    In the late '80s, early '90s, my gf (now wife, she was goth, punk) ) and I (was alternative, new wave punk) love Echo and Bunnymen! We have kids now. Always played their music at underground punk, goth clubs we dance to it jaja. See more Echo and Bunnymen videos! They were new wave (darkwave, dark new wave) , post punk, gothic rock, shoegaze/psychedelic. A lot like Clan of Xymox, Sisters of Mercy, The Church, New Order/Joy Division, The Cure, Love and Rockets, Bauhaus (Peter Murphy), Sioxsee and the Banshees.. Also newer bands like The Killers, Bloc Party, Interpol, Arcade Fire are influenced by these groups. You will notice alot of these kinds of bands sings low and slow, deep like Jim Morrison (The Doors), David Bowie, Bono from U2 and others. Part of the style. No Lex goths and punks are not mean, they are some of the nicest and smartest people ever and also very open to all kinds of people, ethnicities, races, and sexual orientations . Just misunderstood, enjoy the dark side, mysterious, complex, exotic, very romantic/passion, surrealism jaja

    My favourite band of all time. Though this is their more commercial side. Their early post-punk songs are certainly more unique. Songs like, The Killing Moon, Bring on The Dancing Horses, Seven Seas may lead you into their, IMO, darker, "edgier" stuff, like Ocean Rain, Crocodiles, All That Jazz and much much more. For a group formed in 1978 they are still going. The drummer, Pete De'Freitas, died in a motorbike crash on the 14th June 1989, he would have been 61 years old on the 2nd of August.

    Excellent song and once again Lex nails it. This track is like prime late 80s “goth” but really it’s alternative pop. Goth kids love echo and their earlier records are much darker and spikier but this record is their attempt at getting a hit. And yes, lots of kids who dress in black are just super romantic and want nothing more than a make out sesh. Check out Siouxsie “peek a boo” , Depeche Mode “blasphemous rumours” or the cure “charlotte sometimes” for darker mtv goth stuff. All awesome songs!! Keep it up love you guys!

    One of my fondest concert memories occurred at an Echo and the Bunnymen concert in the mid-eighties at the Tower Theater in Philly. During one of the songs a girl jumped up on stage and made a bee-line for Ian McCulloch, at just the perfect moment he straight arned her and she just went right down. He didn't miss a beat and just carried on with the song. Someone came out and got her off stage, it wasn't mentioned and the show went on...no one else rushed the stage. It was hilarious and very momorable.

    Lex gets it! Lot of gothic related music, culture (especially the older....'70s, '80s, '90s, early '00s) has a lot of unique romance/love, passionate, mysteriousness, dark romanticism, darker/mellow, moody, melancholy (happy/sad) feels, vibe, style.
    Goth punk/rock came from punk/punk rock. You then have related subgenres like darkwave (dark new wave), New Romantic, etc.
    They were alternative/Indie, new wave (darkwave)! Gothic rock/post-punk group. shoegaze/psychedelic rock from the UK. The shoegazy (fuzzy pedal, amps effects, ethereal sounding) guitars is what yall are hearing. They play their songs at underground night clubs. They are from the UK. Was only shown at night time, Cutting Edge show and Alternative Nation on MTV for alternative music. And 120 Minutes, similar show on MTV. And on college/underground/alternative radio stations. This group was during the late '70s, '80s and early '90s.
    The talk singing style is common in post-punk, new wave. Its' similar to another new wave/post-punk band U2 (Bono), David Bowie, The Doors (Morrison....Echo and the Bunnymen were influenced by them), Psychedelic Furs (new wave/post-punk) , Simple Minds (new wave), Talking Heads (new wave, post-punk), The Cars (new wave, post-punk), and others.
    See more of Echo and The Bunnymen videos/songs "Heads Will Roll", "The Cutter", "Lips like Sugar", "Show of Strength", "Nothing Lasts Forever", " Bringing on the Dancing Horses", etc
    They were inspired by Velvet Underground (proto-punk group), Roxy Music, David Bowie, The Doors and others.
    Similar groups to them are Psychedelic Furs, Killing Joke, Sioxsee and the Banshees, The Smiths, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Clan of Xymox, Joy Division, The Cult (early stuff), The Church, The Chameleons, The The, Coldplay, Interpol, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Flaming Lips, Modern English, early U2 , and others.
    Yall need to do another new wave/post-punk stream.

    This is one of the best post-punk UK bands... for two other great 80's UK bands like this, try the song "Never Understand" by a group called the "Jesus & Mary Chain", and the song "Enola Gay" by a group called "Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark", and for a great 80's American band like this, try a song called "Carry Home" by a group called "Gun Club"

    • @FuzeMuzik

      I love “Never Understand”. Wrapped up in all that feedback, is a nice tune, great melody. Much like JAMC singles that were released during the 80s and early 90s. Them, The Bunnymen, The Cure, Joy Division and a host of other English bands were leagues ahead of most groups here in the U.S. (during that period, in my opinion).

    • @trevorloughlin1492
      @trevorloughlin1492 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously when they tried pop in the case of "Lips Like Sugar" it came out as superior pop with deep overtones. But "Broke My Neck" along with "Fuel" "No Dark Things" and "In Bluer Skies" are examples of the real power of this band. The Noel burke era Bunnymen also has some really deep and powerful songs such as Lady Don't Fall Backwards and the awesome "Flaming Red." The critics will hate me saying this, but they had two great singers. Just another example of how this band had a rhythm section and lead guitarist the equal of Ian's phenomenal talent.
