Dive more into Punjabi folk music instead of the trending ones and absolutely avoid Bollywood Punjabi music. It's mostly trash. I am not from Punjab ( I am Rajasthani) So maybe someone from Punjab can recommend some good folk music in the comments.
Here's a list that anyone actually from Punjabi will say is very representative of the best Punjabi music new and old. It's not the stuff that gets Bollywood-ified and watered down (which makes it more popular because it's accessible across India, but not that high-quality). This is the stuff actual Punjabis listen to:
Romey Gill has two songs, Pyar, and Jatt, which are both great. Jatt has some slight flamenco vibes

Man, those lowkey, slow, melodic Punjabi songs, including the folk ones, are amazing! They have this hypnotic vibe that just draws you in, and you can't help but keep playing them on repeat. And when it comes to folk songs by great legends like Gurdas Maan, Babbu Maan, Amar Singh Chamkila, Sardool Sikander, Surinder Kaur, Heer Ranjha (Baldev Singh Mast), Harbhajan Mann, Kuldeep Manak, and others, they're on a whole other level. Sure, Punjabi hip-hop and Reggaeton are cool too, but there's something about those traditional tunes that really resonates with me.

Hey guys...you really really need to listen to sartaj . really Punjabi music is so much more than this video 😅.it basically covers only trend like a tiktok famous songs . after the old legends , sartaj is the only Punjabi artist who includes folk element in his songs . Also his songs have amazing lyrics and just basically everything. He uses kinda pure Punjabi(without slang and English /Hindi words) which is pleasant to listen because no one does this nowadays

Despite what's expected, the mainstream pakistani punjabi and indian punjabi music is COMPLETELY different !! Popular punjabi music (in Pakistan) tends to be more "traditional", r&b/ alt or spiritual, than the Indian popular ones (urban, hiphop, rap, commercial etc)
And we Love Pakistani Punjabi music .

Hey, you guys must go for "Hardy Sandhu" ,I'm not a big fan of Punjabi songs but I really like his songs a lot.. always on my playlist..!
So you are right there are definetly atleast two sides to punjabi music, one is is obviously the commerical side (which talks about the generald girls, alcohol, materialist things) and the other side is where the music is much more meaningful in terms of lyrics and the music is also slower and more intrinsic. The commercial side bigger artists as you saw in this videos are Guru Randhawa,, Hardy Sandhu, Siddhu Mossewala and to some extent B Praak also. The other side co-insides with alot of folk music also and that has older artistes such as Gurdas Maan, Surinder Kaur, Sardool Sikander, and cureent ones in Satinder Sartaaj (he has a huge fanbase) and Ammy Virk, Bir Singh. As you should definetly check them all out, worth every miunte honestly. Also, special mention to Jasmine Sandlas cuz she is my favourite artist and one of the few big female singers in punjabi music, she is a big commerical success because of some pretty famous songs but she also has produced her own independent music which is more personal and more meaningful and as she was raised in the USA for a good bit of her life and that influence is also shown in her music and you would hear good english bits too in her music. So please do check them out as I know you will do justice to them... :)

When it comes to South Asian music, for me, Bollywood was at the top esp around 2000s era. But over the years it’s changed and now I’d rank Pakistani, South Indian, Bollywood, Bangladeshi and then Punjabi as apart from the odd song a lot of punjabi music sounds the same
Hindi indie music is far far better than all of them. Indie scene is india is blowing up and I rarely listen to famous artists now. There are so much absolutely incredible hindi indie stuff.
