I've been doing this w my a6400 x 20mm 2.8 and it's actually a super fun + powerful little combo 🤘🏼
I also have an a6400 w/20mm F2.8 (and other stuff). I have not seen output from Fujis up to a couple of years ago that I felt were outside of what my Sony could produce. These last couple of years, I have not been keeping up with the changes. Since I have not seen capabilities that seem to add anything substantial, I have not looked at new stuff in detail.
Pancake lens revival! We need more pancake lenses
The a6000 still has better auto focus than the x100iv 😅😂
Is it really that bad? I have a X100s and compared to my Nikon 1 j5 the autofocus is from the stone age on the Fuji. Which is insane considering the cost of the X100s and you'd think the Autofocus has gotten better in the last 10 years.
It has gotten better but still even the recent ones aren’t as good as the a6000. And they seem to make it worse with every firmware lately.
Ha! I can’t attest 100% but in my limited Fuji experience you are spot on. Pretty crazy that a cute camera has started such a ruckus. I admit I love the look this have the silver a7cii as my backup with a pancake, but at least it’s still versatile and reliable 😂
I'm Using X-T4 with Fringer Adaptor and canon 24mm pancake lens ... Without any AF issue from long while....
And One major Advantage I can Charge my camera while shooting you can't your sony
for real ? i tried A6000 vs A6400 with tamron 17-70, and ewwwww...and A6000 AF ewww. So it means 6400 more superior than X100 LOL
I got rid of my Fuji gas by combining an A7C and the Sony 40mm f2.5 lens. Had the Samyang 35 f2.8 before that for an event more compact setup, but I like the ergonomics and focal length of the 40mm. Not necessarily "cheaper" but... available and worlds better autofocus. I also previously combined an A6400 with that Sony 20mm f2.8 which was also great.
Thanks for this comment! I've been considering the Samyang 35mm or the Sony 40mm for my A7C and this helped me decide.
Some others also mentioned it but I wanna also confirm that the A6000 has Creative Styles! It does require a little menu dig though: Menu > Tab 1 (Camera icon) > Page 4 > Creative Styles
I don't think it's due to a firmware update being needed since my NEX-5N, NEX-5T, and RX100II have it as well and I doubt they'd take it out of the A6000 and then put it back.
Checking A6000s for firmware updates is important though, gotta make sure you're not missing out on XAVC-S!
The new Viltrox full frame pancake also looks interesting!
did a similar thing but got the fuji x-t30 with the 27mm pancake lens. Still got the fuji colors + interchangeable lens + cheaper and easier to find than the x100vi
I tried doing this with my A6400. Fantastic camera with autofocus that is superior to the X100VI.
In the end I just bought a X100VI. They are incomparable. The X100VI’s controls are the best thing about it. It’s such an enjoyable camera to use.
The SOOC images are fantastic as well. I spend so much time in Lightroom for work that it’s nice to be able to get great images for personal use from this camera. The built in raw converter is there if I need to tweak images.
I find the X-Trans sensors to have poor low light performance. When it’s dark and I’m shooting with a 1/60 shutter speed or above, I consider this a black and white camera. The IBIS is great, so for static shots and I can hand hold down to a second.
The X100VI’s price is super high, the autofocus isn’t competitive, and the high ISO performance is poor (1600 is my personal max for color, but really it starts becoming noticeable above 800).
The X100VI is a professional photographers toy, whereas these Sony A6XX cameras can do it all.
Just beginning to adjust my A6000 DRO/Auto HDR and Creative Style options in the menus. I am liking the possible options for portrait and landscape work. Colors have improved! I have spent the last two years looking for that Sony 20mm lens at a decent price. Yes, got caught with same issue this video addresses. Finally chose the TTArtisan 27mm 2.8.
Arthur may be you can explore a bit more on the say A6700 creative styles and how to match to Fujifilm colors or something more special.
I was thinking the same thing. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of content out there comparing the two. Or videos on the creative styles at all.
Many have tried. Can't be done
FWIW, I did a side-by-side with my A6700 and a brand new X100vi -- the Sony "natural" JPEG style was virtually indistinguishable from Fuji Provia, at least to my eye. I preferred the Fuji Velvia over Sony Vivid1 but not Vivid2 which was very close. The same for the B&W variations. I did this over the course of an afternoon and didn't really try to dial in the subtle adjustments which are possible in each style but if someone had the patience he could probably get very close to most of the Fuji film simulations with in-camera Sony JPEGs. I ended up returning the X100vi, concluding that the buzz around that camera was more hype than real and that the A6700 was superior in every way, at least to my taste.
If you search Sony film simulations, there is one guy who made a channel to publish his research using picture profiles to make tons of extremely accurate film simulations 👍
VeresAlex lays out a good to merhod for custom Sony color. Check it out.
Great vid bro, I use that same lens 20mm F/2.8 with my Sony NEX-6 for the smallest form factor also. BTW you can adjust for the bluish cast from the A6000 in the white balance fine adjustment setting. I push all my sony cameras 2 points towards magenta. Hope that helps, Thanks for sharing.
Got an A6000 for 200 bucks on b&h, ten years old and well used. I didn’t expect much, but discovered it is a kick-bass camera if you can live with the non-flipping screen. Bit on the A6700 four months later, and that is now my daily go-to, but I still reach for the A6000 for panoramas and exposure bracket composites that I don’t have to stitch together in post: the A6000 spits it all out in one file. Great idea here, never considered this a candidate for comparing to the X100VI, but it is.
So happy to see the 20mm f/2.8 getting some love. I got one second hand for about $200 and it's been one of my favorite lenses to shoot with ever since.
Literally my regular setup 😂
Your TH-cam post is a welcome sight just as I'm combining that lens (20mm f2.8 fancake) with my tiny zv-e10 to take street photos.
I WAS THINKING OF THIS!!! GREAT IDEA ARTHUR!!!
Samyang 35mm 2.8 is also great for small setup 😊
I had the X100V for a few years and liked it, did eventually want more focal lengths, so switched to the a6700.
Steven just took it out of my mouth: TTArtisans 27/2.8. I took delivery of it just the other day to pair it for "pocketability" with my NEX-6, which is even more compact than a6000. Slight disappointment with the TT. It does not like continuous focus at all for apertures 5.6 and above. Single focus works fine. I'm keeping it nonetheless because It has no problems on my new a6700 in any focussing mode. TTArtisans says too bad for the old camera.
Instead of buying the biggest and badest cameras, we are looking to find the smallest, within reason, that can be stuffed in a pocket. There are a few, the ZV-1 is perfect with a built in zoom. The a6700 is perfect with that TTArtisan lens. I got one and it works very well and is quite sharp. But with all these YT creators, we get confused with simply pushing a camera vs finding solutions to better photography. I think Arthur does a great job. And he points out that it is not necessary to buy the latest as if it is the best and there are other ways of getting what we want. Anything smaller than my Nikon F2 is greatly appreciated. I love my a6700 but am getting to love my A7CR a little more. They are so close to being the same size that I often confuse the two. That and some of the very compact lenses Sony has out and even using the TTArtisan 27mm lens will work fine in many situations.
There are many interchangeable lens cameras with pancake lens options from different systems, however what makes X100 series special are optical viewfinder and leaf shutter
This is true, no Sony camera will give you the nearly silent leaf shutter or the hybrid EVF. Or built in ND.
@@ArthurRnot optical viewfinder but you have leaf shutter with any RX1
Im currently using the a6700 with creative styles and the ttartisan 27mm 2.8 compact lens to take around town.
My version of this is my a5100 with the TTArtisan 25/f2 manual focus lens. With the lens at infinity and at 5.6 or better, i can shoot from the waist with the flip screen and easily seen focus peaking confirmation and be very discreet. If I want separation i can take it to f2 and have a pleasing blown out background. The zoom lever in front of the shutter button uses clear image zoom to make any prime enjoy a short throw 2x zoom.
With any of my auto focus lenses the screen has touch focus which is again, more discreet than an evf for on the street.
It was released in August 2014 after the a6000 and shares the same focus system with 179 focus points.
I have the 16/2.8 which is not as good as your 20/2.8. I will eventually find a 20/2.8 at a reasonable price to add auto focus to this compact package.
The creative style and picture effect settings aren't fuji, but can add some interesting dimension of your play with it some.
Good video!
I had this setup for about year and half and I sold almost all of my other lenes now.
What I need is a6700 for ibis it's needed for video 😩 currently I have a6400
I can put it in cargo pocket with no issues 😁👍
Also pair it K&F magnatic lens cap 🫡
There was a smaller equivalent to A6000, A5100 which I happen to still have around :) And default pankake lens for portability for me, 16-50. Normally, I use 18-105 F4 which is twice the size of camera, but way sharper.
That lens is my daily driver... No, I don't have a pocket big enough! (used on both ZV-E10 & A6700, love it!)
Supercool idea.
If you marry that lens with a Nex7 body you will get an even more pocketable camera. Still a very good street camera after all these years. Thanks for sharing.
And also my A6400 and a 16-70mm Sony Zeiss lens is still giving me great service.
I bought a used Sony RX1R. It is cheaper, smaller, cooler and comparable (if not better) in image quality to the Fujifilm X100 VI :)
When Sony went to compete with the Lecias ! Ahh the good old days of innovation
great camera but even more expensive than the Fujis
@@DDHDTVI bought it for €800 in good condition! Of course you can get better picture quality for less money, but not in this size.
Personally, my "walkaround" combo is an Sonny A6000 with TTartisan 27mm f2.8. Great option at soft price.
I like the new A7Cii/A7CR bodies, especially the CR. It can do high res and aps-c. It is compact, feels good in the hand with its excellent grip. As for favorite lenses to take out, that really depends on where I am going. I will switch between the new tiny Sony 24mm and the 40mm. Zoom I use is the 20-70mm f4. Great combo. At airshows, I will carry a long tele zoom. So, depends on the situation.
Just my 2 cents, I have the ZVe10 and the a6700 and the latter has so much flexibility in the creative styles menu that it truly is fun to create film like pictures.
What lens do you put in your A6700 and ZV10? Having the view finder and ergonomics of the A6700 isn't it hard going back to the ZV10?
I love how he slapped the Viltrox 28mm 4.5 on there at the end. Now I want to know his thoughts on that combo 🤯
good evening Arthur !
My near-poket solution for street is A5100 & Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm f/1.8
Not a great camera but a great lens. Greetings from Italy
You should do a video about the Sony Creative Styles, Picture Profiles and Film Simulations, which is a big reason on why some people choose Fujifilm in the first place. There isnt a lot of content on that
For my compact street style, I love 40mm, I usually combine my a7C with VIltrox 20mm f2.8 and Sony 40mm f2.5. Too bad Sony aren't providing 20mm equivalent of that 40mm lens.
Doing the same for quite some time, but with the (even older) SEL-16F28 😂
I built a Sony small setup for daily carry that's even smaller but in the same spirit: A5100 with the TTArtisan 27mm AF. Truly pocketable and light!
The poor man’s Ricoh GR3x 😊 I did the same and enjoy it a lot
@marcuswend7704
Hey hey hey that is super expensive
Yet it is quite small and strong
Good job 👏
My walk around, a6000 with kit 16-50
I used this very setup to shoot a morning market in china, works like a charm and felt like a ninja - unnoticed by the locals
I have the 20mm SEL and yes, it's not perfect but it makes for a fine compact setup.
It's not fair. The A6000 focuses better than the X100VI.
Hi Arthur I had the same Idea but I used zev10 with optic wiewfinder tt artisan for GR III.
I have this setup as well as a lumix gx80 with a 20mm f1.7 as my edc. Both very small.
I still use the a6000 daily but I shoot only raw so in post I can do what I want
In case of Fujifilm, those awesome film simulations can be applied in post to raw files. It's quite a thing, loving it
Nice video! One thing this Sony misses one of the Fuji X100 series best features; A leaf shutter!, with high speed flash possibilities. Other overlooked. But with the build in ND filter of an X100 you can use f2.0 in bright sunlight and use that tiny flash for fill-in light.
Very true!
This is my go to set up for almost a decade. I upgraded to the a6600 and have a bunch of bigger sharper lenses, but I still use the a6000 and the 20mm 2.8 the most (and the wide angle adaptor) even though the Internet dismissed these all years ago.
Honestly I’d LOVE a small Sony point and shoot (similar to the RX100), but with Fuji film recipes. Truly a dream every day camera as a companion to my A7C.
You said @7:13 that newer sony Alpha camera bodies have Creative Styles, implying that the a6000 doesnt have. But I use Creative stules all the time on my a6000! Did you miss it or what did you mean by it?
Fuji X-E4 entered the chat
I got one too. It's great, but the Sonys smoke it in AF.
Hey Arthur great video. My suggestion is that for a budget option swap the lens out for a TTArtisan 25mm F2 👍
This setup is perfect for me, the only downside is the SEL20F28 costing 300~350 i think it's a crazy price for a pancake lens like this, and I really hate there is not another alternative this size with AF
I picked it up used for $200, which is great value, if you can find it.
I really want a small pancake lens for my a6700, currently I only have the tamron 17-70mm f2.8. Its a great lens, but a small lens would be nice when just shooting for fun.
The A5100 is even lighter and slimmer... same sensor, one of the first with Sony's phase detect autofocus... no viewfinder or hotshoe though, but very pocketable!
I've had several Fujis in the past. If they could simplify/rationalize their menus and sort out their seeming-eternal "supply chain" issues, I'd reconsider them. The thing that hooked me in with them was how they could sometimes just nail an image, with great tone gradation, light fall off, etc. Other times, like with landscapes, I'd usually prefer what my Canon cameras could deliver.
Hmmm very good camera 🔥
I've been shooting a Canon EOS M with the kit lens and the 22mm. I like both for different reasons but the 22mm is on more than the kit lens. The M is slow, but I really love the photos I get from it. I shoot my old Canon EOS 40d if I want a little quicker experience, I also have many film cameras that I picked up cheap or free when they were being dumped for digital. I have a friend who had a 6000 and now has a 6700, though I seldom see him carrying either. He carried a G7 quite a lot for a while.
Nice! I ordered the 7artisans 25mm f/1.8 to try on a Sony nex-6 that never gets used
Qualited video 😍
Do you know how to setting picture profile?
It would be great if you share how to get the nice jpg images with sony pp setting
I have a7cii and zv e10, but the jpg of e10 is so disappointing 😞
The pancake lens is cool
I bought a Fuji X100VI thinking autofocus would be much improved and I was wrong. I would rather grab by Sony A7RV with reliable autofocus. I'm sure I'll be selling the Fuji and getting a Sony A7C II.
what about a7cii with the brightin star 28/f2.8 or the newest Viltrox 28/f4?
I wish Sony would revive the RX1 and not make it obscenely expensive at the same time. Alas, economies of scale and existing product lines don't help
This. 100%, we’ve been asking for it for 5+ years.
fixed lens FF would be wild again,, but its probably replaced by the A7C line now
That lens is not bad at all given the age! How does it perform with people/skin tones?
How about using the TTArtisan 27/2.8 for the lens? I use that for small size on my A6700 and the Viltrox 27/1.2. Pro for GM like lens quality when I can deal with a heavier combo. Thank you and take care
I use that fantastic lens with a tiny a5100 for a perfect pocket EDC combo. Great recommendation!
I picked up an a6000 a while back. I busted out laughing the AF was so fast!
mine is a NEX6 with the TTartisans 27mm 2.8 AF lens (40mm full frame). Its a very nice and literally pocketable setup though the battery life and autofocus isnt great
Arthur; There is a new Viltrox 28mm pancake for Sony Full frame, for 7c looks really good,. You should check that iin your channel
Video coming in a few days!
Great idea! Think I’ll try my a6500 with the Sigma DN 19mm f2.8 art. The lens is a bit wider but it’s using what I have.
Great video,I will be using my sony a6600+16mm f2.8 for street photography
Nice setup but no camera with interchangeable lens can replace a X100# with the leaf shutter and full speed sync !
7:19 the A6000 has creative styles as well 🤷♂️.
But it's not too customisable. That max u can do is change sharpness, saturation and contrast.
@@BaldRavenHaired true but he made it sound like the A6000 doesn’t have it.
@@Htbaa it was mistake from his side , he was one of few people who intensively squeeze the life daylights out of that a6000!
I had a x100v daily alongside my A7 but sold the x100 for a6600 with a 24mm 2.8mm.. and occasionally use a telephoto. But the 24mm is chunkier and the images dont feel inspired. So it often stays at home.
Ive been on the benvh about selling the a6600 and 24mm but not might look at rhe smaller lenses youve suggested first
Hmmm.. . Now I'm thinking maybe that $250 A6000 I saw at the camera store might not be a bad buy after all. I could get the new Viltrox 28mm and have a cheap X100 type camera like you have here. For a project like this I think the a6000 fits the bill perfectly fine as for street photography, it's more so about capturing a moment than it is about absolute sharpness, or high color accuracy or even ISO noise to an extent although the a6000 does do quite well even today despite it's age in that sense. But the biggest important thing is having a camera with you, and a small camera like the a6000 or even the a5100/a5000 are ideal for this (better than some of the newer Sony's which are a bit thicker, especially the ones with IBIS).
For me, when doing street, I've been using my Nikon Zf and 40mm lens, although that combo is a bit bigger than I would like, so I'm going to probably look for something cheaper and smaller to act as my street camera and the a6000 sounds like a good choice especially a used one (or the a5100 although I dislike the omission of the EVF as I really find them useful).
The one thing I really think would help would be Sony color profiles that rival the ones in a x100 line.
The Samyang 35 f2.8 and the A7C. Much better focusing and significantly better image quality.
i believe you are not really well informed about the creative styles 7:14 because even the early nex camera's have this built in (nex 5, nex 5t, nex 6) (if i believe it correctly also on the a-mount system it was a thing) so you can actually have more control that you descibed.
I love this Sony 20mm f2.8. Sold mine just to be able to afford another lens but kind of regret it now.
Good. Now I want a Sony, too. Thanks! 😤
What about the ttartisan 27mm
I'm waiting for the new Samyang lenses. the one where you exchange the lens element alone.
slap glimmerglass filter on top and together with thr pop flash of the a6000 you almost got a disposable camera look.
Still waiting for ANY company to make a good 35mm equivalent AF lens for Sony. 😢
But the a6000 has creative styles? Just got mine and use it all the time. Maybe you need a firmware update?
I remember Arthur saying this lens was "garbage", and the 16mm close cousin, was still garbage but a little less garbage. Is it OK now?
The reason is because you were paying $400 for a pancake lens that was softer than the $100 kit lens. Now, when you can pick up one of these for $200 and because street photography doesn’t require optical perfection, and the small size is important, it is “OK” for this purpose.
@@ArthurR I gottcha. Nothing has changed about the performance of the lens, (i.e firmware update, enhanced model), you’re now judging it based on the available price and considering it for a specific application (street). Some (me) would say it is a “fun sized” lens, at a “fun sized” used price, that does have a characteristic look, and can fit the bill for someone not expecting tip of the top technical acuity. I will even contend outside of a street photographer, some like the soft look the lens returns and will find it works for them.
mine combo si Fuji xt-30 with 27mm 2.8 pancake 🎉
Viltrox’s new AF 28mm F4.5 will fit nicely, too.
I thought you put an oreo on the camera at the end lmao
Viltrox 28 f4.5
Fuji XE4 (second hand) + 35mm F2 / 18 mm F2 Fuji.
I have an A6000 and a ZV-E10.
I don't like the colors I get with the A6000. Even after editing the raw file, i can't make it make as good as the ZV-E10.
Nikon CoolPix S9700 with a 4.5-135 mm zoom
Why the 6000? Not the 6300, 6400, 6500, 6600, or optimal 6700????
Because it’s easier to get one than others i think.
Price probably. He wants the cheapest and smallest
Only if Sony could update that lens! Its a real shame how 80% of apsc lenses haven't had an update since release ! The 16f2.8 , 20 f2.8, 35 f1.8 , 50 f1.8 10-18 f4 pz and 18-105 f4 pz are in dire need of an update and price drop !
The 55 f1.8 is a full frame lens and no sir! I hope Sony never updates it. It has a special character and unique look.
@@Kunal0915 my bad , I meant the 50 f1 8 oss and 50 f1.8 ff . The zeiss are wonderful and definition of good lens designs . But they are definitely need a af update! Alas I believe non of zeiss lenses are in production.
I'd just pick up the Canon m6ii and 22 pancake.
closer to a X100v instead
a6000 it not just more affordable, it is THE afordable apsc body to get when starting... even m50 mk I and so on are more expensive, and not even better
2020 ahh video
I made this with a combo A6500 + TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 and some custom on Creative Style: th-cam.com/video/iSW8bhkoxYE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MkB1y26kmM_bt2f5
There are many ultra-low-cost imitation X100 cameras available. Unfortunately they're all crap designed to part suckers from their money with exaggerated specs.
Hi Arthur, Sony x100iv do not exist.
Did you watch the video lol?
Haha! watch the video first.
I'm waiting for the new Samyang lenses. the one where you exchange the lens element alone.
