@@AlexxaReacts I think shows part of the gritty reality that the people who are willing to manipulate are the ones who move ahead in this story. The innocent woman died and the faithful husband is Mister Cellophane.

@niani8359 more than that, Chicago in the 1920's was not a good time to be an immigrant. They had just been rocked by the Spanish flu, and they believed foreigners were to blame. So the innocent woman basically stood no chance.

The older lady smoking a cigarette talking to Roxie when she was being booked in jail was played by Chita Rivera. Who not only played the original Velma Kelly on Broadway, but was also in the original casts of classic Broadway hits like West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, and more. She's an absolute legend. (And funny as well as delightful. I was lucky enough to meet her once.)

Catherine Zeta Jones really deserved her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this. Especially doing some of those dance sequences while she was pregnant!
In terms of a recommendation, Netflix released the movie of Matilda the musical at the end of last year. It's so good. Its based on the book not the 90s movie (hence why it's english). But the stage show has been running in the West End for over a decade. The music is awesome and the kids are so talented

She was NOT pregnant while filming. That is an urban legend that will not die. She was pregnant with Carys when she accepted the Oscar in April 2003. Filming took place Dec 10, 2001 - May 2002. She got pregnant a couple of months AFTER they filmed.

Now that's the way you react to a movie! Excellent job Alexxa. You appreciated it for all of its fantastic elements, the singing, dancing, acting, plot twists, dialogue, music. One of the best musicals put on film of all time. I am an audio describer for the blind and have described 260 plays over the years, and have done Chicago produced by local theatre groups and the Broadway touring shows that are constantly revived. This film beats them all. Catherine Zeta Jones IS superwoman. Renee Zellwegger was new to the singing and dancing and did a marvelous job. Thanks for your fun reaction.

Amazing, the story of the best stories winning over the truth. Especially with the beautiful polish lady who was not guilty and died for being honest. Tells the story that you have to put up a fight, and a lawyer who knew the exact ploy to get anyone out. The musical pieces in this are out of this world. I especially love "what ever happened" sang by Catherine Zeta and Latifah when Roxie gets famous.

When Chicago was first on Broadway in the 70s a lot of people were turned off by how cynical it was. It was very successful, but left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. The 1997 revival was a huge hit, because by that time, the concept of spinning tacky notoriety into media celebrity was all too common. (*cough*kardashian*cough*)

Catherine Zeta-Jones got an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and Zellweger got a Golden Globe for Best Actress. Richard Geer started in the theater and was in Grease, he was not the star, but the next guy the one played by Jeff Conaway in the movie. Geer was also a gymnast; he plays Coronet and Piano. He played both in "Cotton Club". She has been in jail for months and isn't' showing so it isn't anyone's baby.
