    RE: "large format"
    There seems to be some who are upset by my liberal use of "large format" in classifying this camera and have questioned my credibility. To clarify, in Fujifilm vernacular, medium and large format are interchangeable, and they have classified the GFX50SII and even the GFX100S as large format (feel free to check their website). I am aware of the actual technical definition/classification of medium and large format cameras from film to digital, and have actually asked Fuji about this regarding the GFX50SII. In the end I chose to align with Fuji's definition so as to avoid confusion, although I did try to balance it out by using "medium format" in this video's title. This was a conscious choice on my end and I apologize for any misunderstanding.
    Hope this clarifies things.

      Medium Format are the 6x4, 6x6 which is on par with the Fuji and Hassy etc medium format cameras. Phase one etc are what are supposed to be large format digital sensors. I guess it all depends on what you call a normal sensor and compare it to what most people are using. So potentially the Fuji would be a large format sensor. I like the Fuji - cost effective. I like the panorama mode. I think the camera could do with being a little faster in the FPS. I am sure the image quality is great, but hopefully when I test the new one the speed of writing the images to the cards has improved. If I need to snap shot then I would rather it be written quickly and FPS is not so important.

      the GFX system is medium format - not large format. The term 'large format' should not be used at all in connection with the GFX system. I use the GFX 50s. Thanks

    • @NoelGuevara
      @NoelGuevara  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Malcolm, you're not wrong and I agree. But better tell that to Fuji too. A quick visit to their GFX100S and you'll see how they also use large format.
      Again, not saying you're wrong just because they said it, but I feel it's their proprietary naming convention. And I just wanted to avoid confusion. Turns out it happens either way.

      @@NoelGuevara Thank you - I will. I feel that by falling in with Fuji in misusing the term 'large format' on such big platform as youtube, the confusion is magnified. As you did the review - may be you should tell them. I am all for Fuji, but having used large format for many years, the GFX system is not large format. It is medium format.

    Hey mate, I love your project to overseas. Well done. I'm looking at a GFX camera I've been using a Nikon D8 50 and now a Fujifilm XT5 I'm planning to keep the Fujifilm XT5 as I really love that as a smaller footprint camera that I can just go out and do street Photography few portraits just simple job jobs and for video as well. I'm really looking at buying this camera for a landscape camera as I don't use my Nikon 850 any more as much now that you've had this camera for awhile I'm just wondering two years ago on what's it like for you?

      I think the XT5 is more versatile, and works well with landscape photography if you shoot in panorama.

      Oh I KNOW! I think as it sits now Fuji should have priced this at $3499 USD. Really the only thing different is IBIS and a few tweaks here and there. I'm looking to scoop up a used GFX50r they are going on Ebay in good condition for under 3k all day long.

    • @D800Lover
      @D800Lover 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdpst20 - Yep, the IBIS thing is good and would have been even better with a better (newer) sensor that is dated back to Hasselblad using it in 2014. In that case, a cheap 50r makes much more sense.

    • @jdpst20
      @jdpst20 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@D800Lover I want to even say it's the same sensor in a Pentax 645z? I could be wrong but it's also 50.1 or something MP. If they priced it at $3999 I think they could have at least put a new sensor in it to allow 4k30p video recording. I know I know it's not a Vid camera but it's modern day features that people want. As a "Budget" medium format camera I think the above price with older tech would make more sense. You essentially paying for a new processor and IBIS and body athletics.
      I really Hope I can snag a 50r next year with at least one lens for some landscape and portraits I don't think I would really need the IBIS. I used the original Hasselblad X1D and even though it was slow it produced incredible images.

      Sorry late reply Bart. Was out on assignment for a long time. I'd say the A7RIV has better dynamic range at 15 stops. The GFX50SII is more of a specialized/specialty camera as opposed to the A7RIV which is a hybrid workhorse.

    Why are u calling it large format. The previous cameras in the lineup were medium format

    • @NoelGuevara
      @NoelGuevara  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is because in Fujifilm vernacular, large format and medium format are interchangeable. You are correct--technically speaking this would be medium format while the GFX100s is more large format and I was torn whether to be technical about it or align with Fujifilm. I chose the latter but still interchanged both. In the video I call it large format, but used medium format for the video title.

    • @briangc1972
      @briangc1972 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NoelGuevara The GFX100s uses the same size sensor, so you are incorrect in saying that the GFX100s is large format. A professional photographer should at least know what the differences are in the various formats.... The terms are not interchangeable, the terms refer to the actual measured physical size of the image capturing media; whether film or digital.

    • @NoelGuevara
      @NoelGuevara  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@briangc1972 Hi Brian, I'll nip this in the bud right now. Frankly I'm astounded by how rudely you chose to discuss this matter with me. Kindness is a skill, practice it until it becomes you. I won't take this tone, though; I'll reply to you as nicely as I can:
      I am aware of the different sizes--I teach photography. Fair enough that you'd assume that I don't know what I'm talking about after your observation. I also agree that they aren't interchangeable from a technical standpoint. But like I said, the official brief and white paper I received from Fujfilm specifically indicated large format. I brought this up and asked them if it shouldn't be medium format, and they explained that from a Fuji standpoint they were interchangeable. I could give you a copy of the release and the white paper if you want.
      While producing this video, I was on the fence on whether to call it what it really is, or follow through with their classification. Since in the campaign video (to be released soon), I already wrote the script out as large format, I decided to follow through.
      Now, I apologize for any confusion this causes, and maybe I should've just called a spade, a spade. I'm also not shifting the blame to Fuji as this was my decision--all errors I will own. I tried to balance this out by writing out the title as medium format, and my review is still on point regardless of how you'd choose to accept it.

    • @icogicog8287
      @icogicog8287 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not sure why people seem a bit hung up on the medium format/ large format nomenclature. It is just that, words. Grant you that Fuji kind of started this when the started talking about “large format “ I believe with the 100. I believe Hasselblad and Mamya use same(similar) sensor and call them medium format. In the end all the same: Fuji at the moment dominates the word of highly portable, weather sealed, reasonably fast AF, larger than FF( by quite a bit) with superior image quality output. If you shoot sport/wildlife you likely will go with Sony, Canon, Nikon. If you need ultimate image output in a very controlled environment you’ll use a 40K Phase One.

    • @briangc1972
      @briangc1972 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@icogicog8287 The reason the nomenclature is important and the reason for the response is the same as if he kept referring to a micro4/3 sensor as full frame. The Fuji sensor is smaller than true medium format and calling it large format is being downright dishonest.
