I know. I watched this before but Funk just died and I am here again. There are a few wrestlers who I always liked and respected. Valentine was one those. I always saw him as a top midcard guy who needed to be beat convincingly to make to the top. Greg was that good, you believed him

He seems so nice, I wonder if he was able to keep up the heel sneer when spotted in public. Guess not. I remember hanging around the auditorium entrance early and watching the wrestlers riding up and carrying their bags in. The heels would stay in character and not sign autographs. I got Buddy Rogers' autograph by asking for it when no one was around. He didn't have to keep up his arrogant persona.

A lot of people think that Terry Funk all around was the best to ever do it. I'm one of those people.

The first thing I saw of Valentine was the build to the first Starrcade. He was so good in both the build and then of course that match. So good that even though 12 year old me rooted for Piper it was hard to hate Valentine because he was so good. So for me while I still wanted him to lose to JYD at Wrestlemania I always wanted them to do more with him post Dream Team. Rhythm & Blues and face Valentine were a waste of him. I know everyone loves the Garvin matches but the story was so hokey and Garvin wasn't nearly as over as a face as he was in 1986 so nobody cared.
Thanks Hammer for all the hours of making me believe.

Abdullah The Butcher did the same thing to Superstar Billy Graham when he gave him $300.
Years later Abdullah saw Superstar and asked him: "By the way, do you have that $300 you owe me?"

Abdullah loaned him $50! I love it! I think Valentine was natural, not a steroid user. I really respect that because most of them took it in his time. You can tell by his physique. Just lifted heavy and ate food like Bruno.

I remember Greg wrestling for the Amarillo territory back in the 70's. I got to watch him several times when they would bring shows to the local arena. Pretty sure he wrestled under another name at the time but I can't remember what. But they were great shows.

@@aaronroyal9449 Thanks for jogging my memory. Greg was working primarily with tag team partner as Don and Johnny Fargo if I'm not mistaken. I remember a great match they had with the Kozak brothers at the local arena. I really miss the days when we could see wrestling locally.

@@waynewilson2365 I never got to see him as a Fargo but I try to learn as much about other territories and pre territory days as I can. I grew up on late 70s early 80s Championship Wrestling from Florida so I know exactly what you mean. Most areas have good indys if you look for them but it's just not the same.

@@aaronroyal9449 Since the Amarillo territory shut down we haven't had local wrestling shows. Years ago WCW did a show and I had the chance to work security for the Sheriff's office. I got to escort wrestlers to the ring including Tommy Rich and Mick Foley (as Cactus Jack). Great time. Last time I got to see wrestling live.

@@waynewilson2365 man that sucks. If you ever make it to the east side it seems like the Dallas area us showing a little life. Glad you got to that with WCW. I did some announcing and booking for local Indies in the late 90s early 2000s. Never got any further but got to meet and work with guys like Lawler and Heenan. And guys before they made it big like AJ, Punk, MVP, Roderick Strong. I miss those times but I miss being an 8 year old fan on the floor at the Tampa Armory just as much, maybe more.

Greg is telling the true about Abby. I got 2 dollars from him at a wrestling show in Baltimore or should I say Hagerstown,Md on a Dick Carakoff show in 1987. I ran in to Abdullah in Georgia after a show ,we went to his Soul Food and Chinese Restaurant and he noticed I was in the eating and he added the 2 dollars to my bill and that was in 2003. I still love you Abbey and he kept my Wrestling picture on the walls of his Store with every other Wrestler known to man. Great food too. I think he sold the Restaurant after Hannibal sued him for blading him. Abbey sold the store so he didn't have to pay Hannibal the 2,3 Million dollar settlement. He may be old but he is not dumb when it comes to his money. Love you Big Guy.
