That pub had a proper bad rep but as a Benwell lad myself, may not be true... I know the Green Tree up Old Benwell was a rough hole too. Remember being on a YTS years ago and going on a night out there and first thing I saw was the Bouncer whacking someone's head off a door???

Scotwood had a well earned reputation for being a anti social hotspot and high crime area in the 80s and 90s . There is definately a lot of decent people living there but their voices were not heard over the chavs and the criminals ..I have heard it is now being flooded with migrants and refugees (I don't know if this is true maybe someone who lives in Scotswood can clear that up ? ) . I hope the real residents of Scotwood get what they deserve in redevelopment a decent place to live with decent facilities ...and boy that view across the river would cost a fortune to have anywhere else .

Take a look at Benwell, exactly the same... Or take a walk from the old Bowling Alley on the West road down Stanhope street and you would think you have been time warped to a third world country where none of the inhabitants speak English.

@@neilt7145 I used to live in Westgate road around corner from the bowling alley it was full of student types and people like me looking to reestablish links with Newcastle after working away (late 90s this was ) bars were full of old time residents who'd lived in the west end for years . I have not been back there for 20 + years now , so you're saying it's an immigrant ghetto ? oh dear that means in years to come it will be a no go area for british born people due to criminality , violence and religious differences "their area " as many ghetto immigrants say ...I've seen it in bradford , luton , many areas of London etc etc .

Shitehole... I'm a Benwell lad and every time I pass though there I thing what happened. Was never a wealthy area but is a proper shit hole now....

One thing I find strange is why people from the area call it 'Scotchwood' - why do they say that? I grew up there - well until I was 10 - and the place was horrible. In the 70s it was crime-ridden and an awful environment for kids to grow up in.

Britain a nation that could not organise a Brothel on a construction site , if they can't organise a housing estate , how can they possibly could do anything , they don't.
