I've never seen Dylan so happy and spirited onstage!! GREAT and timeless song, GREAT music by him and Susan, and GREAT chemistry between them. It was just a delight to see how much each of them enjoyed the other's playing. And for everyone who posted negative comments, don't say I never warned you when your train is lost.
dylanelvis I saw Dylan in Den Haag NL in the 80's with G E Smith. Something seemed to be really pissing Bob off as he blistered through song after song dropping some lyrics and half snarling others. It was stunning in its intensity.
What a great piece of footage. It looked like in the beginning the bass playing was showing Susan the chords. Watching her relationship with the song and with Bob as it progressed was priceless.
Tedeschi is the real deal, her and her hubby are INCREADABLE! I think the idea of "learning" is that she's getting father time's way of playing rockin blues. they both seem to be lovin it. I know I do, over and over and over! Where is the rest of this show????
What a treat Bob is and always has been a great person and there is nothing we can say about Susan that hasn't been said by the best she is greast thank you both
Susan is an excellent Guitarist and even better Singer! get a life! Funny never seen Dylan so spirited. Susan probably had a lot to do with that, she is a Peach!
IMHO, Bob is giving her every opportunity (because he recognizes her gift) which she finally recognizes herself. Most 'critics' [non-musicians] will not understand this.
Susan Tedeschi is doing a great job, Dylan enjoys it a lot obviously. Couldn't be better since if Dylan's happy on stage, you bet you get a great show worth every cent you paid. Seen him several times live, 1 show he was in a bad mood. Bad show. Other shows he was in a very good mood: great shows, one even lasted almost three hours!! I don't get why there are so many negative, jealous, comments!
As good as this is, I still prefer the Jerry Garcia cover and the version on Super Session with Mike Bloomfield. Susan Tedeschi is a great singer and it would have been a thrill to hear her sing this song along with Dylan.
too young I guess......... lord I .ride a milk train baby.......caint buy a friend......(thrill)........up all night leaning on the window sill.......if I don make it, ya know my baby will...........I'm sure it's transcribed somewhere.............good stuff!
Brian - just reflect a little on the title and it should be as clear as the sun through a five star hangover. Heavy, heavy blues - with the momentum of a mail train and the heart of the sun. Unbearably human, and it comes through in this brilliant downbeat arrangement. Blues in the absolute!
Quite simply, yes. But for a person bereft of history, pop culture, blues culture, poetry,an informed vocabulary, life experience and culture in general, I guess that I can conceive of someone out there who, deprived of any one of the above, might, just might, fail to understand.
Tony Garnier, who has played bass with Dylan since 1989 and is unofficially regarded as the musical director; it would make sense he would communicate with her.
bass player is showing susan the chords....bob has a tendency to just start songs without telling people what key its in or checking if they even know the song...petty talks about when they backed up dylan on tour and bob would just start playing and TP and the heartbreakers would have to learn the song on the fly...Tom said it was tough but also tightened the band up immensely as they had to be on their toes all the time
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers backed him up in Vancouver, 1990ish. They appeared to be drunk and/or wasted, couldn't get the groove on 2 or 3 tries, little discussion, then Dylan played solo for most of the night.
She talked about this show in an interview she knew the bass player and didn't really know the song that well he' was giving he cues as to the cord changes and such.
Tony reminds me of myself trying to pick up women in loud clubs and shouting in their ears for the last 30 years. Is he teaching her the song or hitting on her? He's talking to her on Highway 61 also. "You excited, baby? Well I've been with him for 30 years"!
Maybe he wasn’t shixfaced like he normally was when he performed. I saw him “perform” once and he mumbled so bad, you couldn’t understand the words. I also bought an album, Self Portrait, that was so bad I took it back and said it was scratched. Later, read he was fulfilling his contract to record company and knew it was garbage. Thanks for the memories. I still listen, but won’t give him another nickle.
I admire some of Dylan's songwriting but hearing him and some "band" just shuffling through some spiritless half assed front bar jam is pretty sad. To see him indulging in this behaviour as an international artist! He's become the kind of bloated boring fart that the young, hungry Dylan would have pulled apart with razor wit in 5 seconds. Ha, the irony!
Susan is a terrible musician. 100s of people in the audience better than her. If not for her husband she would be asking if we want more coffee at Denny's
You mean the multiple Grammy Award nominee, who opened for John Mellencamp, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, The Allman Brothers Band, Taj Mahal, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan?
Eliezer Pennywhistler Kanye West has won more grammy's then I don't know what.... doesn't make him good at all. She could open up for a god damn zeppelin reunion and that doesn't change the fact that most guys like her cause she's good looking ... did you hear her playing on this man? It's awful. I'm not a hater, she's just not as good as she is cracked up to be.
ryan401 You only put an apostrophe in Grammys if you intend to demonstrate a possessive. You're old enough to know that. totalmusicawards.com/grammy-awards/what-is-plural-word-grammy/
she may sing well, but she sux at the gtr..that was god awful, hitting the same riff and a bunch of sour notes, jeez what a crock..how does bob endure that...
Tedeschi is the real deal, her and her hubby are INCREADABLE! I think the idea of "learning" is that she's getting father time's way of playing rockin blues. they both seem to be lovin it. I know I do, over and over and over! Where is the rest of this show????

Kevin Myers I saw that tour, too, in Austin. He was one angry guy. He had a 10 pound sledge and was looking for a wall to hit.
dylanelvis Was thinking just the same !
I'm a lifelong Bob Dylan fan and I'm almost 50 years old...I have never seen Dylan having so much fun as in this clip.
Ik wil weer terug in in de oorspronkelijke
Maybe he’s on the wagon from drugs abd alcohol
I've seen Dylan live 25 times and never have I seen him smile like this. Look like he's actually enjoying it. Nice to see.
How neat to see Bob smiling so broadly and often...rare footage.
What a great piece of footage. It looked like in the beginning the bass playing was showing Susan the chords. Watching her relationship with the song and with Bob as it progressed was priceless.
He was indeed, Susan tells the story in another clip.
Tedeschi is the real deal, her and her hubby are INCREADABLE! I think the idea of "learning" is that she's getting father time's way of playing rockin blues. they both seem to be lovin it. I know I do, over and over and over! Where is the rest of this show????
Love this. He's in such a good mood.
indeed, i like this good mood very much too ! good time ! thnx to girlvirginian
Who ever post this: Thank you so much !!!
Susan! Your smile, joy and playing! ❤️ and Mr. Dylan, the living legend! 😀
wonderful and exciting to see how these three guitars weep ... very "gently" so to say. And ... so lady like.
Oh, life just throws in something so sweet as this ~ It takes me...to a good place!
Stick with this. It really gets good around the 5 minute mark. I can't remember seeing Bob having so much fun playing.
indeed ! this is what it all about: having fun at playing music ! thnx to greg
I'm sayin....
Stick with it baby, stick with it anyhow, things should start to get interestin' right about now...

What a treat Bob is and always has been a great person and there is nothing we can say about Susan that hasn't been said by the best she is greast thank you both
I saw Susan in the 90s' when she was touring, solo, way before she ever even met Derek Trucks. She kicked ass.
i like it ! they all have so much fun on playing ! that's what's music is about, isn't it ?!
I don't know whether Dylan has the hots for Susan Tedeschi, but I sure as hell do.
What interests me is how good Dylan is on guitar.
Oh yeah - he should play more guitar, his phrasing is fantastic!
Slow triplet blues at its best!
brilliant live jamming. bob rocks !
That girl ROCKs... even Dylan was kind of blown away!!! And she didn't even sing!
Two giants!! This is great!!
So much fun😁

just good music
(and a lot of funny people on this channel)
GREAT
This was 1999 before Susan even met Derek.
Ida loved to see BD and Johnny together..........
She's gotten a lot better....
Gone?
Oh noooo. Something happened around the 3:37 mark. Poor Susan. Did her earpiece go out? Was Bob messing with her?
Ahhhhh!!!!
Playing guitar with Susan Tedeschi would be enough to put a smile on anyone's face.
Bob is flirting, she's fawning
You got that right E. I was 25 feet from the stage (UD my alma matter) and thought they were heading right to the hotel room after the show.
he seem glad...happy...congratt...
If you don't like it, change the channel - simple as that.
Leave it alone so others can enjoy.
Derek should be proud
Thank you for these clips from the last show Bob played in '99. I was right down front for it. Do you happen to have "Joey" from this show?
As good as this is, I still prefer the Jerry Garcia cover and the version on Super Session with Mike Bloomfield. Susan Tedeschi is a great singer and it would have been a thrill to hear her sing this song along with Dylan.
I'll take Leon Russell's version over any of them.
Can anyone understand the words that Dylan is singing?
too young I guess......... lord I .ride a milk train baby.......caint buy a friend......(thrill)........up all night leaning on the window sill.......if I don make it, ya know my baby will...........I'm sure it's transcribed somewhere.............good stuff!
Brian, maybe you should go to the docs and get your ears checked out.
The lyrics are as plain as day.
Brian - just reflect a little on the title and it should be as clear as the sun through a five star hangover. Heavy, heavy blues - with the momentum of a mail train and the heart of the sun. Unbearably human, and it comes through in this brilliant downbeat arrangement. Blues in the absolute!
Ian Patterson
Mr Dylan speaks like Dylan Thomas writes,, to the meter of James Joyce..
Quite simply, yes. But for a person bereft of history, pop culture, blues culture, poetry,an informed vocabulary, life experience and culture in general, I guess that I can conceive of someone out there who, deprived of any one of the above, might, just might, fail to understand.
solo la tienen porque es linda
Was Susan dating Derek Trucks here ?
who is the dude in the hit. Perhaps he thinks he is Susan's "mentor"
Tony Garnier, who has played bass with Dylan since 1989 and is unofficially regarded as the musical director; it would make sense he would communicate with her.
Pete Shanks
Thank you.... I didn't think Susan would be so rude to carry on a conversation while Dylan performed.
bgwhitney
talent is on a 24/7 schedule,, the performance is just a blip on the creative radar.
do you mean "hat" ?
Someone says: If Dyllan can sing, everybody can! I think he was right !
Il faut beaucoup pour rire, rien qu'un train pour pleurer !
Bobby, spielst und singst Du da mit mir?
Can't believe that he didn't let her sing a verse.
Who is that guy who keeps rubbing up against Susan, and whispering in her ear? He couldn't be more obvious -- or crude.
Thats Toni G. Dylans long time base player a perfect gentleman. He was calling out the chord changes to her .
bass player is showing susan the chords....bob has a tendency to just start songs without telling people what key its in or checking if they even know the song...petty talks about when they backed up dylan on tour and bob would just start playing and TP and the heartbreakers would have to learn the song on the fly...Tom said it was tough but also tightened the band up immensely as they had to be on their toes all the time

Dylan is a pretty good guitar player
Tedeschi's no slouch on the guitar, that's for sure.
They're having fun and Jamming! Don't be a punk
Leaning in
The bass player is a bit creepy with Susan,I think. But Bob and Susan are having fun together.
She talked about this show in an interview she knew the bass player and didn't really know the song that well he' was giving he cues as to the cord changes and such.
I noticed Bob was in an especially good mood…You think a single (at the time) Susan Tedeschi had anything to do with it?
stop talking while he's singing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Singing?????
@@dennisg.582 yes singing ..thats Bob Dylan and as much as I love Susan she should not be talking while he's playing / singing...very disrespectful
I prefer Super Session's version of this song with Steven Stills on guitar.
Looks like Susan was bringing out the poet in Bob.................
Tony reminds me of myself trying to pick up women in loud clubs and shouting in their ears for the last 30 years. Is he teaching her the song or hitting on her? He's talking to her on Highway 61 also. "You excited, baby? Well I've been with him for 30 years"!

What some guys will tolerate for poon-tang! But why should we all have to pay ?? I'm going to need therapy. That guitar lead was brutal!
Maybe he wasn’t shixfaced like he normally was when he performed. I saw him “perform” once and he mumbled so bad, you couldn’t understand the words. He spoke of you very highly, but had to re-arrange your face and give you another name.
well said Lord
OK
Should've let Susan sing. Didn't understand a word he mumbled.
don't like this? Ya got a hole in ur soul! (sorry but AK wouldn't have minded)
This is embarrassing. Dylan should have retired to Florida with a deck chair and a shawl in 1998. Hey Bob, Boca Rotan Phase 9 is calling for you!
FCOL, give her some space.
Susan is a terrible musician. 100s of people in the audience better than her. If not for her husband she would be asking if we want more coffee at Denny's

ryan401 Shut up Mr. Name caller
she may sing well, but she sux at the gtr..that was god awful, hitting the same riff and a bunch of sour notes, jeez what a crock..how does bob endure that...
Too bad there is no one on that stage that could handle the solos. Kinda sad. Where's Robbie Robertson when Dylan needs him?
Son lamentable...
loud and boring. And it cost money, too, to suffer through this.
Tedeschi is the real deal, her and her hubby are INCREADABLE! I think the idea of "learning" is that she's getting father time's way of playing rockin blues. they both seem to be lovin it. I know I do, over and over and over! Where is the rest of this show????
Oh man, just a ton of people who have no idea how to play lead guitar!!!!! So awful....what an embarrassment!!!
SAD!
Excellent. I am way into The Band right now and NOT into Robbie Robertson
If ya don't know the song don't get up with Dylan.
Creep show...
Why does Dylan always feel a need to butcher either the music or the lyrics (or both)? If he's bored with his songs, why give concerts?
