I own this watch. I kinda enjoy that people think it's crazy to buy one of these haha. Wears like a dream and that whitish tone of the ever brilliant steel really brings out the brushing. I don't mind that it doesn't come with a bracelet. I think these models belong on strap. Not sure the feasibility of making a bracelet out of the ever brilliant steel either. Would probably bring the price up even more. Great video!
I just find the whole song and dance you have to do with bracelets such a hassle. Is it sized right, is it comfortable, should I replace it with another bracelet etc. I'm a strap guy 100%
This model is definitely my grail watch. I don't know if I'll ever be able to purchase one, but you can always dream. Everything is right about the design. And then that petrol blue dial, I mean...wow!
I have three sla043 and one sla017... Been using it. Takes the wrist time of my tudor and submariners... Thinking of flipping those as i prefer 62mas.... Its a dream to wear. I calms my soul... Hihi
They are just over 4k in the UK. I just got a mint 6month old one , still under warranty for just over half that. They are beautifully made, much better than a mast produced bb58 or omega seamaster. And with only 1700 ever made they will be a lot rarer in the future .
I own one of these beautiful sla models . The 043 only fault is the fact that the movement is not regulated. That's it. The blue seconds hand is hardly noticeable as the deep blue dial is just mesmerising. It's also a slim watch as the domed sapphire is about 2mm thick. The 19mm lugs is no problem as all of my 20mm straps fit fine. Obviously a bracelet is a no no , but this watch was born to sit on a strap. I've been collecting watches over 40 years and this watch is as close to perfect as any watch I've seen. I got mine for 2.4k GBP, used, and for that money it's a steal. It's just as well made as a omega or rolex , it's that good. When they first came out with the sla017, I thought seiko were charging stupid money , but looking back now, I realise these sla models are easily comparable to their Swiss rivals. Omega and rolex feel more like a real luxury experience as their boxes etc are nicer. But the build quality on these seikos are just amazing , and you won't regret getting one . If you can't afford a sla , but love the 62mas , then get a 051 or 143. The 051 is an amazing watch and can be picked up for around £500 now used. If you have a large wrist , it's a beautiful watch that will stand the test of time. I love mine , it's a future classic !!!!
I had mine regulated by Seiko and it is pretty close to perfect, +/- 1 or 2 per day. I never have to adjust it. Shows its extraordinary capability as a movement.
Agree with your analysis of who buys this watch. Seems pretty spot-on and indicative of many reasons to appreciate and admire about this 1965-era divers.
I bought this watch from a dealer in Maryland. Got a little discount. Great service from them. This is an unique one from from Seiko. It is basically a grand Seiko with a Seiko name on it. It is a stunning diver. It is a watch you have to touch, wear to appreciate. It has soal. Peter Kosta has a good review on this one also. It is a combo of beauty, and the beast. I am a farmer. I wear this to work some days in my rotation of watches. Not a mark on it. Very tough watch.
I have this watch and love it. The deep blue dial, box crystal, brushed case, and seconds hand are what caught my eye. Although Seiko’s advertised accuracy was nothing special, I’m consistently getting +3.5 or better per day (approx, when using the low tech Watch Tracker app). I also purchased it from a gray dealer at a nice price point, so the $4,000+ cost was a non-issue. My only ding are the straps. They are too long for my tastes, but I understand that’s part of the design aesthetic of traditional Seiko divers. I swapped it out for tropic and Marine Nationale style straps; The drilled lugs make for convenient changes. No regrets - it ticked the price, design (colors, baton indices, lume) and size requirements.
3 years is crazy - I have a 30 year old Seiko that has not had a service and still keeps great time (though if it was worth the same as this watch I would get it serviced). This is a beautiful watch but I would get a GS first.
Yes it’s more, but Rolex recommended service interval is 10 years so basically the Rolex will be cheaper to maintain.. A 3 years service interval is a joke for a brand new watch especially considering how oils have improved.
Uncle Seiko has options at 19mm. Also I suspect that this is going to be another case of where they sell the limited edition with the 8L35 movement at $4,500 and then next year come out with a version that's probably going to be $1,350... Just like the Willard.
Hmmmm Mechanical Automatic Self dater…..MAS I own a Seiko SLA (8L35) model. THAT was expensive as well. But that watch became my daily wearer immediately! All my other Swiss, German, and Japanese watches live their life on the winder now…. I cannot explain how perfect these upper end Seiko’s are…but they are amazing. This watch looks really amazing. I’m not sure if its $4500 worth of watch. But I do know just how good Seiko’s can be. ❤ For the record…Service on a Seamaster is $750. But only 7-10 years for average wear. If you dive a lot, you’ll need a lot more frequently.
Intelligent review. Beautiful watch. Everbrilliant steel is definitely brighter than 904, I'd guess harder too. Re price, expensive, sure. But not bad value: its a better watch in every way than a Tudor, but not a Rolex. It's very near to Omega and priced accordingly. A very reliable workhorse, lifetime movement (last gen Rolex level, but unregulated), absolutely first class case (GO level) and very good dial (above Tudor/Longines, but below Omega, Rolex). An unpretentious, soulful, first class watch. And the best bit, NO PROSPEX LOGO!!
Between 017 and 043, I prefer the dial color of this 043 and the brushed steel on the case including the side. The blue seconds hand needs some getting used to but it pops! The ever brilliant steel and the blue waffle strap option made this a standout.
SO beautiful. Maybe the top of the Sub lug is satin finished vs the brush finished on the 62MAS. Brush finish will reflects light more than the satin finish (or more texture).
Totally agree, like old say that states a guy and his brother own a submariner you won’t see that with this seiko mainly it will be you wearing it absolute beauty.
So do I. Not because of anti Rolex bias, but because I just like the mid-60s aesthetic. I like the case shape, the way they've done the dial, pretty much everything about it. I just wish that Seiko would make this a regular release. And they might. They did a super limited edition Willard and then came out with the regular edition. I hope they do that with this.
7:07 does the bezel line up on this guy or u fix it between clicks? Just curious for 4500$ if Seiko still have this problems. Otherwise this for me personally is one if not the best Seikos ever made.
$397 for service on this $4500 watch is actually affordable. When I collected Rolex 10 years ago, a Sub cost about $6000 and the standard service from Rolex was around $850. Regardless, service every 3 years IS excessive.
Nobody is sending these in for service every three years. I feel like that recommendation is a relic of the Historic Japanese market centric end of the business that operates on a different set of assumptions and standards to the more globally minded Swiss. Seiko and GS are slowly adopting more western oriented product development and service models. But they still appear to pull some head scratchers that don’t that don’t seem that odd if you understand a bit about the expectations in the home market. Seiko would probably be very surprised to see these show up for service at 36 months.
What you said. The 143 or white version of the 1963 is the much better value. Can't see the coin for the '62 but if you are a Seiko collector, maybe the '62 is a must have. I like both watches. The '62 is a special watch.
I think people deem seiko to be the seiko 5 and mall watches they see at macys, little they know seiko covers all price points and I used go abhor their watches for that reason until I tried the turtle padi Pepsi and I got hooked ever since and for me nothing beats seiko for the price point if it is 4500 then it is equivalent to a Swiss that is at least a.5 times the price. One word of advice you need to try to snatch one from preowened excellent market shaving 25%off at least from msrp then you got a winner watch but quality wise it’s hard go go against seiko watches.
Looks cool, but price should be 3000 and not limited edition. Just like the Marine Master, this should be permanent one in the collection. I thought about buying this one from Topper a few times, its exceptional, just, the price isn't right on it.
Sorry to say but this kind of watch should not be more then 1000 dollars. We are so hyped when seiko finally does something the way they suppose to do all their watches.
Apart from the case, it doesn't look at all like 4500. Pip and indices barely look Prospex. Design wise the 63 looks like it has a lot more thought put into it.
Beautiful watch, I considering a Tudor Pelagos as my first (and last) luxury watch, I don't found this one to be on that level on recognition and it could loose value faster than other watches in that price point. With all of its beauty, I agree, this one is mostly for real hardcore Seiko's fans and/or wealthy collectors.
I own bb41 a fine watch but even a marinemaster is better built that it let alone those 55 anniversary sla037,39 and 43 they way better than Rolex let alone a Tudor or omega, just hold one in your hand and you will see
I own a grand seiko diver and Sla039 and Sla039 is way better made except the movement is hi beat but not spring drive other than that it’s better than grand seiko divers because grand seikos mainly do well as dress and casual while high end seiko divers are more suited for diving and better made, at least that’s what I noticed.
I guess your explanation for who would buy this watch makes sense, but most of the luxury watch guys I've known consider Seiko to be junk. I know, I've been told that about Seikos I've worn. But why would someone like me buy this? A Hamilton Scuba is $1000, a Doxa Sub 300 is $2500. Both Swiss made. If I'm going to dip my toes into luxury watches I think it would make sense to stick with a Swiss brand. Or am I wrong?
A doxa or Hamilton don’t compare to high end seikos, I used to be like this until last year now I sold half of my watches and I own proudly 5 seikos, between basic to grand seiko and high end seiko divers trust me quality is unrivaled for the price, omega and Tudor don’t hold a candle to those models which are hand assembled and they retain value if kept for down the road please don’t judge seiko by the mall watches they sell go try one in your hand and see how beautiful they are.
This watch is amazingly beautiful, but I think they need to lower the price as some pieces are going for Grand Seiko prices! With that awful accuracy they need to lower the price or get a better movement in their like a spring drive or a hi beat from grand seiko. One of the best looking divers!
Beatiful watch but 4k for a seiko No Way I can get a Tudor BB58 or Pelagos for that kind of money. So Ill take an SPB143 or 147 and can still get a Tudor BB58 for 4k.
So an SPB143 with a signed crowd, more irregular lug width, less power reserve, and no bracelet. Oh and it’s blue. $4.5k. I’m missing something 😂. But it is beautiful!
Yes you're missing something :) and have surely never handled one in the flesh. These models punch way above their weight and are easily comparable to Swiss watches costing much more, it just has nothing to do with an SPB143 ;)
62MAS is a design masterpiece, unfortunately the Seiko management did not realized this. They should have kept the name and contiune with revisions like what Apple is doing with its phones.
These are a good deal used. That’s what I’m going to buy. For full price new, I’d be buying a BB58, Pelagos, or get into a seamaster. People don’t dive in these things, let alone even wear them half of the time. Why buy new?
Because the quality of these is astonishing, definitely a step above Tudor and easily on par with Omega - which are much more expensive. And finally, the beauty and coolness of this high-end Seiko are in my eyes way above both these two Swiss brands!
Well, I own this, and also a Tudor Black Bay 58 and an Omega Planet Ocean. This Seiko is an exceptional watch and might be my favourite among the three.
Clearly this watch is not for you. It’s another level of watchmaking which I won’t waste my time to explain to you. However, there is other lines you should consider as your reasoning- you clearly have no idea what you are trying to justify here - please take a look at the SNK line, the 5KX or their sister brand orient. These lines would serve someone like you- a person with a lobster apetite but a 2 minute noodle budget. You may have considered this watch but it most certainly has not considered you! Your comment is a typical one from people of the sub continent- lowballing dreamer. Thanks
The only thing wrong with the watch's price is the name on the dial. And don't tell me bracelet, talk to the guys paying 10-12k for a Fifty Fathoms with no bracelet. Is it good value for money? Is any watch? I don't know, what's it worth to you?
I agree with you. As an owner of this watch, I couldn't care less that it didn't come with a bracelet. To capture the true '60s vibe, this thing kills on waffle strap. May not be worth it to most people, but the price tag on this piece is definitely worth it to me. An absolute keeper in my collection
Bingo. Seiko can do everything that the Swiss companies do. They can charge whatever they want for the watch. A person wanting it enough will pay it. There's too much of this "Seiko sucks, can't line up a bezel, cheap mall brand trying to move upmarket, no way that's worth $4,500..." As if all Seiko ever made was $150 SKXs. They literally make everything, in every pricing tier, and this is one of their heritage pieces. Sure they slapped a premium on there, but they're entitled to it. The people that want this for the limited edition and the higher end movement will buy it. The people who want to wait for the $1,300 version that's most likely coming in a year or two will wait.
Too expensive for a watch with non chronometer movement. I bought one a returned after put it on timegraph with +8 Spd accuracy. Tudor black bay divers come as 2 spd all positions
It's a nice watch, but that's a lot to pay for a Seiko name watch. For the guy (or girl?) who has every other Seiko watch ever made and can't sleep without completing the collection?
$4500...I don't F*****G think so. Look at what else the market has for this price...you can get 2 watches that are twice the watch this is for that money.
I respect your opinion, but which two watches? Special steel and exquisite brushing are only a couple things that makes this watch great imo. I guarantee you people wouldn't have a problem with this watch if it had a different name on the dial. It is certainly a favorite in my collection and compares favorably with my other higher end pieces.
Kudos for those who bought this. I wouldn’t. 3 issues: 1, too thick. 2, almost straight lugs (coupled with the thickness make this wear top heavy on wrist and flops around too much). 3, no bracelet, the rubber is not going to balance the weight therefore makes the top heavy problem even worse.
Seiko could have made a better box rather than providing a paperbox. I got a used one at almost half the retail price of a new piece. Looks good in real life, but i personally think it is overpriced. No metal bracelet and lastly, a Seiko will always just be a Seiko nothing more. No luxurious feel or status even though they are priced at Tudor/Omega price point.
100%. This watch looks best on a strap!
The price was high but damn does it look good. Wish they were still available
It's a great watch, you can try and source out a SLA017 bracelet, I own this one, the SLA017 and the 037.
The domed glass and ceramic bezel is what does it for me
I just find the whole song and dance you have to do with bracelets such a hassle.
Talk about stealth wealth, a $4k Seiko with just date complication. More power to whoever picks one of these bad boys up.
In this price range you can get either a Tudor Black Bay, Oris Aqua Date, Tudor Pelagos and maybe even a Seamaster.
I have three sla043 and one sla017... Been using it. Takes the wrist time of my tudor and submariners... Thinking of flipping those as i prefer 62mas.... Its a dream to wear. I calms my soul... Hihi
@@jimmason8502 True, but none of the mentioned watches can nearly touch this Seiko for style, craftsmanship and coolness!

Great watch from a fantastic AD. Thanks for the review Rob!
The case finish is amazing. I saw another of the special edition SLA models at a AD. Just a stunning watch.
Have had the SLA037 for a year on the wrist non-stop and there’s no going back.
The SLA37 is a beautiful watch, well done
I have the sla039 it does lap dance all day around the overrated artificially scarce submariner
I have that same watch . I kept thinking about how much I really like my SLA037 with hi-beat movement. Smoothest second hand around !!!
Most beautiful watches and even for my7 inch wrist still looks good quality of double the price for sure and a classic.
Love my 037, gets more wrist time than my Rolexes
I have this model and so far I have no complaints whatsoever. Love everything about this watch.
For that price it needs to come with a bracelet and the straps.
Agree with your analysis of who buys this watch. Seems pretty spot-on and indicative of many reasons to appreciate and admire about this 1965-era divers.

3 years is crazy - I have a 30 year old Seiko that has not had a service and still keeps great time (though if it was worth the same as this watch I would get it serviced). This is a beautiful watch but I would get a GS first.
Good lord. I handled one in person and it’s just amazing. If it was $2500 I’d buy it in a heartbeat
Thinking the exact same thing, lemme just settle for a spb205
That Seiko kills the rolex sub looks wise, sorry to say. Also, how much is it to service a rolex movement? I would assume it's much more than $396.
Yes it’s more, but Rolex recommended service interval is 10 years so basically the Rolex will be cheaper to maintain.. A 3 years service interval is a joke for a brand new watch especially considering how oils have improved.
Looks are subjective, and I’ve been wearing my sub for over ten years without being serviced and runs perfectly.
The 19mm strap width kills it for me... sad because its a good looking watch, oh yeah $4500 is also a tough hill to climb
If you have that much money to spend on a watch you will have money to buy couple of straps of 19mm for the watch.
Uncle Seiko has options at 19mm. Also I suspect that this is going to be another case of where they sell the limited edition with the 8L35 movement at $4,500 and then next year come out with a version that's probably going to be $1,350... Just like the Willard.
Just get a file and have a go at the inner lugs 😂. Soon be 20mm

@@entroheat why didn't they make this a Grand Seiko to justify the price? It just lacks the badge and perhaps a bracelet option. Certainly looks nice.
@@almac9203 because if you know history this is a r edition and seiko divers are in general better than grand seiko divers and I own both that’s why
The original 62mas sure wasn't 4500$
A restored vintage one could be though
Cool watch
Beautiful watch but it definitely needs to come on a bracelet with extra straps
You'd go for this over a Grand Seiko diver? You're right, Rob, it is just you.
You are not wrong. I do know few guys that buy Seiko like this. They also have higher luxury too. So it just comes down to what you like mostly.
Man, $4k is a tough pill to swallow here. Make this $2500 or so and now we're talking.
I can buy a 1988 62mas for $200 aud is it worth it
This watch is amazingly beautiful, but I think they need to lower the price as some pieces are going for Grand Seiko prices!
$4500 I'm thinking Omega Planet Ocean 🤔 for me anyway. Did the bezel even line up?
Can you get a mint condition Omega PO for $4.5k? Seems a bit cheap.
@@almac9203 I know I didn't mention it but I was talking used. I've seen them for $4000‐$6600.
ITs super nice , but for $4k Seiko isn't giving you a Grand Seiko watch. It's just a touch above their autos in dept stores imo....
I had a 1974 model diver by seiko
Liked it much better price 75$....
Nice watch. As with typical Seiko quality control, the bezel is out of alignment.
I don't get why they can't sort the alignment out. Surely can't be that difficult.
I wish that copmare with Sla037 because nobody does that cheers.
Stealth wealth, undecided if it's the good type though.
It's a beautiful watch but for $4500 I'm getting Omega or Tudor.
This or the 2021 breitling superocean chronometer 42mm?
Breitling all day
@@RandomRobReviews 🙏
Looks nice but 4500 it better have GS logo on it.
62MAS is a design masterpiece, unfortunately the Seiko management did not realized this. They should have kept the name and contiune with revisions like what Apple is doing with its phones.
great video
great watch,...not worth the money. Huge Seiko fan but a Tudor BB58 or Grand Seiko used is a better deal
These are a good deal used. That’s what I’m going to buy. For full price new, I’d be buying a BB58, Pelagos, or get into a seamaster. People don’t dive in these things, let alone even wear them half of the time. Why buy new?
That movement should be much more accurate out of the box - for that kind of money it has to compete with more accurate movements.
These look nice, but I don't know why anyone would spend $4.5K on the limited edition blue when you could buy a Tudor or Omega for that price.
This Seiko is an exceptional watch and might be my favourite among the three.
it's too expensive ,4k $ . I would buy 63mas for 1200 $ and with 4500 $ I can buy one omega 38mm. do you agree with me ?
Clearly this watch is not for you. It’s another level of watchmaking which I won’t waste my time to explain to you. However, there is other lines you should consider as your reasoning- you clearly have no idea what you are trying to justify here - please take a look at the SNK line, the 5KX or their sister brand orient. These lines would serve someone like you- a person with a lobster apetite but a 2 minute noodle budget.
You may have considered this watch but it most certainly has not considered you! Your comment is a typical one from people of the sub continent- lowballing dreamer.
Thanks
@@ricopuckett8418 today i like seiko SLA037 ,
@@karansabz you can like it all you want, but it doesn’t like you!
Only seiko One watch collection type piece ...
To expensive. For that price I'd expect spring drive movement and bracelet. That's almost Swiss price.
I really like this watch but for the money would obviously go elsewhere
A yellow 2nd hand would have been awesome in my opinion.
@JJ Buckmaster That is true. I might try and find a used one and let someone else take the depreciation hit.
Too expensive for a watch with non chronometer movement. I bought one a returned after put it on timegraph with +8 Spd accuracy. Tudor black bay divers come as 2 spd all positions
👍🏻👍🏻
It's a nice watch, but that's a lot to pay for a Seiko name watch. For the guy (or girl?) who has every other Seiko watch ever made and can't sleep without completing the collection?
$4500? No. Way. Good looking watch but absolutely ridiculously overpriced.
Agree...I'm obviously in the minority here, but for me it is a very unremarkable and plain looking watch for that outlay.
Seiko again lol 🤣😆😆😂😂
All Seiko now. JK
4. It costs $4.5K
good video at 1.75x playback. 😂
Thanks for watching, even at fast forward haha
That's an awfully pretty watch for an awful lot of money.
I own Seikos and although this a stunning example, it is incredibly overpriced.
Beautiful watch🔥 but way too much.
