Nice hali vid! Screw the shark! I like the new rod and reel!
Beautiful drone footage.
oooooo can I come join you for the next thresher trip ahahaha I wanna get one from the yak myself.

Welcome aboard!
Yes, 16 is the correct channel for all of the coast guard.
What is the biggest shark you have seen while kayak fishing?
Also, how are you hooking the anchovy?
He is using a sabiki rig I think. But you can throw a tiny jig with a tiny soft plastic or bait in a school of fish and catch sum bait
Man that intro is fire! Thanks for keeping me busy during all this
Die Hard Fishing living up to the name!
Where is the place you are fishing? Great catch of different varieties and always interesting to watch your clips.
Crazy!!!!!
Where do you normally launch and how far do you go out if you don't mind me asking, thanks?
Great video! What’s the best time of the year to catch halibut in California ?
Does anyone know where he is kayak fishing I’m really trying to get into it but have no idea where to fish
Brown side looks cooler
Thats the reel i suggested when you lost your other one

Are you fishing Moro Bay? San Diego/Baja here.
I want to get into kayak fishing. Are there any brands or models that you would recommend?
Hobie pedal kayak. That's the gold standard, or get a Jackson.

Not sure about the size but the penn squall is good.

Ky1er L no problem, the penn rival is also good if you want a cheaper option
@@micahlyons5583 been looking into that one. better price definitly might have to pull the tigger on it.
Do you need a Ham license to use the radio?

no shark in the video wasted 18.35min
