About to attempt this myself. I see the Mercedes WIS guidance document says, about refilling the air bags, "The wheels must not be in contact with the ground during the filling. Since the air suspension bellows in the spring element is destroyed when filling in deflected condition." Which sounds to me like its lost something in translation, but I do wonder if there's a real point there nonetheless?
Well if you have a message on the dash of malfunction or something in that area, after replacing the shock you will need to clear that message in order for the car go back and start pump air again, but as far as the shock replacing just do it like I didn't and when refilling the bag with air just lift the car a bit so that the weight its not on the bag.
for sure the lower control arm to strut bushing is already busted by now, why? because you don't tighten those bolts when the suspension is hanging in the air. It should be done with the load on or with the exact ride height. Ride height means when the tire (suspension) is level to the ground with the load of the car. He could just jack up the lower control arm until the suspension compresses (load heigh/ride height) and then tighten the bolt.
Sure you may be right , but I can tell you this on my personal gl450 I have done the complete suspension and it has been 3 year at least and no problems with any bushings ...

Hello there is only two types of shocks for them and that depending if it's a gl450 or gl550 this is the same process for the years 07-12 after that is a different strut/bag but the process to replace its the same. The job was about 2hr at the most , brand the customer got it from online so I'm saying he probably paid $1-200 for it.
Well it depends on your mechanic lol an oem strut from the dealership itself could be around $700 but online about $200 and labor from your mechanic depends on his rate but I wanna say if he has done this before should be a walk in the park ill say $4-600 part and labor should be ok
Hello I really can't say, the customer got it online and I installed it for him, but now he did a spring conversion kit on it and took all of the air ride off.
@borys1960 yes it you starting to have problems with it , I'll say do so cus it's only the beginning and the Chinese airbags it's a hit an miss on the good ones.
What brand strut? How much was it?
How long you figure hlwhole job.
Was it auto dampening or without?
Customer purchase the unit, job was probably about 1-2hr but again I have done a few of this.
Did you have to program anything for the sensors ? Will lights go on the dashboard when you change it ? I have aftermarket struts
If you got the malfunction display you will need to reset that all not programming needed

This are 22" they have 285 45 22 on them but ill say 40 will be best for this suv
