    Admittedly, flying these things like this requires skill, reflexes, and spatial orientation beyond what most people have. But I don't get the appeal of flopping them around in the air like no real helicopter on earth can do. I'm old school I guess. I enjoy model aircraft that actually look and fly like their real life counterparts.

      Well if you had a grasp of the concept you would change your tune quickly. Just doing the basics like flying inverted , flipping , rolling is so much fun to learn and do. It's a work out for your mind, a fun one.
      I love flying in general don't get me wrong , it takes my mind off daily problems and drawbacks at work, bad management etc. Not many other things can do this for me. I had a kind gentlemen on one of the forums I frequent give me his trex 150 and tons of spares hundreds of dollars worth. I mean who's does such a thing in these days and times. So many great people sharing the same love for something that outsiders might see as a trivial thing.

      Some people like "scale" flying, making it look like a manned aircraft. Some people like to make the models do things that the larger ones can't simply due to the physics of the aircraft and, more importantly, what the human body inside it can't cope with. Whatever, floats your boat. The same can be applied to fixed-wing or boats. By the way, they are real... they're just small.

    The blade caught the parachute before it could fully deploy. Most heli flying is done low so I do not see this as feasible for Heli's. RC Planes definitely.

    Helicopter Pilot's are a very special kind of Krazy! I have taken blade strikes to the chest,and the Shin which was the worse. The blade cut through my jeans like a razor blade. I looked down at my Chopper and noticed the blood flowing into my shoe. 2 tourniquet's,a compression bandage and I went right back to flying with my other Helicopter!!! 3D Helicopter Pilot's are not quitter's,and especially love the "Taste and feel of "PURE ADRENALINE!" COME AND GIT YOU SOME OF THAT,YOU 2 WINGED WUSSIES!"

      i guess you mean fixed wing pilots are wussies ? if so , then i must be a wussie. But you know what , i like to be a wussie just flying fixed wing models and doing so WITHOUT all kind of gyro's like 3D ( and most other ) helicopter pilots do ;-)
      Just enjoy what you fly but also do it in safe way which i am missing in above's display

      First forget chute..... Terrible idea, when the shit goes down its fast even the pros usually cant save tail rotor failure (broke belt etc), heli, radio, batteries, 4Grand plus or minus 1500 depending on running gear.

    why do they always go back to the ground to change the rpm?

    • @ravendarkcloud
      @ravendarkcloud 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some pilots do a little hop to test before a hard 3d flight.

    • @NvTwist
      @NvTwist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NGHTMRE the reason you return to the ground before increasing the rotor speed is so the blades pitch angle can be 0 (flat) . If you throttle up while hovering it will cause the Heil to climb quickly it also put a bigger load spike on the controller. It can be done while flying but to keep Tom looking erratic you have to reduce collective at the same rate of blades speed increases. Short answer safer, looks better & easier.

    • @maxwunderlich7174

  • @NvTwist
    @NvTwist 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The flight of the second Heil was much more present to watch. I understand it's capable of high g loads and crazy maneuvers but it's boring and hard to even keep up with what's going on. The slow technical flight was more satisfying.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video but the display was irresponsible. In any aviation, full size or model, energy plus structural stress plus eroded limits equals accident waiting to happen. It was simply an exercise in showing off and the display organiser needs to look hard at whether this sort of display doesn’t jeopardise all model flying displays. Neither was it attractive to watch.
