Love these pictures! My grandfather was in WWII fighting in Italy and France. 36th Infantry Division. He was injured in France, captured, and became a POW. He's 99 years old and in remarkable health. He occasionally gives talks about his experiences.

My Dad was wounded in The Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart. He was US Army, 28th Division. Wish he was still here. He would have loved to see all these great photos.

The images of that time convey the scale of human suffering felt on all sides..the images of the now transport the past into the present, suddenly decades distanced have become only yesterday..we two generations were not so different...their struggle in war became our peace, may it prevail forever in their name. I truly hope so. So many brave German soldiers gave their lives fighting for their country, not for facism. There is a definite distinction between the two and any soldier will lay down their life for their country and fellow soldier will have always have my respect. I'm American, but I'm very proud of my German heritage. Bless all the men and women that sacrificed so much for this horrible conflict.

These short videos reach the core of our souls unlike all the history books and films and lessons in school… amazingly how emotional a simple assemblage can be. It’s sad to realize that those people are gone and we ( now ) are left with nothing but their images ( then ).
I'm gonna cry for these soldiers who sacrifice their lives just to save us from WW2 and the music is so beautiful 😢

I feel a hole in my heart everytime i see this every soldier that faught for they lives for they country and no longer are alive is so sad i could travel at every place like this and take photo's but still i respect them

I truly hope so. So many brave German soldiers gave their lives fighting for their country, not for facism. There is a definite distinction between the two and any soldier will lay down their life for their country and fellow soldier will have always have my respect. I'm American, but I'm very proud of my German heritage.
Bless all the men and women that sacrificed so much for this horrible conflict.

met many ger. army survivors in my 80s time in berlin but you could see about 3 to 1 women over men in that generation

❤ ALOT of them EVEN from 19-20's are NOW LOVELY SENIORS living in Licensed Assisted Facilities, Licensed Home Care, Nursing Homes, and Home Assisted living. SOME ARE VERY much ALIVE! The rest as you say who GAVE their lives are definitely Free SPIRITS with US and resting in peace at all the fancy MEMORIAL Cemeteries. 👍

Lying in my bed here at the VA Hospital ...not only crying over my pictures , but crying for these also ...freedom is not free , there is no glory in war , unfortunately all those lives were lost , body parts are missing and we have not learned a darn thing ....all for nothing ....😢😢😢😢
