Shout out to the whole crew - great editing, lighting, camera work, everything works really well together and you guys should be proud of yourselves. Y'all really do deserve Lego sets for the holidays this year!
After blending the chilies, the (meatless) broth freezes very well. I portion it into mason jars and freeze until needed. Makes it very easy to assemble this soup during the week with leftover rotisserie chicken (or any protein).
@PJB i keep forgetting that you work for free and also assume you always forego your annual bonus- oh, you are not? Well shut the f up and sit down smartass
I am Mexican too and i agree with both of you. And I'd add some lettuce, but that's just a personal taste, I like most of soups with lettuce, onion and some slices of tomato.
Made this tonight, took just about 1 hour 40min total and was incredible. This recipe knocks it way way out of the park dude. Served 5 with leftovers and people went back for seconds. Really excellent!
Tortilla soup is the perfect winter food! Gotta have the lime and avocado - I also love a dollop of sour cream (cuz I'm a wuss when it comes to spicy). You really sold the home-fried tortilla chips.
@@Analogist912 Boo! That would make me sad. I know they sell frozen here by the frozen fruit. No idea what they are like, especially texture, but maybe you can make a guac kind of thing with them???
Just saying AGAIN the cookbook is so worth it. Takes your cooking and baking up a notch and it’s homemade. It’s my go to cookbook right now. I love that the ingredients are in order of use on the list and the directions are easy and funny at times 😆 Also love that each ingredient is by weight. Makes the recipes fool proof.
its a great book, simple and easy to use-- great way to learn a lot of foundations that you'll use everywhere. i worked in kitchens for a decade and this book is still relevant to me.
It's a great weeknight soup too. Using some leftover chicken (I'll do a few rotisserie chickens early in the week) and some black beans as well. Also I'll make a batch of Chile paste and keep that in the fridge for a few weeks to use for enchiladas, chili, tortilla soup, etc. Still you NEED those fresh Chile flavors. I've also added some masa if I want it thicker as well.
Love it! if you wanted to make it Authentic Mexico City Style tortilla soup, use crumbled queso fresco or Cotija on top as a topping as opposed to the bottom, and add a dollop of Crema and some Crumbled Chicharrones.
Made this tonight.. followed recipe exactly... OMG...it was awesome!! Perfect winter food. We even made homemade corn tortillas then fried them..great recipe! Thanks!!
I’m not Mexican but my husband is and we both LOVE this dish. Our son has made it for us several times. The flavor is amazing and full. I don’t eat it with the corn but my husband does. This recipe is a keeper.
The way you cook mexican dishes is amaaaaazing tbh, love it!!! (I'm mexican btw) let me give you sir the mexican nationality, from now on You are Josué Guaisman
The crunchy sound of the tortilla is unbelievably tempting💕 Well it’s midnight in 🇯🇵, gotta manage myself to sleep thinking “I’m craving for tortilla so badly..!”😂💓
Could you try doing empanadas? there are many types, ways and varieties; some are cheesy, fishy or meaty, can have seafood, vegetables, fried or baked, etc. should be good content.
I made this tonight and it was awesome. So many chicken tortilla soups are thin and accompany a meal. This IS the meal. I had really small Serranos so I used three. Perfect heat level. I will be making this regularly. Thanks Josh.
Ok so thank you so much Josh I know it’s sounds like a bunch of bs but you and the crew help me out so much through cooking and my sadness after my grandmother passed away so THANK YOU!!!
I made this soup today after watching this video because of course I started craving it lol. This recipe was fantastic! I did substitute the dried chiles for chile powder and chipotle chile powder and I had to use canned corn this time, but I want to try that method next time! My family is in a quarantine at the moment because grandpa tested positive for covid. They loved the soup, I had fun making it for them, and it made grandpa feel a bit better, so thank you 🙏🏻❤️
Josh, I never leave comments for anything, mostly because i don't think anyone really gives a shit as to what i think about a video. I feel obligated to leave one here in hopes YOU would read it. This is one of the most delicious things I have ever made and I want to thank you. My son, who loves spicy food is floored. "super dank" was his assessment. Thank you for doing what you do, your recipes bring so much joy to me and to everyone that eats my food ( made from YOUR recipes , presented in the best, funniest way possible). Much love to you, your crew and your loved ones. Thank you! happy holidays!!!
This is one of my favorite videos from Josh lately. I already have a chicken tortilla soup recipie that I like, but I'll probably give this one a try too just because it isn't too hard and it looks really good. Thank you thank you thank you for using Serrano and not Jalapeno peppers. Jalapenos are so waxy and have this overwhelming flavor. Serranos are almost the same heat level but the flavor is much more my style. One thing tho- no beans? I don't even like beans but Imo a tortilla soup really needs black beans.
LOVING the recent fancy plates. Really enjoy that I can watch a recipe and with relatively few tweaks impress everybody with them. Kind of makes it more accessible
@@cuteandsingle I don't know if you saw it, but there's a video he did last year or the year before with another chef on TH-cam where he made a ridiculously complicated and expensive, Michelin-star sort of burger. That's the sort of thing I'm all for.
My family loves when I make this soup and they request it at least once a week. I can’t be mad, it’s one of my favorites too. I usually add several Chile de arbol with the guijillo and top with extra Serrano/jalapeño and onion and cilantro. I also put a bunch of cilantro on top of the soup after adding the chicken and let it simmer the rest of the time and take it out before serving.
I have made this several times and it is amazing. So glad to have found this recipe because all other recipes on YT for this aren’t it. I suggest 1 serrano pepper instead of 2. Don’t burn your pallet lol.
We need a But Better vs a japanese steakhouse / hibachi restaurant like Miyabi's. Should be a much better challenge than a fast food chain and I doubt you can get the "shrimp" / "yum-yum" / "white" sauce right. Upvote if you agree and want to see Josh really get put to the test!
This recipe is fantastic. Been enjoying it for a few years as is. Decided today to mix Josh's and Rick Bayless' recipe which is much more traditional and has you toast the dried peppers, caramelize the onions and garlic a bit then blend it all together with the fire roasted tomatos and fry the paste off like a mexican salsa. Put that together with the rest of this recipes bacon, spices, corn cob fortified chicken stock and it's out of bounds.
I’ve said it for years… food is better when you make it. The best part is that it isn’t hard! If you’re a budding cook or a seasoned chef, Joshua’s book is one you want in collection.

I just have to say this is the recipe that drew me into this channel. It's amazing. Really well done and fun to cook.
